I. Living together
It's been almost a month now and Robby is still getting used to this.
It was Miguel's grandma's idea. She suggested it weeks ago during dinner - because that's a thing he does now apparently; having dinner with his dad and Miguel and Miguel's family - and everyone was quick to brush her off at first. Miguel's grandma didn't insist or anything, but it didn't take the rest of them long to realize that that might have actually been a good and practical idea.
And that's how he and Miguel ended up being roommates after everything that's happened between them, sharing his dad's apartment.
It's been weird, but mostly because of how normal everything feels.
Robby's lived with his mom and with the Larussos and a little bit with his dad. He's lived alone for long periods of time and he's spent three months in jail and was even homeless for a bit before that. This, though, is different from any of that.
He always thought living with a friend would be cool, but the closest he'd come to that before this was his shitty supposed friends coming to his house when he was alone just to eat the food and make a fucking mess and then leave. This is nothing like that.
This is... nice. Even if it's kind of hard for him to get used to it.
They eat breakfast and lunch over at Miguel's - yes, Miguel’s, even if he doesn’t live there anymore - most of the time, and even when they don't, there's somehow always homemade food waiting for them in their kitchen and their fridge is always full, and not even with all that shit his dad used to have. There's, like, actual food in there and logically Robby knows he's allowed to get whatever he wants from the fridge, because he's not just a guest anymore, but sometimes it's hard to remember that.
But maybe that's a good thing. He allowed himself to feel safe when he was staying with the Larussos and it was only harder to leave that safety when eventually everything was ruined and he realized he couldn't go back. He can't let himself relax completely and get too comfortable, not when he doesn't know how long this will last. He might fuck everything up again; he tends to do that a fucking lot.
So he hasn't unpacked his stuff yet, it's all still in his backpack and his suitcase, exactly like it's been since he brought everything from his house about a month ago. He doesn't think anyone is paying enough attention to him to notice that the closet and all the drawers in his room are empty, so why does it even matter.
But of fucking course Miguel has to prove him wrong.
They're sitting on the couch one afternoon, watching some TV and allowing themselves to be a little lazy since there's no training today, a strangely comfortable silence having settled between them.
"Hey, uh, I wanted to ask you," Miguel says after a while, startling Robby a little and sounding more awkward than Robby's been used to lately. "Are you going somewhere?"
Robby frowns, having no idea what Miguel is talking about. "What?"
"Your suitcase," Miguel clarifies and well…
Shit.
Robby shrugs, trying to play it off as if it's simply something he's forgotten to do and it hasn't been eating at him all this time. "Just haven't emptied it yet," he says as if it hasn't been weeks since he officially moved in with Miguel. He's quite sure Miguel knows him well enough by now to not really buy this whole act- and isn't that a fucking weird thought; Miguel knowing him.
"Well, you should unpack. You're not going anywhere," Miguel tells him, choosing his words like he knows a lot more than he should, like he somehow knows Robby needs the reassurance. Robby always thought he was hard to read and to get to know, but lately he's started wondering if that's not the case after all, if it's simply that no one cared to do so until now. "Okay, come on. We're doing it right now," Miguel decides, just like that, and gets up from the couch and Robby finds himself following him to his room.
He doesn't know if it's a good idea. It still seems dangerous, letting go and trusting Miguel and risking getting hurt and disappointed again. But he admits he feels a bit lighter as they place his things, one after another, in the drawers. And when they're done and Miguel shoots him one of those grins of his, all wide and satisfied and almost proud, Robby thinks that perhaps he doesn't care about whether it's dangerous or not; he thinks it might be worth it either way.
II. Sharing
It doesn't take Robby long to realize he feels more at home in his dad's - in their? - apartment since he and Miguel unpacked all his stuff. It's been just a few weeks since then and the whole place is already full of both their things, clothes and Gis and books everywhere; it's honestly quite a mess most of the time, but it's their mess, so Robby can't say he actually minds.
He also really likes knowing that he has some company at home and isn't alone. The fact that Miguel is said company might be making the whole situation even better.
