Chapter Text
October 31, 1997
Poseidon made sure he was quiet as he slipped into the small Manhattan apartment. He dared not make a sound, a peep that would alert his younger brother of his presence. He couldn’t let that paranoid bastard find out where he was.
And who he was visiting.
The room he appeared into was a small one, with white walls that were covered in pictures of different sea creatures. The major colors were blue, aquamarine, purple, and pink. The god of the seas barely paid the room that bore homage to his realm a look, staring intently as the small white crib in the center of the far wall.
He walked the few treacherous steps closer till he was able to see into the crib, able to see the small infant that was wrapped in a pretty mermaid scale patterned blanket. His breath caught as he took in pale skin, a small tuff of dark brown hair, and the sleeping face of his first ever mortal daughter.
She was so lovely, so tiny and innocent.
And very alert to her surroundings apparently. Slowly, she blinked open her lids to stare at him with her pretty cerulean eyes, the same color as the Caribbean Sea. Poseidon was captivated as he met her gaze, seeing every asset of his seas reflected in them. He only looked away when he realized she was lifting her arms towards him.
Caught on instinct, he reached down and lifted her out of the crib, cradling her tiny form in his arms. His bulk practically swallowed her. He easily held her in the crook of one arm as he slid a finger down her soft cheek. She gripped it strongly, shocking him at the strength.
A large smile stretched across his face as tears came to his eyes. “Hey baby, I’m your daddy.”
She smiled a toothless grin and pulled harder on his finger. A gasp left his lips at her cuteness. “I wish I knew your name.” He murmured.
“Persephone.” He turned to see Sally Jackson standing in the doorway to the rest of the apartment. “Her name is Persephone Alessandra Jackson.”
It was fitting, but it was missing an important part. He knew it wasn’t safe, but he wanted her to have a piece of his side of her heritage. “Can you add a second middle name? I want her to have a piece of her Atlantean heritage. It’s part of her and I want her name to have that part.”
Sally’s eyes widened. “Of course. What name do you want her to have?”
He thought for a moment before his mind grasped the best possible option, looking down at the beloved babe in his arms. “Murielle. It means ‘star of the sea’.”
His former lover smiled. “Murielle. I’ll have it added tomorrow.”
Poseidon smiled sadly before handing her to Sally. “Take care of her, please.”
She nodded as she took their daughter. “I will, you know that.”
He did, but he wanted to make sure. He was not blind of the fact that many mortals when given a demigod child would abuse it or give it to someone who would, either family member or stepfather. He was hoping that this wouldn’t happen to his precious star.
He then reached into his pocket and handed Sally some paperwork. “I’ve bought the cabin and have hired someone for its upkeep. Please take her there each summer so I can at least see her from a distance.”
She nodded. “I can tell the people I work with that it’s part of the custody agreement that I take her there for the summer. I may be able to stay there more often if I do that.”
Poseidon smiled softly before placing a card on the nearby table. “This is the phone number for my mortal lawyer. He will help with anything you need.” He walked over to Sally and stroked Persephone’s cheek one final time. “Goodbye, daughter. Stay safe.”
With that, he took a step back and teleported away, leaving a part of his heart behind.
Sally smiled sadly before looking down at her child. “Percy.” She whispered her name before laying her down in the crib. “I’ll keep you safe, no matter what it takes. I promise.”
