Summary:

Eleanor has a younger daughter, this is Emma’s life throughout her residency.

Work Text:

Growing up Emma O’Hara never thought she would get married to someone who worshipped the grounds she walked on, When Emma met Ike Prentiss, her whole world turned upside down when he stepped foot into the ER at All Saints Hospital. When both Ike and Emma started dating, they knew that the relationship was deep, intense, and very serious from the very start. Both doctors kept their relationship private from the start and kept it professional while working together. The only two people who knew about this relationship before they went public were Jackie Payton, Emma’s godmother, and her mother Eleanor O’Hara. Ike was there for nearly everything that happened with Emma, and vice versa for Emma with Ike. When Emma was stabbed by a psychotic patient Ike was there stitching the young doctor up, while Eleanor stood by Emma pleading for the young heiress to have the will to live. When Emma woke up weeks later Ike was there with flowers and filled the woman in on everything she missed, Eleanor stood by the door eavesdropping on the two with a smile on the older woman’s face. Over the next eight months, Ike showered Emma with love, flowers, generous gifts, and very romantic dates. Their first official date was at a fancy Italian restaurant followed by going to a nightclub and dancing the night away, Emma came home drunk on how much she loved this man that called her honey.
Eleanor had Ike begging on his knees before the older woman for months asking for Emma’s hand in marriage before Eleanor finally gave her blessing. Eleanor’s decision didn’t come lightly at all, she constantly put Emma’s boyfriend through trials while giving him absurd excuses as to why Eleanor said no to their union. The decision was quickly made when Eleanor witnessed Ike knocking Emma out of the way from a hostage situation, between Emma’s patient and a handgun pointed directly in Emma’s face. “If you ever hurt my daughter Ike, you and I both know that I can kill you and make it look like a complete accident,” Eleanor stated in a whisper. “While you proved yourself otherwise today by risking your life for my little girl, I believe you have my blessing Ike,” Eleanor said then kissed Ike’s cheek before wandering to Emma to make sure she was okay. Out of all the men and women Emma brought home throughout the years, Eleanor loved Ike and the way he treated the older woman’s only daughter. The proposal was utterly beautiful as well as very well thought out, Ike proposed on the hospital’s rooftop that he lined with rose petals, flowers, and candles. Emma immediately said yes to Ike, accepting the beautiful 24-karat gold diamond ring, and snogged Ike into early next week forgetting about Eleanor and half of the staff that was cheering for the two. Eleanor cried while she hugged Emma, “Oh EmEm, my how you have grown into a beautiful young woman. I am so proud of you. You are slipping through my fingers, my love.” Eleanor stated while hugging Emma.
Emma bounced her right leg up and down nervously beside her mother as they sat in the back of their town car that took them to a very high-end expensive bridal shop. “Emma, will you stop bouncing your leg, it’s driving me, mad love.” The older woman stated before putting a hand on her daughter’s leg, rubbing soothing circles on the young woman’s leg. “Sorry, mum, I didn’t kip very much,” Emma admitted while laying her head on Eleanor’s shoulder, smiling Eleanor stroked her daughter’s long dark brown lovingly trying to soak up all of the extra cuddles. “Oh, believe me, I do know how nervous you are love. I was once married to your father remember?” responded Eleanor. The young bride nodded while not replying to her mother, watching all of the high-end shops pass by and the car pulls to a stop outside of Kleinfeld’s bridal company. Roy the O’Hara women’s driver, stepped out of the expensive BMW and opened the door for the two women. Emma stepped shakily out of the town car after her beloved mother and instantly grabbed Eleanor’s hand tightly, looking very nervously excited. Eleanor swallowed thickly trying to contain her emotions and quickly wiped away the tears threatening to fall; looking over at the sudden movement Emma looked at her mother directly in the face. “Oh God, don’t go crying now. I haven’t even walked down the aisle yet, and you’re a sobbing mess.” Emma said thickly while trying to contain her own emotions, chuckling while wiping her tears Eleanor scoffed, “Well look who’s being Cheeky, you are on the verge of crying too.” Giggling Emma started walking forward to Kleinfeld’s shop door with Eleanor, both women were greeted by Randy Fenoli a bridal consultant who was conducting Emma’s appointment for the day. After several hours with Randy going through what seemed like hundreds of dresses, none of the wedding gowns tickled Emma’s fancy. Sighing frustrated Emma sat down in defeat, “Why does this have to be so fucking stressful and complicated mum?” complained Emma feeling very defeated that she wouldn’t find a dress that would make Ike drool over her even more than he already does. “Now Emma, we still have one more dress to try from Pnina Tornai’s Love collection, it’ll fit your body like an absolute glove. It’ll make Ike lust for you even more than he does girly, I’ll be right back girly.” Randy stated before buzzing off to collect the dress. A few minutes later went by music was turned on by Randy, and Emma came out with the most beautiful wedding dress Eleanor had ever seen. The dress in question was a beautiful sleeveless plunging V-Neckline lace sheath white wedding dress, with beautiful designs on it. When the next song switched over to the mother-and-daughter duo’s favorite song ABBA’s ‘Slipping through my fingers.’ came on, Eleanor held Emma close to her like the older woman did when Emma was a baby. As the two women looked at Emma’s wedding dress, soft singing from Eleanor O’Hara could be heard as the older woman held her youngest and only child one last time before losing Emma to Ike’s embrace. “I will always love you my Emma Lily,” Eleanor whispers to her daughter, smiling Emma hugged her mom tightly. “ I love you too Mommy.” Emma said lovingly.
The End.