That's what Robby's thinking about now, coming home to Miguel - and is that a weird thought? Fucking probably - as he returns from the skate park. Miguel comes with him sometimes and Robby's been teaching him how to skate, which includes a lot of Miguel getting frustrated and swearing - a lot more than he usually does, which makes the whole thing even more entertaining - and Robby trying and failing to not laugh. It's actually quite fucking fun and admittedly Miguel is a rather quick learner; that doesn't mean Robby will stop laughing every time he falls on his ass, of course.
He finds Miguel sitting on the couch when he gets home, his laptop placed on his lap.
"Hey," he greets and lets out a dramatic sigh, as he all but collapses next to Miguel, who moves the laptop from his lap to the coffee table.
"Hey," he says then, a smile forming on his lips when he turns to look at Robby. "How's Kenny?"
"Good. Better," Robby says, feeling his chest weirdly warm and deciding to pretend Miguel isn't the reason why. Because of course Miguel knows Kenny is important to Robby and that he's been worrying about him, and Robby didn't even have to say anything to him to understand this.
And it's the truth, thankfully; Kenny is doing well. All the uncontrollable anger is gone and they're getting along again. Cobra Kai can poison you and turn you into the worst version of yourself, but you can still change. He did. Or at least he hopes he did.
"I'm glad," Miguel tells him and Robby can easily tell that he truly means it. "Wait," he says then, slightly narrowing his eyes as he looks at Robby. "Is that my shirt?"
"What-" Robby is about to answer - uh, no it's not - but stops himself when he looks down at the shirt he's wearing. He has no idea how he didn't notice it when he wore it earlier this afternoon. "Oh shit. You're right, sorry-" He really hopes Miguel doesn’t think he did it on purpose; taking someone else’s things without asking is stealing and Robby doesn’t do that anymore.
"No no, it's fine," Miguel says quickly, interrupting his apology. "Actually you can keep it if you want. It's a bit short on me, anyway." His grin turns smug and playful now and Robby feels his own lips twitching up into a smile without his permission.
"Oh shut up, Diaz," he says and bumps his shoulder against Miguel's, rolling his eyes more in amusement than anything else. Robby's quite sure when their stupid rivalry started they were pretty much the same height, but now Miguel's about two inches taller and he's being annoying about it. Annoying in a way that makes Robby smile and shake his head fondly and want to maybe just stare at Miguel and his grin and his amused eyes-
So yeah, anyway, it just feels good to know Miguel's comfortable enough to joke around with him and tease him.
"No, for real though. It looks good on you. You should keep it," Miguel tells him and the words are genuine this time, not teasing, and Robby utters an awkward 'thanks' in reply, deciding he's definitely keeping it and it's absolutely not because Miguel said that it looks good on him.
It begins like this and then it kind of just keeps happening. It's Miguel being cold when they're out and Robby giving him his jacket without thinking much about it, and Robby not finding a clean pair of sweatpants - sometimes their mess gets a bit out of hand, he admits, but they're doing their best - and Miguel lending him one of his ones - and yes, it’s slightly long, whatever - and after a certain point, without him even realizing, sharing clothes simply becomes a regular thing they do.
It's actually quite nice. Miguel's scent lingers on his clothes afterwards, sometimes even after they're washed- or it's all just in Robby's head, he's not sure. Either way he likes it. And he also likes seeing Miguel in his clothes, so it's... Yeah. It's nice. He just has to ignore the strange amused looks Tory and Sam give them when they notice. Whatever. It's just something roommates that are also friends do. That's all.
III. Cooking
Robby used to cook sometimes, when his mom stayed out all day or when she wasn't in a state to make anything for them to eat. He was mostly heating up frozen pizza, if he's honest, but mainly because you need to have actual food in the kitchen in order to cook anything else. Now the fridge is full, though, and he's actually picked up a few things from Miguel's grandma - she’s always happy to have him in the kitchen when she cooks and sometimes even lets him help her - so when he has time, he cooks; Miguel can eat pretty much anything when he's hungry, so it works pretty well.
The only issue is that he's been informed Miguel shouldn't be allowed in any kitchen - not even to make breakfast apparently - but Miguel has yet to accept that.
