Work Text:

Mark woke up groggily as the hatchet opened, he fumbled from his pod.

Good Morning, Head Engineer.” The computer said in its usual monotone voice.

Mark grumbled a quick good morning to the computer and went on with his morning. He walked out of the room towards the hallway to Gunter’s room to greet him.

“Hey, Gunter.”

Gunter leaned against the doorframe and it always made Mark giddy inside whenever he did that.

“Hey, darling.”

“You always look so handsome.” Mark sighs.

“So do you.” Gunther teased and walked towards Mark and grabs his hand to kiss it.

“Why are you such a flirt and why do I love it?” Mark responds with a smile.

Gunther asserted, “Because, I like seeing you flustered and also because it’s easy.”

“Well, I’m not flustered right now.” Mark says rolling his eyes.

“Okay then, what’s on your cheeks?” Gunther questioned with a raised eyebrow.

“Fuck you.” Mark cursed turning his head sideways.

“Love you too.” Gunther replied.

They both leaned in for a kiss for a quick second, but suddenly Celci bursted through the door. Mark and Gunther both pulled away in a panic.

“Ew! Oh gosh—um can you love birds make out later? I need Mark at the Cryo. Now. Thanks—“ Celci said in disgust, covering her eyes and walked away quickly out of the room.

Mark looked over out the room and back at Gunther, pouting, “Ugh,” he whines in annoyance, “Sorry Gunther, I have to go.”

“See you later?” Mark questioned.

“Of course, also when you come back I have a surprise for you, meet me during lunch?” Gunther said with a grin.

“Okay!” Mark chimed giving him a quick kiss on the mouth.

Mark was looking for Gunther during lunch break as he accidentally stumbled across Mack.

“Hey! Watch where you’re going.” Mack snapped.

“Sorry Mack, I’m kind of looking for someone do you know where Gunther—?”

“I don’t know and don’t care.” Mack scoffed as he walked off.

“What a jerk.” Mark mumbled, gritting his teeth as he fixed his collar on his uniform. Mark continued to walk through the hallway to find Gunther.

Mark suddenly saw a figure from across the hallway walk towards Mark, he was holding a small brown teddy bear, a box of heart chocolates and tulips in plastic.

Wait, that’s Mark’s favorite flower…

Wait is that—?

“Gunther?” Mark said in surprise as the figure stopped in front of him as he saw Gunther pop his head out to the side with a grin.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, babe!” Gunther exclaimed.

Mark looked at him in surprise. Oh, today is Valentine’s Day, he completely forgot. And Gunther got him gifts.

Mark kept looking at Gunther as Gunther was growing confused. Mark felt his eyes glisten with tears threatening to fall and Gunther’s eyes widen in concern.

“Baby? Are you okay?” Gunther asked.

Mark nodded, staring at him with a loving smile so big that it seemed impossible for him to frown. His mouth quivering as he finally let a few tears fall.

“Y-Yeah, sorry I-I just—“ Mark started to speak, but was quickly cut off when he started to sob.

Gunther gently put the stuff down to comfort his partner by hugging him as he cried, not caring about the stuff anymore and caring about who is right in front of him.

“Mark, it’s okay. I’m sorry, did I upset you?” Gunther reassured him as he stroked Mark’s hair.

“No no— you could never upset me.” Mark sniffled with tear streaks on his face from crying. “It’s just Im so happy… nobody ever did this to me before and now I feel awful that I didn’t get you nothing, oh fuck I didn’t even get you—“

“Sh. Don’t talk.” Gunther assured, interrupting him, “I just wanted to get you something because I care about you and I felt like I should get you something. I don’t need anything, I already have the whole world in my arms. That’s all I need.”

Mark looked up at him and laughed, “Oh okay, you flirt, that’s the most cheesiest thing I’ve ever heard from you.”

“Hey it’s true! Besides you love how cheesy I am.” Gunther proclaimed with a smirk and pulled him into another tight hug with his chin resting on his head.

Mark leaned into his partner and put his head on his chest. His eyes closing feeling relaxed as he smiled so wide.

“Yes, I guess I do love it. Like how I love you.” Mark admitted.

They both gazed at each other with love filled eyes, before finally sharing a kiss without being interrupted this time.
