Chapter Text
Character Profiles:
“Jungkook-ah, did you finish your math homework last night? Where’s your notebook?” Yoongi asks as he patiently sorts out the mess in Jungkook’s bag. The boy really doesn’t have any love for school, and Jimin suffers every night trying to help him with his homework that he doesn’t want to do.
Jungkook pouts, clearly not wanting to talk about his homework. “Jiminie-Hyung helped me, Hyung,” he answers anyway, running across the room to grab the notebook from the table before running back to Yoongi and shoving the notebook in his bag, to which Yoongi just sighs and rearranges it for him before zipping up the bag and giving it to Jungkook.
“What about you, Taehyung-ah?” Yoongi asks, turning to face Taehyung this time, who’s busy sorting out his own things.
Taehyung grins proudly. “Of course, Hyung! I did them all by myself!” he boasts. Yoongi laughs, looking at Taehyung fondly and patting him on the head, uttering a silent ‘good job’ which Jungkook will probably complain about for the rest of the day.
“And Jimin?” he asks for the last time, meeting Jimin’s gaze.
“Yeah, always,” Jimin answers. He’s honestly too old for Yoongi to worry about, but Jimin appreciates it anyway.
Yoongi cares a lot about them and wants what’s best for them. He’s working very hard just for his brothers to finish studying, after all. He didn’t get the chance to do it, so he doesn’t want his brothers to go through the same things he did, and Jimin will forever be grateful for that. He will not take all of Yoongi’s efforts for granted - not when Yoongi has sacrificed everything for them.
“That’s great,” Yoongi says with a smile. “You guys should go to school now. Jimin, take care of your brothers, okay? You know how it goes. You should come home together if possible since I won’t be able to drop by because of work.”
“You’re working today?” Jimin asks, voice tense and form suddenly rigid. Taehyung and Jungkook look at him with genuine confusion. They don’t know anything. They don’t understand why Jimin is always so anxious when Yoongi is working.
“Yeah,” Yoongi answers casually, now used to Jimin’s reaction to his job. “I’ll be home as early as possible, though, and I’ll even buy some food you guys like if I earn enough today,” he says.
The younger ones cheer happily, hugging Yoongi and chanting ‘chicken’ repeatedly. Yoongi, the selfless and kind brother that he is, just smiled and promised to get what they wanted. It’s nice to see Taehyung and Jungkook happy, but Jimin couldn’t bring himself to be happy. Jimin doesn’t want good food if it means Yoongi has to get hurt.
“Hyung, you don’t have to. I still have some of my allowance. We can buy anything to eat. It doesn’t have to be expensive-”
“Hyung will worry about it. What you three should worry about is going to school because you’ll be late if you don’t leave now,” Yoongi gently cuts him off, and Jimin doesn’t have a choice but to drop the topic and shut up.
Yoongi walks them to the door, with Taehyung and Jungkook clinging to him like little kids until Yoongi ushers them away with fondness evident on his face.
Jimin walks away with Taehyung and Jungkook bickering happily beside him, completely unaware of everything that’s worrying Jimin. It doesn’t feel good going to school and using the money Yoongi works so hard for while knowing that Yoongi is out there doing something that he doesn’t want to do just for them to survive.
Jimin wishes that he could do something. He wishes he could share Yoongi’s burden so Yoongi wouldn’t have to get hurt for the three of them anymore. But he can’t. Yoongi thinks he’s too young to help. He’s still powerless. And knowing Yoongi, he wouldn’t let Jimin do anything anyway.
Since their father died and their mother left with another man, Yoongi has been carrying all the burden by himself, working so hard without complaining even once. Jimin had seen him cry before. Jimin knows that Yoongi has it hard. He just hopes that Yoongi has someone to share those burdens with because that’s not something he should bear all alone.