"Robby, come on. I can help," he says now, even though Robby has already told him no- by order of Carmen Diaz. "Like, yes, that one time I made breakfast the food might've been a bit... overcooked-" Robby translates that to absolutely burnt, "but it's not like I started a fire in the kitchen or anything, right? My mom is just overreacting," he insists and apparently when Miguel isn't looking at you like he's ready to punch you, his eyes get all big and somehow even more beautiful than they usually are and it's kind of hard to say no to him. He's kind of like that cute emoji with the huge eyes. If Miguel does end up burning the kitchen this time, it'll hardly be Robby's fault for letting him help; not when Miguel is clearly not playing fair.
"Okay, fine," he says at last and is rewarded with a huge grin.
Robby definitely doesn't regret his decision to let Miguel help. It turns out once again the two of them make a pretty good team.
And despite Miguel being a supposed danger in the kitchen, it's Robby that almost starts a fire this time. Because, well, with Miguel helping him it's easier than he thought to get distracted.
Especially since the space is quite small and their shoulders constantly brush together as they move around. And Miguel insists on peeking inside the pot when Robby is stirring the food, which means Miguel standing almost right behind him, their faces close together. And it’s also Miguel trying the food to see if it’s ready and nodding approvingly, before offering some to Robby, and Robby letting him bring the spoon to his lips but absolutely refusing to maintain eye contact with Miguel as he does so, because it’s too much.
So yeah, it's all fun and a bit torturous and Robby tries to not dwell on any of it, but he already knows he's definitely letting Miguel help him cook again.
IV. Watching movies
Watching movies is another thing he and Miguel have started doing since they moved in together. At first it just felt like an easy way to deal with the awkwardness that still lingered between them; it was something they could do together, but without having to actually interact with one another.
Of course, it became easier and easier to talk to each other the longer they lived together, especially when they realized they have more in common than they thought.
Now sometimes they watch old action movies with his dad - because of course his dad refuses to watch anything else - and when it's the two of them their usual go to's are horror movies and trashy comedies. So, most nights after dinner and when they're done with everything school and karate related, they put on a movie.
It's kind of their thing now. Watching movies and then staying up late talking about it and analyzing everything. Well, unless they - Miguel - are too sleepy and the film analysis gets postponed to next morning during breakfast and on their way to school.
Which is also absolutely fine with Robby because usually when Miguel gets sleepy during a movie, he lies down on the couch with his head on Robby's lap and Robby plays with his hair, which he certainly doesn't have a thing for. It's just really soft and smells very nice, a mix of the shampoo they both use and Miguel's own distinctive scent. And besides, Miguel seems to really like having his hair being played with, so it's basically a win-win kind of situation.
Tonight however surprisingly it's Robby that feels kind of sleepy. They're already almost halfway through the movie so he ignores all the yawning, determined to finish watching before going to sleep-
Only to wake up after God knows how long with his head leaning on Miguel's shoulder while Miguel's head rests on top of his. He mustn't have been sleeping for that long, he guesses, because when he turns his gaze to the TV screen he sees the end credits just started rolling.
He doesn't move just yet, trying to figure out how to get up without waking up Miguel, but he feels himself drifting off again and his eyes flutter closed before he can decide what to do.
When Robby wakes up again, there are faint rays of light coming through the window, which probably means it's morning but still too early for him to have to get up. He doesn't remember going to sleep last night- which makes sense, he realizes moments later, because apparently he fell asleep in the living room. And there's someone lying on the couch with him, an arm wrapped around his waist- oh right, Miguel.
Because instead of watching the movie and going to their bed - well, like they always do that is - they apparently somehow ended up spooning on the couch. He can feel the heat of Miguel's body against his own, which admittedly isn't a bad thing, because of course neither bothered to get a blanket or something.
Their bodies are basically pressed together - the couch isn't even that big, after all - but it's the fact he can feel Miguel's soft breath on the back of his neck, almost like a caress, that makes him realize just how close they are.
And he doesn't panic or anything, but for someone that has just woken up, his heart is probably beating a bit too fast.
