“Tango! Tango, please calm down!” Jimmy screams running after his soulmate.
Scar had just burned down the ranch and Tango… Well, let’s just say he’s about to burn down the Velvet Keep. And Jimmy’s the one trying to stop him from doing that. Everyone else on the server, at least the ones who witnessed the ranch being burned down, are just standing by, staring at Jimmy trying to get Tango to calm down. Now don’t get him wrong, Jimmy wants revenge on Scar and Grian but they need to plan it out first and Tango right now just wants to run in head first like a maniac.
An angry Tango is a scary Tango. He’s fully focused on his rage, not really paying attention to his surroundings. Since Tango is netherborn, he tends to set on fire when he gets mad - as in: there is fire encompassing his entire body. And since he is literally on fire Jimmy probably shouldn’t really touch Tango to try and hold him back. But Jimmy isn’t that stupid, right?
Wrong.
Jimmy is quite literally reaching out to wrap his arms around his soulmate’s waist in an attempt to keep him in place. Distantly, he could hear some yelling, maybe it was from Scott or Impulse but he ignored it as he started to seriously feel the heat emitting from Tango. The canary hybrid winced as he started to feel the fire on his skin but ignored it as he grabbed the netherborn.
Said netherborn froze as he felt Jimmy cling onto him. Jimmy felt tears burning in his eyes from the pain of the fire’s heat, “Tango please.” He quietly begs. Suddenly, the fire dissipates, just leaving the smell of ash in the air. Tango spins around to look Jimmy in the eyes, watery chocolate eyes staring into orange-reddish ones. The latter breaks eye contact for a second to look over the shorter man, he was covered in ash, his jacket slightly burned and torn while his face and arms were covered in burns.
“Oh Void, Jimmy I’m so sorry” Tango spills, spewing out sorry’s as he dragged his soulmate to the burnt ranch, letting go as he steps into the demolished building that was once their home. “Tango it’s okay, don’t worry buddy,” Jimmy tries to soothe as Tango rummages through the rubble to try to find the first aid kit he had stored away.
Jimmy hears footsteps approaching from behind him, he turns around to see Impulse standing there awkwardly, Bdubs not far behind him. The blonde raises an eyebrow at the other, silently asking what he wants. “Um… well,” He stutters, pulling out a roll of bandages, “You seem like you might need some fresh bandages, the ones in there might not be smart to use, they could infect your wounds more.” He explains, passing the bandages to the canary.
He turns to leave but stops, “Uh, also, if you wouldn’t mind getting Tango to message me after he’s calmed down a bit more” He asks him, Jimmy tilts his head in question. “He’s one of my best friends,” Impulse continues, “I know he tends to get quite freaked out after he has moments like that.” He sadly smiles. “I trust that you’ll look after him. I just want to know that he’s okay from him himself, if that makes sense.”
Jimmy nods, smiling at Impulse, “Of course, I’ll make sure he texts you later.” He reassures. Impulse returns the smile and gives a ‘Thank you’ before leaving.
As Impulse leaves, Tango appears next to Jimmy, holding the charred bandages he found. “Put those down hon, I’ve got some clean ones from Impulse” He says softly, knowing that Tango is stressed. The netherborn nods and drops the destroyed bandages onto the floor and holds out a hand to take the clean ones. Jimmy hands them over; Tango drags him to their cauldron of clean water so he could clean Jimmy’s burns before wrapping them.
They both stay silent as Tango cleans and wraps Jimmy’s burns. Jimmy takes the liberty to look around at their area, luckily the stable was still intact so their animals were okay but the ranch- their home is gone. Burnt to the ground. Jimmy almost cries as the facts finally processed in his brain. The home he and Tango worked so hard on is gone.
Tango finally breaks the silence after a while, “I’m sorry.” He whispers, tying the last bandage to keep it in place. Jimmy reaches forwards to cup his soulmate’s cheeks with both hands and Tango sinks into it, “Look at me Tang,” He mutters. Tango looks at him, tears brimming in his eyes from his guilt. “It’s okay hon. I’m okay, you’re okay, that’s all that matters.” He reassures, shaking Tango a bit.
Tango pushes Jimmy’s hand away, “It’s not okay though!” He yells, “I’ve hurt you and the ranch is burnt to the ground, all our hard work gone. ” He stresses, tears rolling down his face. Jimmy does nothing for a minute, internally contemplating what to do - he settles on dragging Tango into a hug, the other sinking into it easily.
They stay like that for a few minutes, Tango silently sobbing into Jimmy’s shoulder while the canary runs his fingers through his hair. “I’m okay Tango,” Jimmy says after a while, “You’ve patched me up perfectly and I know you didn’t mean to hurt me.” He smiles. Tango opens his mouth to argue but Jimmy shushes him, “Nope, I will not be hearing any arguments. You were clearly not in the right mind and I was an idiot and decided to latch onto you when you were literally on fire. ” He states, lifting Tango’s head up so he could see his face.
Jimmy takes a breath before he continues, “We can rebuild the ranch easily. So I don’t want to hear you blaming yourself for anything today, understood?” Tango nods, shoving his head back into Jimmy's chest, earning a surprised chuckle from the blonde.
“It’s getting dark,” Jimmy sighs, looking up at the sun setting in the sky. “I need to build a shelter for us to sleep in tonight, there’s no way we can patch up the ranch in time,” He rambles. He was about to stand up when Tango tugged him back down on the log he was sitting on. “Honey, I know you want cuddles, but I need to make sure we won’t get killed by mobs in the middle of the night.” He tries to coax Tango to let go of him but the netherborn just clings onto him tighter.
Jimmy sighs, “Tango darling please. ” He begs, “I just need you to stay here for a few minutes, I promise I’ll stay safe. Besides, you need to message Impulse and tell him you’re okay, he’s worried about you.” He tries and that seems to work. Tango hesitates before loosening his grip on Jimmy, letting the other slip away to make a shelter.
After around fifteen minutes later the soulmates were cuddled up on a flimsy bed with a thin blanket in a small dirt shack, a single lantern lighting it up. “I love you Jimmy,” Tango mumbles sleepily, nuzzling his face into the canary’s chest. Jimmy freezes for a second before quietly replying, “Love you too.” And like that, they fell asleep.
