Work Text:
“That was wonderful babe,” Evan said as they finished up dinner.
“Thanks!” Violet said. She had made a nice homemade dinner of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. Desert was cheesecake from their favorite local bakery.
“Wow it’s already 9:00,” Evan seeing the time.
“Well, we didn’t get done at that last call until almost 7:00 and I was starving!” Violet said as they cleaned the dishes up together. By the time they finished the dishes, both didn’t have the energy to really watch TV.
“Vi, you are falling asleep,” Evan said nudging her awake for the 10th time.
“You are snoring over there yourself,” she mumbled trying to keep her eyes open.
“I’m snoring and yet you are over there passed out,” Evan said pulling the blanket off her.
“Hey! I’m freezing,” she said snapping it back from him.
“Why don’t we go to bed and get under the covers,” Evan said kissing her.
“Can’t we just stay here?” Violet said trying to snuggle up against him.
“Violet, you are laying on top of me. I can’t sleep sitting up,” Evan said trying to push her off his lap.
“I’m not moving,” Violet said pulling the blanket back over her.
“Babe, I’m tired and not going to sleep with your head on my lap. Come on let’s go to bed,” Evan said moving to get her to get off his lap.
“Fine. Turn off the lights,” she said dragging herself into the bedroom. By the time Evan got into bed, Violet was snoring. He kissed her gently on the forehead and dozed off to sleep soon after his head hit the pillow. What felt like only a few minutes, Evan found himself wide awake. He got up to see what time it was.
“How the hell is it 6:45?” Evan asked himself yawning. He looked on the other side of the bed and didn’t see Violet in bed. She never was the first one awake. He walked out into the kitchen and saw that it was pitch black outside still. Which was odd because at almost 7:00am, it was daylight out.
“Vi! Where are you?” he asked not even seeing her around the apartment.
“I’m right here,” she said popping her head up on the couch.
“When did you get up?” he asked yawning.
“I slept here last night silly,” she said getting up and going into the kitchen. She then grabbed Evan’s sides tickling him.
“STOP! You know I can’t stand that,” Evan said trying to shake her off.
“Since when?” Violet asked.
“Since forever. I told you that months ago,” Evan said walking over to sit down on the couch to watch the news. Just then, he felt that sensation again.
“Mikami!” Evan said screaming her name out. When he turned around, he saw her still in the kitchen.
“You need to lay off that coffee, Hawkins. You are losing it,” she said going back into the bedroom. He got up and put the mug in the sink and felt that sensation again. He flipped around and didn’t see anything.
“What the fuck?” he asked out loud.
“Did you say something, Evan?” he heard Violet ask.
“I…I don’t even know,” Evan said unsure what to think at that moment. This was his worst nightmare. He tried to wake himself up and nothing was working. “This has to be a dream.”
“No it’s not babe. I’m right here,” Violet said putting her arms around his waist.
“Knock it off Mikami. This isn’t funny!” Evan said shoving her off him and walking across the room. As he sat down on the couch to drink his coffee, he put his feet up on the coffee table. He was engrossed in reading e-mails on his phone. He felt some one grabbing his sides. Which made him drop his phone and flip around.
“VIOLET! WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?” he screamed.
“I’m in the bathroom. What the hell is your problem?” she yelled.
“You mean to tell me a ghost keeps tickling me? Really Mikami? I’m not 6!” Evan said getting up to see exactly where she was. And she was in the opening of the bedroom smiling.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“Are you messing with me? Because this isn’t funny,” he said turning to go back to pick up his phone. When he again felt that familiar sensation. This time he jumped to find Violet’s arms all stretched out, like they were elastic bands.
“Here comes the tickle monster,” Violet said pulling her arms back in and starting to come toward him.
“Violet! This isn’t even funny! You know I can’t stand people touching me like that,” he tripping over the coffee table and dropping his coffee mug on the floor. He didn’t care at that point, he just wanted to get away from whatever possessed her. The more he moved, the longer her arms stretched out.
“What’s wrong, Evan? Everyone likes a good tickle,” she said laughing as she started to chase after him.
“Hell to the fuck no I do not! I hated it even as a kid! NOW STOP!” he said looking for a door that was no longer there. The apartment had become a window and doorless room. Even the bedroom was now a wall.
“Violet! Mikami! Please!” he said starting to realize his biggest fear was about to come true.
“It’s not going to hurt, Hawkins. I just want to hear you giggle,” she said starting to tickle his rib cage to up under his arms. He broke away and quickly bolted across the room. But everywhere he turned there was no escape. At that time, Violet seemed to be like Mrs. Incredible. She was bending her entire body in ways he had never seen any human ever make.
“Mikami, I’m begging you, Leave me alone,” he said slumping against the wall and curling up into a ball as at that time she had made it impossible for him to get away from her.
“This is going to be fun,” she said smiling and snapping her arms and legs back into socket. Evan was paralyzed in fear and couldn’t move at that point.
“VIOLET DON’T! PLEASE STOP!” Evan screamed as she began her torturous attack. He squirmed and tried to get away from her. The more he fought against her the worst it got. He couldn’t stand his feet being touched and she excitedly continued her attack as he screamed and begged her to stop.
“Evan! Evan! Wake up!” Violet said trying to wake him out of his nightmare. Evan could hear her but couldn’t snap awake.
“Please stop it,” he mumbled in his sleep.
“EVAN! HAWKINS!” Violet said shaking him violently to try to wake him up. She pinched him to see if that would do the trick.
“OW! WHAT WAS THAT FOR?” Evan asked waking up.
“I’ve been trying to wake your ass up. What the hell was going on?” she asked as they both sat up.
“I was having the worst nightmare,” he said surprised he didn’t feel sweat dripping off his forehead.
“Oh yeah?” she asked.
“You turned into Mrs. Incredible and has chased me around the apartment and kept tickling me. Oh my God! I thought I was going to die,” Evan said shuddering.
“Evan, it’s tickling. You do it to me all the time,” Violet said laughing.
“I hate it! I’m extremely ticklish! I was witnessing my worst nightmare and it felt very real,” Evan said kicking the blanket off and getting up.
“Babe, it’s ok. It was just a nightmare,” Violet said getting up to go over to hug him and he pulled back.
“Sorry,” he said pulling her in for a kiss. As they stood holding each other in their arms, Evan felt relief that it was just a nightmare. It must have been the big dinner before bed. It’s weird what your brains do when you fall asleep. It’s even worse when you can’t wake yourself up out the said nightmare. But for now, he was ready to get back to sleep and hoped for only puppies and kittens be that all came in his dreams the rest of that night.
