Chapter Text
Izuku smiled at Eraserhead as the last of the league was taken away. All for one was finally dead and he felt free. They had finally won the war, he was no longer a target and the others who had survived could rest finally,.He looked at the rubble around him, sighing at the destruction in the street. So much death over the years, he was still so young for what he had been through. He was lucky he wasn't alone anymore, he had family and he had a few friends left. They would all recover, even if it took a long time.
He could see Eri moving closer, her service animal helping find people, while she began checking on the injuries and reversing what she could. His little sister, his unicorn, was no longer little anymore. She had overcome so much in the last eight years. She was a strong confident healer now, no longer having nightmares about her time with chisaki and the yakuza. Now she was in her first year at U.A and working as a healing hero.
As he turned back to lean against his Dad, he heard the man speak.
"Proud of you problem child.”
The words filled him with warmth before his eyes closed. He was so tired, and he knew he had lost a lot of blood in that final battle. Hell he was missing an arm now after all. The vestiges told him to rest and he had made them proud as he let the darkness take over.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw his middle school teacher standing in front of him with a look of annoyance written across his features.
"Nice to see you’re finally awake, Deku. Detention after school.”
A feeling of dread filled him as he looked around the classroom. Was it all a dream? Was it not real? Tears fell down his face as devastation filled his very being. He looks around the room as his teacher continues the lesson, trying to find some indication of the date as he spots all of his old tormentors.
Finally, he looks in his notebook, seeing the date written, eyes widening in shock. There’s still 3 months until the entrance exam! What the hell happened? He tried to think, trying to call up One For All and feeling nothing. A bit of panic filled him as he sat there. He was quirkless again, did that mean Shigaraki, and all for one were still out there? Was papa still alive? Where was pops?
He waited as the lesson continued, his senses attuned to his surroundings as he had gotten used to doing over the years. By the end of the day, he had nearly forgotten his detention. As he went to leave, he heard the teacher speak up, “Deku. Where do you think you’re going? Sit back in your chair for detention.”
Izuku nodded, going back to his desk and sitting quietly as he heard Bakugou laughing with his friends in the hall. He sat through detention anxiously going over what he remembered while ignoring the rude remarks he heard his teacher say until he’s able to leave, at which point he rushed out the door, feeling slow without his ability to use One for All. His head was silent, his head hadn't been silent in years. He hated to admit, he kind of missed Hikage, and Daigoro.. Hell he kind of even missed second and his snarky attitude.
He made his way out of the school, beginning the walk towards home before he realized Inko would be there. She’s likely home right now, and she’ll be upset that he’s late. She’ll beat him til he can’t stand. He shakes his head, knowing he can’t go back to that. Not after everything he went through to get away from her. Not after all the time he spent away from her harsh beatings.
Izuku switched directions, instead heading towards UA, hoping that someone there remembered him. Hoping that it wasn’t all a dream. He needed to go see the one person he knew he could trust even if no one else remembered him. Nedzu, no matter how sadistic the rat was, he was a good mammal and would help him.
He moved quickly, taking the train he knew all too well, when he finally arrived at the prestigious school in the early evening. As he reached the gates, he paused, going over to a screen on one side and pressing the button. The rat better not play games with him today, he wasn't in the mood for that.
BZZZZT
After a few seconds, a voice sounds out from the speaker. “State your name and the purpose of your visit.”
“My name is Midoriya Izuku, and I’m here to see Principal Nezu. It’s urgent.”
“Do you have an appointment?”
“No, but this is impor-“
“If you don’t have an appointment then I can’t help you.”
As Izuku listened to the click of the receiver, he glared at the screen before looking up where he knew there’s a camera hidden.
“I swear to sky daddy, Rat, you’d better let me in right now! I’ve had a long day, and I need to discuss a matter of public safety with you! I know you can see me, so let me in!”
The speaker buzzes again, and a new voice speaks up, one that Izuku feels so relieved to hear. “And what matter of public safety might that be, for you to be addressing me so informally?”
“It’s a long story, and I’d rather not explain it where people could overhear. You’re welcome to search me, but I don’t have a quirk, or anything that could hurt anyone here. You employ heroes, and at this point, they could easily take me down. Just let me in.”
A few minutes passed, and Izuku could hear typing on the other end until the gate buzzed open, Hound dog walking up on the other side and handing Izuku a visitor’s pass. “Follow me. I’ll take you to the Principal.” Hound dog growled, leading Izuku through the gate.
“I know how to get there, Hound Dog.”
The man gave Izuku a suspicious look before turning back and continuing to lead him to the office. As they pass the teacher’s lounge, Izuku can’t help but glance in the door, spotting Aizawa at his desk across from Present Mic and Midnight.
He pauses by the door, watching them for a few seconds before he feels Hound dog grab his arm and pull him away. They continued on to Nedzu’s office, eventually reaching the door.
Izuku looked up at the camera hidden in the corner, waving a bit before Hound dog knocked on the door and it swung open.
“Thank you, Inui-kun. You can leave. I’d like to speak to Midoriya-kun alone.”
Hound dog nodded and left as Izuku walked in.
“So, Midoriya-kun. What is this matter of public safety you want to discuss?”
“Hero Code T-1.21G. That is the most applicable code from my memory.”
“Oh, this is interesting… So you say you’re from a different time period? Explain.”
“I believe so… At least my memories are. I had been sitting with Eraserhead, approximately 8 years from now, and I closed my eyes, and when I opened them, I was back in my middle school classroom. It felt like the past 8 years had just been a dream… We- We lost so many heroes, and even more civilian lives… I just- I’m scared it was all for nothing.”
Nezu nods slightly. “And do you have any proof that any of what you remembered happened?”
“Only my memories… I mean, I know some things that most civilian middle schoolers wouldn’t know…”
“Like?”
“Eraserhead, otherwise known as Aizawa Shouta, and Present Mic, also known as Yamada Hizashi, are married. They’ve been married for 10 years at this point.”
The rat frowns, tilting his head. “And how do you know this?”
“Eraserhead was my homeroom teacher, and he was the first person I went to when my mom kicked me out at 18. I trusted him with my life, like most of my class, and he helped us become great heroes in the middle of a war. He was like a father to me.”
“Very interesting. Perhaps I should call Aizawa-kun in. If he was the last one you had contact with before, maybe he will remember you, and I can have a second account of what happened.” He types a bit on his computer, sending an Email to Aizawa.
“He should be here shortly.”
Izuku nodded, waiting anxiously, worried Aizawa wouldn't remember him, worried it really was all just a dream and he would be alone again. By the time Shouta arrived in the office, Izuku is staring at the ground chewing his lip with anxiety, lost in his own head until he hears a voice speak up behind him.
“Problem Child?”
Izuku turned to the doorway, his breath caught in his lungs, tearing up as he saw Shouta, his dad. He got up quickly, and ran over to the man hugging him tight, sighing as he felt arms wrap around him. “Dad… You remember?”
“I do, Kid. I remember it all.”