He should probably get up and go to his room before Miguel wakes up and this becomes awkward.
"Still too early," Miguel mumbles, his lips slightly brushing against the skin of the back of Robby's neck as he talks. "Go back to sleep," he tells Robby, tightening his arm around him, and it's not like an eloquent argument or anything, but it's honestly more than enough to make Robby give up on his efforts to get up and let himself relax in Miguel's hold. Not that he even really tried to leave. But. Whatever.
V. Getting drunk
Miguel slips the key in the lock and turns it once, twice, before slowly opening the door, both of them making their way inside as quietly as they can.
They've just come home about half an hour ago and it's already quite late, but it's Saturday and neither of them felt like going to sleep.
So, another movie night it is.
Only that they were out of snacks and okay that wasn't such big of a deal, but it was a bit disappointing - it's Saturday! They deserve some snacks - so when Miguel suggested they sneak into his apartment and check what they have there, Robby was quick to agree.
Now they shuffle towards the kitchen, checking the cabinets and the fridge, grabbing whatever draws their attention- Miguel said it's fine, so Robby's decided for once to actually listen to him.
Miguel is now turning to look at him, holding a bottle of tequila in his hands, grinning and raising his eyebrows at him almost in challenge. And well, Robby's usually not a big fan of alcohol, but what the hell. This could be fun.
"Won't your mom notice?" He asks as they head back to their own apartment; mission accomplished.
"Nah. It's my yaya's," Miguel says proudly and Robby can't help grinning. He should have known.
They settle on the couch and put the movie on, snacks and tequila placed on the coffee table.
"I hope you're friendlier this time," Robby says after a little while, voice light and teasing, when Miguel takes his first sip of tequila, before passing the bottle to him- because who wants to be washing glasses later, right?
Miguel frowns at him for a second or two and Robby wonders if perhaps it's still too soon to joke about all that, but Miguel doesn't seem annoyed or angry when he realizes Robby's referring to the previous situations where he, Miguel and alcohol were involved.
"Hey," he says then, looking at Robby with an expression that's probably supposed to be a glare, but it's half-hearted at best and looks more like a pout. It's annoyingly cute. And yeah definitely friendlier, too. Robby just grins at him and brings the bottle to his mouth, grimacing a little as he drinks, feeling the burn in his throat.
They get through maybe fifteen minutes of the movie, before Miguel sighs. "This movie sucks," he says and Robby has to agree with that; they've watched many bad movies but this one is just boring. "Oh! We should play something! Like people do at parties and stuff."
"What, like spin the bottle?" He doesn’t know why it’s the first thing that comes to his mind, but he regrets the words the moment they're out of his mouth, cheeks flushing when Miguel looks at him in confusion.
"I don't think that would work with just two people," Miguel says and Robby nods, because what else is he supposed to do. "Oh, got it," he announces and then his eyebrows burrow together in a skeptical frown for a few seconds before speaking again. "Let's start with something easy. Never have I ever gotten drunk. Well, before tonight, I guess."
Miguel takes a sip and hands the bottle to Robby, probably expecting him to drink, but Robby just shakes his head awkwardly. Miguel looks surprised, but not like he's judging him or anything. Robby still feels like he has to explain himself.
"Not really a big fan of alcohol."
"Oh. But you're drinking now? I mean, you don't have to if you don't wanna."
"No no. It's fine. Really," he says and continues the game before this gets more awkward. "Uhm, never have I ever gotten high."
He drinks and watches in surprise as Miguel sheepishly reaches for the bottle.
"Just one time with my yaya," he explains, before quickly adding, "don't tell my mom."
Robby laughs and nods reassuringly. "Your secret is safe with me."
They continue just like this for a while, just revealing little things to each other. Their weird trip to Mexico was the first and only time both of them have been outside of the US. Neither of them's been on an actual vacation, like staying at hotel and stuff; because, well, money and also because Miguel's mom had to work and Robby's parents- yeah. They agree to go together one day, when they'll have money. It's a nice thought they'll probably both forget by tomorrow, but still nice nonetheless.
