Coming Home

Summary:

Two thousand years after the titans are eradicated, Levi and crew find themselves reincarnated into the modern world. And Eren kept his promise to reach out to Levi first. The best part? They all remember what it was like in their past lives and they're all ok with it. Because it wasn't their lives anymore. They were happy and safe.

"Eren! Come meet my anal big brother! He's just your type!" A drunk Mikasa yelled across the bar like a complete savage. A groan of mortification sounded and Levi's ears perked up. Eren was here?! Now?! Was he happy? Was he just as tall as he was when they killed titans?

A gorgeous brunette appeared out of the crowd, dressed in a ruffled beige skirt and an emerald scoop neck halter top with thigh-high brown boots on. "Mikasa seriously. Put the glass down. You're drunk." The girl scolded her friend before her bright grey eyes met Levi's onyx rimmed silver. The brunette gasped softly, manicured hand coming up slightly as if to cover her mouth in shock.

"Hey brat." Levi said casually. As if his heart wasn't hammering in his chest in remembered grief and pain. Tears welled up in expressive grey eyes and Eren threw herself at him with a half choked sob. "Levi!" She wailed.

If you're not sure what Levi's eyes look like, they look like this:

Work Text:

Levi Ackerman sometimes wondered if the goddesses of old hated his guts because in his last life he was a cynical, jaded bastard. This life was peaceful and not only was he not a shrimp (fuck you very much Mikasa), but he wasn’t a cynical, jaded bastard. Well not like he was in his previous life. No titans equaled safety and that suited Levi right down to the ground. He just had one little problem. His subordinate, now his little sister, Mikasa was nowhere near the same jaded, gloomy, psychotic little shit she was in her previous life. This life was good to her so she opened up more and became a party girl of sorts. She was still responsible when she wasn’t throwing shots back with her best friend Sasha Blouse, but she wasn’t withdrawn like she was back then.

Levi sighed as he sat at some random ass bar with his (extra) sister and their friends. It used to be Levi's friends and Mikasa's (bratty little shits) friends until their friends Armin and Erwin reunited and actually kindled a romance. So Levi ended up seeing a lot more of his old squad mates than usual and while he didn't hate it, Levi was a little anxious at the beginning due to them all remembering their old lives. But he was worried for no reason as it turned out because while they all knew their past lives, they didn't dwell on them and they didn't seem to blame Levi for being the sole witness to Eren's last moments. The only person he hadn't seen reincarnated was the former Attack Titan. That didn't mean that Eren didn't reincarnate. It just meant that he hadn't met Levi and friends yet. As far as he knew.

Mikasa was hanging off Jean Kirstein who looked like he was in heaven. They were dating in this life as well to Levi's eternal annoyance. It wasn't that Levi disliked Jean, quite the opposite actually, but he wasn't Captain Levi anymore. He was Levi the big brother of the girl he was in love with and may or may not be having sex with. So naturally, Levi had to be the quasi-villainous brother. And wasn't it a big fat laugh that Kenny was his and Mikasa's fucking father this time around instead of their homicidally unhinged uncle. Kuchel Ackerman was still his mother but she was now Mikasa's too and not related to Kenny in any way, shape, or form except marriage. Kenny and Kuchel were the only ones that Levi knew of that didn't remember their previous lives to Levi's eternal joy.

Levi's eyes rolled in irritation when his sister, half drunk and the ravenet now felt a sense of kinship with the poor fucker that had to live with that, opened her mouth to call someone.

Levi caught her easily, feeling like his chest was cracking open like a sink hole, and his eyes softened. "I thought you'd be a boy again. But this suits you a lot better. Your beauty looks a lot more natural in this life." He said. Eren laughed wetly as she grabbed a napkin to blot at her eyes so she didn't smear her make-up and wiped her nose so she didn't snot all over the taller ravenet's shirt. "You're just saying that because for once in your life, I have to look up to you instead of the other way around." She sniffled. Levi snorted but he didn't correct her. Not when he had Eren in his arms alive and well, not the fading beauty he'd last held.

Eren smiled as bright and beautiful as he remembered and her soft, because in this life they didn't need to wield weapons to stay alive, hands curled around his jaw. "Have you ever been in love Captain?" She asked gently. "Twice. I'm hoping the second time around isn't anything like the first time. What about you?" Levi replied softly, feeling like Eren and himself were the only ones in the whole world. "Twice." Eren agreed. "My drunk as fuck sister?" Levi teased gently. Eren laughed softly. "Hah no. The one I love is older than me and hard to approach on first glance. But that's ok. It just makes things a lot easier for me when I offer my heart. Because I don't have to worry about anyone else knocking it out of my hands before that." She replied. And now Levi didn't have to wonder if the other person knew. Because he received the message loud and clear.

"Hey Levi?" Eren's voice was just as soft as it was that night on the beach. "Yeah?" Levi's voice was just as hushed. "Can I kiss you?" Eren whispered. She didn't apologize for being selfish. Not like last time because she knew that Levi didn't mind her being as selfish as she wanted to be. "You don't even have to ask. I waited two thousand years for you brat. Now keep your promise and reach out first." The ravenet replied. And Eren could do nothing else but do as he told her.

The brunette moved her hands to wrap her arms around Levi's neck and slotted their mouths together in their first kiss as two normal people rather than two soldiers that had to sneak around. And if anyone asked, Levi would tell them with complete sincerity that it was absolutely perfect. That it was everything that he'd hoped for and more. Because kissing Eren was like coming home after being away for what felt like a lifetime.
