Chapter 1: Close Call

Chapter Text

(Credits to Lucifer for the start of the chapter)
"OVER THERE!! GET EM!" The hunter in the white cloak shouted, pointing to the three hybrids that had just stolen from the street vendors.

Wilbur, the bat hybrid and the second oldest of the crime trio, was racing down the market with Dream, the albino enderman hybrid, and Tubbo, the pink sheep hybrid that joined their little group a few days ago, on either side of him. The bag of goods were slapping the side of his legs which dragged him down some. He noticed that the same was happening with Tubbo.

"Aah!" Tubbo screeched. Wilbur cursed under his breath. He knew a hunter had gotten him. Dream noticed as well, he took the goods from Wilbur and nodded to him before running off.

Wilbur turned around and pulled out his makeshift diamond sword, then slammed himself into the hunters leader, Sapnap.

"What the hell-!?" Sapnap yelled as he was knocked off balance, and wind being knocked out of his lungs. He wasn't going to be able to chase the group down in this condition.

Wilbur turned to the young sheep hybrid "Go, Tubbo! I'll take care of them!" He shouted. Tubbo clearly could barely hear him, but he got the message and ran off to help Dream.

Once Tubbo was out of sight, Wilbur turned to the group of hunters, prepared to fight them. The co-leader, Punz, and the supply holder, George, were helping Sapnap. The older two of the hunters weren't there, they must've been out supply shopping. Which meant that Wilbur had to fight only two of the hunters, Sam the strategist and Purpled the one in training.

Sam had his iron sword out and was mostly protecting his downed leader, but Purpled on the other hand was begging for a duel with him.

Wilbur really didn't want to fight the kid, but he needed to keep his friends safe. "Kid you don't have to do this-" he said in a nervous tone, that he tried hiding behind a more confident voice but failed.

Purpled just smirked like he was on the high ground, but had that smirk quickly wiped off his face when his crotch was smashed by the young sheep's head. He quickly dropped his iron sword and curled up into a ball as he held his crotch in pain.

The market place filled with pained groans from the men feeling Purpled's pain and small whispers from the young ladies.

Wilbur was more surprised by what Tubbo did then the fact that Purpled is curled up in pain. I mean why would he care? Purpled was literally going to fight him. If anything, Wilbur is impressed that Tubbo came back to help him.

Tubbo giggled like the little mischievous four year old he is and ran off back to Dream. Wilbur quickly followed, leaving the hunters behind in shock, pain, and embarrassment. Wilbur couldn't help but snicker and the faint pained laughter from Purpled and Punz.

Once the trio got to their temporary hide out, they sorted out the food and materials then made a list of what they got and how much of each item they have.

"Wow, we got a really good hull this time," Wilbur said, looking over the list. "This should last us a month or so if we handle it properly and we can make Tubbo some weapons he can work with"

"I don't know, that headbutt was pretty powerful by itself" Dream said, putting the food up. Tubbo bounced with excitement.

"He's going to need to learn more than just headbutting, Dream" Wilbur said with eminence amounts of sass.

"So you want to traumatize the kid with the possibility of accidentally killing someone?" Dream retaliated, returning the sass.

"If we can teach him to attack only the hunters-"

"I already know how to do that! My dad taught me before mom left me in the forest" Tubbo interrupted Wilbur.

“Oh- well that works, but training is still needed.” Wilbur stated.

“I can do that, since I was raised on multiple self-defense attacks. They’re violent but effective.” Dream suggested.

“Perfect then, once we get back to the main base you can start training Tubbo” Wilbur suggested. Dream nodded before helping Wilbur with the supplies.

At sun down, the trio packed up their campsite and began their journey through the dark oak forest. They never camped in the same town for more than a week. If they did, they’d be at the risk of the hunters finding them. Both Dream and Wilbur learned that the hard way a few years ago in, the now abandoned city of, Pogtiopia. That’s where they first encountered the hunters. The whole city was a safe haven for hybrids and rare mobs that long lost their homes to hunters. Everything was peaceful until a newer group of hunters used two young enderman hybrids to find the city. They came at night and caged about a third of the small city, anyone who fought back or was caught trying to escape was killed and put in a covered wagon, many children were also caught and caged. Dream didn’t stay long enough to see the horror, but Wilbur did, he was in his early teens and had been caught by the group's leader. He saw the reason why Pogtopia was built in the first place.

The hunters were selling the dead hybrids on the black market to be made into jewelry, clothes, exotic meats, and taxidermied for museums or the rich. The living hybrids were sold off as pets, slaves in factories, and collectables for the rich. Half of the hybrid kids were adopted by wealthy couples who have been wanting a kid.

Wilbur was one of the hybrids that was going to be up for adoption. Luckily he was able to escape one night before they got to the town they were heading to. From there he reunited with Dream in the dark oak forest and they built a secret base in the middle of the forest. Over the years they started doing trips to three different nations; Las Nevadas, L’manburg, and Kinoko. While on a trip to L’manburg, they found a pink sheep hybrid wandering the forest alone, Wilbur was instantly attached to him and brought him along with them, it took a few hours for Dream to warm up to the new member, and that’s how they found Tubbo.