Miguel has unsurprisingly never stolen anything - he even brought back the medal of honor Hawk had stolen, so Robby was expecting this - but he has cheated on a school test, at which Robby teases him bad boy, Diaz and gets a fond eye roll in reply. There's no judgment or anything like that in Miguel' expression, when Robby drinks both times.
The questions get a bit more personal as they continue, alcohol loosening their tongues.
Neither has been in an actual relationship that lasted more than a couple of weeks and Miguel doesn't drink at the never have I ever had sex, an awkward little smile forming on his lips. Robby hopes his expression doesn't look weird or judgy or anything like that; it's not like he has a lot more experience, anyway. Thankfully no one drinks at having been caught watching porn by their parents, but Miguel tells him about that time when he had first started karate secretly and was training in his room and his grandma thought he was jerking off and he couldn't even deny it without revealing his secret.
Robby starts laughing and Miguel joins him right away, warm brown eyes shining happily.
And Robby realizes the tequila is definitely doing its work, because what he says next is never have I ever had a crush on a guy, the words slipping out of his mouth without his permission. But they're out there now and he drinks, refusing to back down now.
Miguel reaches for the bottle after a long moment and Robby thinks it's because it's his turn, but Miguel takes a sip, as well, and then shrugs a little and neither says anything about it.
Robby can feel his face burning up though, because he might have just given himself away and he doesn’t want to think about that, so he continues the game even though it isn't even his turn. "Never have I ever finished all the milk and left the carton in the fridge afterwards." It's obviously a very different kind of question than their last ones, but Miguel doesn't call him out on it.
He just laughs and rolls his eyes, the atmosphere immediately turning lighter, and Robby's heart starts slowing down again.
"Come on, it was just one time," Miguel grumbles and reluctantly brings the opening of the bottle to his mouth. Robby smiles at him, even though his mind is stubbornly still on the previous question and the fact that Miguel drank. Obviously it doesn't really mean anything, but it also kind of does.
"We should take a break," he says after a few more questions; they've probably had enough tequila for tonight. Miguel agrees easily, reaching to place the bottle on the table and grabbing his phone.
"Come on, let's take a photo," Miguel says and they do and they definitely don't stop at just one.
They have to move closer to each other first, closing the few inches of distance between them until their sides are pressed together, so they can both fit in the frame of the photo.
Miguel puts a friendly arm around Robby's shoulders at some point and Robby tries not to react to it at all, but he does move a bit closer before he can help himself. And like, that's fine, he can handle this, probably not as well as if he were sober, but it's fine; he's fine.
Only that then Miguel kisses his cheek for one of the pictures and Robby hopes his blush isn't obvious in the selfie, but he also thinks fuck it - and thank you, tequila - and in the next picture he's the one that kisses Miguel's cheek and he can see him smiling on the screen of the phone and that's that. All good. Just buddies being buddies, if one of said buddies had a crush on the other- so, yeah, like he said; it's all good.
They continue for a little while longer, but stay pressed together afterwards as well, so they can look at their pictures.
Thankfully Miguel, who's holding the phone, doesn't linger much on the cheek-kissing photos and Robby doesn't feel too embarrassed about it. Miguel does pause on one of the next ones though, probably their best one so far, studying it for a few seconds.
"Yeah, I really like this one! You're very pretty," he comments then and Robby blinks, not sure he's heard right.
"You think I'm pretty?" He asks before he can stop himself and Miguel shrugs and looks at him like he says duh. And Robby wants to ask more about that or maybe tell him that he thinks Miguel is pretty too and has beautiful eyes and also nice lips and- Miguel speaks before he can say anything.
"Oh no, look at us." He's on the one of the silly pictures they took and they're both absolutely ridiculous, making weird faces, and before Robby knows it, they're both giggling, shoulders bumping together. Robby thinks this might be the most fun he's had in a very long while; or ever.
"You know," Miguel says, once their giggling has died down, "I think we should sleep together." Robby's eyes widen and his mouth falls open and forms a dumb "o", because what the fuck, and it's only then that Miguel seems to realize what he just said. "No, uh, I didn't- I mean we should sleep together tonight, so I can keep an eye on you. You know, because you're drunk."
