Work Text:
A week of tension finally snapped. It was Valentine's Day and every student woke up excited and ready to ask that special someone to be theirs. Except for Wednesday Friday Addams. She woke up with her signature uncaring expression, maybe a hint of annoyance. If only for having the knowledge of what day it was.
She gracefully got out of bed and got ready for the day. Showing then putting on her regular black school uniform before going out. Though the students were given a pass to wear something other than the standard uniform, the raven stuck to repetition. By the time she was out in the halls, most of the student body had congregated at the Quad.
Stuffed bears of varying sizes and colors were exchanged along with vivid red and pink balloons. Blushing faces, giggles, and laughter only caused the seer to grimace. It's not that she hated the romantic environment, she was practically immune to it thanks to he mother and father. But, the obvious ploy of capitalistic companies irked the dark girl.
What annoyed her more was that a few students even dared to approach her. Each held a gift of some kind, and each scared off with a menacing scowl. However, Xavier Thorpe would not be as easily dissuaded.
"Hey, Wednesday." He beamed happily towards the seer as he a
"Xavier."
The tall boy shifted from right to left before pulling out a bouquet of red roses. Wednesday was thankful that the roses were a deep blood red, but she still took a step away from the colorful display.
"So, I was wondering if you would be my valentine." The raven could see that Xavier was clearly nervous.
"Xavier, I commend you for your bravery, however foolish and misplaced it was," she gave the boy no leniency as she continued, "but no. The thought of being your anything causes my skin to crawl and burn. And not in the fun way."
"But, we're friends..." His smile fell along with the roses that now hung at his side.
"We are acquaintances at worst, Thorpe. And the fact that you thought I would even celebrate this awful day by my own free will makes me believe you pick up on social ques worse than I."
Without another word, Wednesday walked past the sullen artist to her next class.
Her first class came and went. Very uneventful. The Sam happened with her second and third class. By the forth class, however, she was presented with a box of black licorice from Bianca.
"As a thanks for not holding back during practice," was all she said before sitting down.
This gift, Wednesday decided, was the perfect balance of appreciation and professionalism. Bianca expected nothing in return and kept the talk short.
Wednesday saved the licorice for later.
In the raven's next class was Yoko, who she barely spoke to, yet the vampire decided to get her a gift anyway.
"Enid means a lot to me, so I would appreciate it if she stays living," it was more of an offering than anything, but dark chocolate was always her favorite.
The seer looked down at the gift then to the vampire, then she pulled the open box to her chest. This garnered a polite "thank you" before the vampire dashed off. Wednesday could hear words of praise and affection behind her, and when she turned around she saw the vampire being cuddled by a siren.
"See that wasn't so hard. You did so good, darling."
"She's so scary, Divi..."
Eugene was the next brave soul to approach the goth. It was in the hall as Wednesday was walking to her dorm room.
"Wednesday! Hold up!" The young bee keeper yelled after her and was panting by the time he caught up.
"Hello, Eugene. If you are here to give me a gift, I expect you to know that I have nothing to give in return."
"Oh, yeah that's fine. It's more from the bees than myself. But I bought the chocolate." His braces twinkled almost as brightly as his smile.
Wednesday inspected the jar of honey and was pleased to see a square of honey comb inside as well. The chocolate was molded into a honey comb pattern and she could see a bit of golden nectar dripping from a crack.
"Sorry if it's a bit crushed, I may have dropped it." A light nervous chuckle found the raven's ears.
"It's fine, Eugene. I'll have it later with some tea."
This made the boy smile wider before he gave a curt nod and bounded away. She saw him reaching into his bag and pulling out a similar gift to another student. She didn't mind that she had a similar gift, as the bee keeper was quite proud of his bees and would share their work with anyone. In that sense, he reminded Wednesday of ger father, Gomez.
After such a sappy, and jovial day Wednesday needed a nap. But sadly the onslaught of gifts would only get worse once she entered her dorm room. A significant pile of boxes and letters sat on her desk. She first scanned the room for any intruders, but only saw her roommate, Enid.
