Hide and Seek: A Series

Summary:

Albus Potter is nothing like his father. He would be the first to tell you that. When he embarks on his journey to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he is accompanied by little more than feelings of isolation and frustration. The cold-eyed stranger and dark rumor he encounters on the train certainly don’t help.

After an unforeseen sorting and a society grappling with a faceless threat of extinction, Albus is forced to rethink everything he knows about his family, his world, and himself. Embarking on a journey of self discovery with an unexpected alliance, he must define the things that truly matter and how far he’ll go to protect them.

Notes:

This story is a love letter to all corners of the fandom. It is meant to have a little bit of something for everyone, from Marauders fans to Golden Era to video game players to fans of the play. I hope you enjoy it.

--

Important changes: There is no time travel. Delphi is not the daughter of Voldemort. The rumor about Scorpius has nothing to do with Voldemort. If you’re looking for Scorbus it will be a very, very slow burn.

This story is what I call canon-inspired. It is written in a way that (I hope) respects the themes and emotions of The Cursed Child, but takes many VERY significant diversions.

If you don't count CC then it can be considered loosely Canon Compliant. (HP 1-7 are respected, some liberties taken with Marauder's era lore)

The story is be told in three parts, all published in this work.

On Wolfstar and Jegulus: This story is written in a way that fans of All The Young Dudes and Choices can fit into their personal headcanon if they wish. There are references. It 100% does not require reading those, but I recommend them strongly anyway.

Finally, I cannot promise you a happy ending or even a happy beginning. I do kindly hope that you grant the same grace for that as prequel fics that are written into tragic canon-events. I CAN promise it does end in a heart-warming way no matter what happens.

Note: You may use characterisations, OCs, events, plot lines, anything from this story in your own works however you wish. I don't own the characters, the universe, etc. You can do whatever you want with the story and do not need to ask. Fan art, spin offs, other POVs, have at it. Just remember that in most countries you are not allowed to profit in any way off fan creations, so please respect the laws regarding such things.

Chapter 1: Part One Prologue

Chapter Text

Part One: The Cursed Child

Prologue

"Please, someone help! Anybody, please!" The boy's screams echoed through the forest, desperate and pleading as he knelt in the clearing, cradling the one he had found.

His voice had become hoarse from what felt like hours of calling out, his shock turning to panic and then to a sorrow that threatened to consume him whole. Dirt, blood and sweat coated his face as he rocked the other gently, tears streaming down his face. He needed someone to hear him, to come to their rescue.

As if answering his silent plea, the other's eyes fluttered open, struggling against the dried blood that pooled near the crook of their nose. "You...you're here," a whisper through laboured breaths. The boy put a hand to the other's face, his voice trembling with emotion. "I told you I'd come, didn't I?"

"I'm..." the other began, but the boy interrupted. "Save your energy. I called for help. You just have to stay awake, can you stay awake for me?" The other nodded, years of unspoken thoughts and feelings and promises passing between them as they waited for uncertain salvation. They sat there for several minutes in silent communion.

"I don't think I'm going to-" the other began, but the boy cut them off, his panic rising. "No, you're going to be okay. Someone is coming. I sent a patronus. I know someone is coming. You're going to be okay. You're not going to-"

The other stopped him with a weak hand on his arm. "Please. Just tell me a story. The one you promised?"

The boy looked away for a moment, swallowing the sob in his throat before turning back to the other in his arms. The tears he tried to hold back stung his eyes as he nodded. "Okay. Yeah, yeah. I'll tell you a story,” a pained smile on his face as their eyes locked, “This is the story about a boy whose life was going to change forever..." The boy's voice broke as he began, the two of them clinging to each other as they waited for rescue in the clearing, both knowing that time was running out.