Oh right. That definitely makes more sense. But also-
"What, no, come on. You are drunk. I'll keep an eye on you," Robby corrects him and Miguel shrugs.
"Fine. I guess we can keep an eye on each other."
And that actually sounds like a good plan. Or maybe a very stupid one. Robby's not sure. His head is nicely fuzzy and he doesn't really want to think about it. He's just happy to follow Miguel into his room, climbing onto the bed and lying down when Miguel does.
He settles on his back and looks at the ceiling, wondering if he’s left enough space between them. Or maybe he should shift away a little? The few times Robby has allowed himself to entertain any of this in his head, there’s admittedly always some cuddling involved, but obviously that’s not really an option right now and he doesn’t want to make this weird for Miguel- and apparently he isn’t as drunk as he thought he was because his brain is still able to overthink everything.
"Hey, Robby," Miguel says, thankfully interrupting his thoughts, and Robby turns to his side, finding brown eyes already looking at him. Miguel looks almost serious now and somehow a lot more sober than he was moments ago. Robby hopes he didn't already regret this. "We're good, right? Like, everything's cool?"
Okay, not exactly what he was expecting.
"Uh, yes, of course. Why?"
Miguel shrugs his shoulder, chewing on his lips- that Robby absolutely doesn't notice. "Nothing. Just. Sometimes you look at me weird? Dunno. It's, whatever, it's stupid."
Oh Shit. If it's that obvious he's really fucked. Especially after that question earlier and-
Fuck.
"It's - I don't... I mean. We're cool. Really."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah."
And Miguel's easy grin is back on his lips, so everything's fine probably. Crisis averted and all. Robby can breathe again.
Or maybe not, because then an arm reaches for him and Miguel draws him closer and basically wraps himself around Robby- and yeah, they're definitely cuddling now. Robby's sure he'll freak out about it in the morning but for now he just lets himself relish this.
"Okay?" Miguel asks, his voice nothing more than a whisper.
"Mhm," he hums and settles his head on Miguel's shoulder, nuzzling his neck. "Perfect," he adds some seconds later, but Miguel's breathing is already slow and even and probably doesn't hear him. It doesn't take Robby long to drift off to sleep, as well.
V + I. Kissing
Robby expects things between them to change after that night, even though he's not sure exactly how. Mostly he fears that Miguel will realize certain things and maybe pull away, keep his distance from Robby, but that doesn't happen.
So yes, nothing changes, but not everything is the same either.
Because now Robby knows a few things that he didn't before that night:
1. Miguel has had a crush on a guy before (maybe even has one now? Who the fuck knows)
2. Miguel thinks he's pretty
3. Miguel likes cuddling (Miguel likes cuddling with him? Maybe)
None of those really changes anything, but Robby still can't stop thinking about them.
And even though nothing seems to be different, sometimes Robby thinks there's been a lingering tension between them since then. But it might just be all in his head. Wishful thinking or something. After all, they've never spoken about it, so he can't know for sure.
The only thing he can be certain about is that Miguel doesn't feel uncomfortable around him or something like that, because they're still as close as they were, if not even more. Because the casual touches between haven’t stopped, if anything they seem to happen more often, especially when they're home just the two of them; Miguel's arm finding its way to the back of the couch and around Robby's shoulders during movie nights, Robby's fingers in Miguel's hair caressing it, Miguel's hand on the small of his back when he walks past him in the small space of the kitchen, the fact they somehow stick to each other's side even in rooms full of other people. It all feels natural; right.
He's drawn out of his thoughts when he sees Miguel standing at the doorframe of his room, not having heard him getting in the apartment. He was out, hanging out with Hawk and Dimitri. Robby was invited, too, - they're all friends now - but he was feeling like staying at home today. So he worked out, read for a bit and even cooked; not to brag or anything but he's getting pretty good at it. Or at least that's what Miguel keeps telling him.