The blond was sifting through her own pile of letters as she looked up to see Wednesday.
"Oh hey, Weds! I got the mail and it looks like you got some secret admirers." The lilt in her tone suggested teasing and it made Wednesday even more annoyed.
"They were wise to stay anonymous, as I will shove these letters down their throats when I find them." Wednesday said with a small grimace as she held one bright pink letter by the corner.
"Oh, come on, Weds. It's free chocolate and presents." Enid replied as she got up from her bed.
The raven was acutely aware of Enid moving to her desk then over to Wednesday with a skip in her step. From behind, the werewolf slowly moved a dark box into Wednesday’s line of sight. It was very minimalist with a little tag that said "Happy Valentine's Day, roomie 🖤".
"What is this?"
"It's your Valentine's Day gift, silly. I wanted to give to you privately." The blond chirped happily, holding the velvety black box out to the goth.
"I hope you know I didn't prepare any gifts for today." She replied, taking the box and looking it over some more.
"I figured. I never saw you buying or making any gifts but I still wanted to get you something. I wouldn't want you to feel left out."
Enid rolled back and forth on her heels, waiting as patient as she could to see Wednesday’s reaction. With a soft sigh, Wednesday opened the box, and to say she was underwhelmed would be... appropriate.
"It's chocolate." The raven looked up to the taller girl with a raised brow.
"Yup! Try it!" Enid said excitedly.
"Enid, I doubt I would like sugary sweet chocolate, even if-"
"Please, Willa?"
Seeing those big puppy eyes brought out a deeper sigh from the seer. Relenting at the blonds behest, Wednesday took out a small slatelike piece of chocolate. She was glad that it was flat instead of heart shaped, resembling peanut brittle more than chocolate. She took a bite and froze.
The dark girl expected something sickeningly sweet but was surprised to taste a bitter bite mixed with a natural berry sweet. It was distinctly dark chocolate with a hint of fruit. She only allowed a hum to escape her throat.
"Where did you get this, I would like to aquire more."
"Oh, I made it. I actually had to use the culinary class, so I wouldn't have to worry about you seeing it early. And it was really hard. I'm not a dark chocolate type of person, so I'm glad I asked if you liked anything sweet. That and I had no experience cooking chocolate beforehand-" the rest of the blonds rambling fell of deaf ears.
Wednesday remembered Enid asking what her favorite candy was months beforehand. And if she liked anything sweet just after New Year's Day. The werewolf had put time and effort into making this gift. Then the guilt set in, and the raven's jaw set tightly. Enid had thought about what Wednesday would like best and passed with flying colors.
Wednesday set the box gently on her desk and cutting the ramble short.
"Thank you, you didn't have to."
"Oh, it's okay. I wanted to." Enid only waved her off before turning around and walking back to her bed.
"Name your price. It would be unfair to you if you didn't get something in return." The raven stated as she followed.
"Seriously, Weds. It's fine. I don-"
"I insist."
The blond paused before looking away to think. Then a playful smile curled her lips.
"Well, if you insist. A kiss wouldn't be too much, would it?" The tone was playful and teasing, clearly she was trying to dissuade the raven from any form of payment.
Wednesday only hesitated for a moment, taken aback by the request. Well, she said name your price and Enid had.
"Haha, see. You don't have t-"
"No, I suppose it wouldn't be too much."
Enid could barely register what was happening before the shorter girl pulled her down into her lips. At first Enid squeaked in surprise, but as the bittersweet taste of the chocolate hit her lips she melted. Warm hands found dark fabric as Enid pulled the raven closer. Yet, as soon as lips met, they broke apart.
"There, now I would very much appreciate that recipe for the chocolate." Wednesday said with he back turned to the blushing blond.
"Y-yeah... uh just... l-lemme see where... I put..." Enid struggled to move, trying to get her arms to respond the way she wanted.
Unbeknownst to her, across the room, Wednesday struggled to find a blank sheet of paper. A light dusting of red on the tips of her ears.
