A new Dawn

Summary:

"It wished it could save her from the pain the returning memories caused her. But it also knew that without this pain she would never live for herself. That she would just bounce between tasks given by others. He knew the future this pain would bring, and it was bright."

She used to be Dawn, until the distortion separated her from Dawn. She used to be Akari, until her memories returned. She was a being without purpose. She was told to make her own path. But she is not alone, she has a talented conductor to guide her.

Chapter Text

Dawn Akari she was lost. Not in the literal sense, she knew exactly where she was. She was lost in a spiritual sense. Her purpose was fulfilled, was fulfilled even the correct word. Exhausted her purpose? Ran dry? Depleted? She decided to shelve that topic for the moment and returned to the primary issue. She had a purpose, to collect all pokemon, she had done so. She met with the final pokemon she needed data on. It was strangely fitting, the last pokemon she needed to complete her quest was the one that gave it to her. It was one of the few clear memories she had in the static and haze that filled her mind.

It looked upon her with proud grief. Pride that its chosen had succeeded her task. Grief that now with her quest fulfilled the memories of her time in the distortion, the nature of her existence would return and the pain it would bring.

Her eyes darted from point to point as she observed the field lands. This was her home but not. This was home to Akari the sky faller. In the same way that Twinleaf was home to Dawn the champion. She was both of these people and neither of them. As such both and neither place was her home. Sent here for a purpose and the purpose left taking any sense of belonging she felt with it.

It wished it could save her from the pain the returning memories caused her. But it also knew that without this pain she would never live for herself. That she would just bounce between tasks given by others. He knew the future this pain would bring, and it was bright.

She had no path before her, so she asked for one. She prayed to the being that had given her her previous path and begged for a new one. And a voice entered her mind.

I cannot give you a path.

She darkened at the voice’s words. Just when she thought she could not sink any lower her last lifeline abandoned her.

“Why?” asked a watery voice.

A path given by me would not give you what you seek. You view your existence as not your own. You must carve your own path if you seek to justify your place in this world. I want nothing more than to ease your pain child but there are some things even I cannot change.

She stood and looked towards the stars. They reminded her of the distortion. She supposed that if she had a home it would be there, not that she was eager to return. That was the root of the problem she supposed. She didn’t want to stay, but she had nowhere to go. She took one step, then another and another after that.

She wandered for days on end, only stopping to feed her Pokemon. Never herself oddly enough, perhaps it was an effect of the distortion. She remembered Dawn needing to eat and sleep, and Akari did the same but she suspected Akari didn’t have to. She continued to wander and her Pokemon left one by one returning to the wild or Jubilife. She didn’t blame them, they probably realized she wasn’t Akari anymore. She felt a tugging on her arm it was Typhlosion, she wasn’t quite sure why it had remained while the others left. Perhaps it remembered her from before she was Akari when she had first arrived here without a name or a history.

A quiet bark brought her attention back to the present. Typhlosion was beckoning her to rest on the snowy ground. She had just now realized she was in the highlands. She doesn’t know what caused her to heed the Pokemon's call but she laid down on the snow using Typhlosion as a pillow the flames protecting her from the bitter cold. She was tired so very tired, she closed her eyes hoping that when they opened again she would find answers.