Now he takes his headphones off, his lips turning upwards into a smile, mirroring the one on Miguel's lips. "You're back early," he says - hopes he doesn't sound too happy about it, like Miguel can't hang out with friends that aren't him or something - and shifts on the bed, making room for Miguel to sit.
Miguel shrugs in reply and accepts the invitation, Robby's knee brushing against his thigh as he takes a seat. "The guys told me to tell you you should have come. They also said they're surprised I went without you," he says, rolling his eyes, looking and sounding quite unimpressed.
"What- It’s not like we go everywhere together!"
"I know! That's what I told them," Miguel agrees and they fall silent right after, probably both of them realizing that perhaps they kind of do that.
Oh well.
"Anyway. What'd you do?" Miguel asks, thankfully speaking before the silence gets awkward.
"Nothing much. Did some reading. Also found a couple of movies we can watch next. Oh and I cooked! There's food in the kitchen if you're hungry," he says and Miguel's whole face lights up; no surprise there, he's always hungry.
"You're amazing," Miguel tells him and maybe he's like really hungry, starving even, because who the fuck just says things like that? Robby feels his whole face heat up a little at the words. "Thanks," Miguel says and moves to get up, but he's also leaning closer, and suddenly Robby's being kissed. It's just a quick press of lips, almost casual, like they do this all the time.
Miguel only seems to realize what he's done when he pulls away, dark eyes going wide, which is pretty much how Robby is looking at him right now, as well. "Uh-" Miguel says and neither has really moved away yet, their faces still a bit too close.
Before he can think better of it - and before Miguel has any time to actually pull away from him - Robby draws him back in, pressing their lips together. This is more of a kiss than the previous one, their lips hesitantly moving together, but it still ends way too soon for Robby's liking. Especially because not kissing Miguel means having to look at him and Robby feels a lot more unsure about kissing him now than he was when he decided to do it, even though he could definitely feel Miguel kissing him back.
"Was that okay?" He asks and Miguel starts nodding his head before he even finishes talking.
"Yeah, definitely. More than okay."
And they're both smiling now but still no one is moving and the pause probably lasts like two seconds but feels like fucking ages before they're kissing again, both of them reaching for each other.
There's no hesitation this time as their lips touch. Their bodies turn eagerly towards each other and Robby brings his hand to the back of Miguel's head, threading his fingers through the soft, dark curls. He makes a pleased, quiet sound before he can stop himself, when Miguel's hand cups the side of his neck, stroking Robby's jaw with his thumb.
Miguel shifts even closer to him, the knee of Robby's folded leg slightly digging into his thigh, but neither seems to mind, clearly focused elsewhere. Robby brushes his tongue against Miguel's lower lip, both teasing and asking for permission, and Miguel parts his lips, lets Robby deepen the kiss and lick into his mouth.
He's sure now he could do this forever, just him and Miguel and their lips pressed together, but he also feels like the proximity isn't enough; he wants more and decides to make it happen. He unfolds one of his legs and moves it over Miguel's thighs, so he can maneuver them on the bed until Miguel's lying on his back and Robby's straddling his lap.
Miguel makes a surprised sound but he doesn't seem to have any complaints about it, happily welcoming Robby's lips against his own right after. Miguel's hands are on his lower back now, fingers caressing the exposed skin there thanks to his shirt that has ridden up. It's almost too much, sending shivers up Robby's spine and making him arch his body into the touch.
They continue like this for a while, just kissing, relishing the feeling of their lips and bodies pressed together, until Robby suddenly remembers-
"Hey," he says, reluctantly pulling away from the kiss, feeling slightly breathless. "What about the food..." He trails off, grimacing a little because that sounds kind of stupid now that he said it out loud, but Miguel seemed to be pretty hungry earlier, so.
Miguel blinks up at him, like he's still processing what Robby has just said, and then a startled laugh escapes him. "I can eat later," Miguel reassures him and he sounds and looks at him all fond and smiley and then they're kissing again, Robby crashing their lips together, not wanting to waste any more time.
Robby's a bit too busy enjoying the feeling of Miguel's mouth and hands on him that he doesn't see it coming, and he lets out a soft gasp when Miguel flips them around and he finds himself lying on his back.
Miguel's hovering over him and there's a smug, teasing grin on his face that reminds Robby of the look he gets when they're training just the two of them and Miguel gets the upper hand. Usually Robby's amused but also determined to change that and he could easily do that now; Miguel has his wrists pinned down to the mattress, but Robby can still just wrap his legs around his waist and flip them back around if he wants. Perhaps Miguel just knows that he won't.
He doesn't get to think about any of that for much longer because Miguel is kissing him again and lowering himself over Robby, letting go of one of his wrist so he can cup the side of Robby's face. And, yeah, that's really fucking nice. Why the fuck haven’t been doing this all this time? So stupid.
Their hands find their way under each other's shirts not long after and perhaps that's even nicer, Robby thinks, as he feels Miguel's palm traveling up his side. The stupid shirt gets in the way, though, so he might as well take it off, right, and Miguel must be thinking the same thing because they both pull away at the same time, reaching to remove their shirts off. They're almost completely in sync as they move and they just look at each other afterwards and then they're laughing and it's all a bit awkward but also awesome and Robby wouldn't change a thing.
Their laughter dies when Miguel leans down again, the skin to skin contact startling but definitely welcome. This time their hands can move freely and it's simultaneously too much and not enough and Robby never wants it to stop.
Miguel licks deep into his mouth and Robby sucks on his tongue, his hands traveling all over Miguel's back, feeling a bit greedy and desperate to touch everything he can. He's been imagining this for quite a while now, after all, so he lets him relish it as much as he can, not surprised that it all feels so much better than he thought it would.
He feels a bit lost in all of this, trying to savor everything, and he rocks his hips up against Miguel without meaning to. He just freezes for a moment, staying completely still and hoping he didn't fuck up, but Miguel gasps and makes a pleased sound and just kisses him harder. So Robby does it again, more purposefully this time, the noises that escape both of them dying at each other's lips.
He buries his hand in Miguel's hair, his grip a little desperate now, and wraps his legs around his waist, bringing their bodies flush together. Miguel moans approvingly into his mouth and starts moving too, their hips rocking in sync, until they're properly grinding against one another.
And they're kind of flying blind right now, experience-wise, but it all feels really, really good, so they probably can't be doing anything wrong. He brings his free hand between their bodies and cups Miguel over his pants, slightly squeezing, before slipping it inside, encouraged by the low, pleased sound coming from Miguel.
Miguel seems happy to follow his lead and does the same, the heat low in Robby's belly instantly getting more intense when Miguel touches him, wrapping his fingers around him. Their movements are a bit uncoordinated but enthusiastic, the only sounds in the room being their heavy breathing and slick noises of their kisses that have turned messy and sloppy and it's all more perfect than Robby could ever imagine.
Miguel’s mouth drifts down to his jaw and then even lower to his neck, kissing and licking at the sensitive skin there and Robby moans, knowing it won’t take much to drive him over the edge.
They finish almost simultaneously soon after and Robby would love it to have lasted longer, but he knew it was a lost cause from the beginning. He bites back a whine when Miguel pulls away, already missing the weight and warmth of his body against his own. Miguel reaches for some tissues from Robby's nightstand, cleaning them both so they're not a complete mess - Robby mumbles a thanks and gets a cute, little smile in reply - before collapsing next to him.
Robby doesn’t know what exactly he’s supposes to do now, but he refuses to let the silence stretch between them for any second longer than necessary, so he props himself up on his elbow, turning to look at Miguel and smiling when he meets his eyes.
"Nice hair," he teases, even though it's not actually a lie. It does look completely disheveled, but somehow it's still pretty.
Miguel rolls his eyes, but the wide grin on his face gives him away, making him look fond and amused and generally content. "Yeah, who made it a mess?"
Robby smirks at him, not being sorry in the slightest. And Miguel clearly doesn't mind either, because he brings his hand on the back of Robby's neck, pulling him down for a brief kiss.
"So," Miguel says when they break the kiss, looking at him a bit expectantly, only that Robby doesn't really know what to say now and he doesn't want to fuck up so he decides to leave it to Miguel.
"So," he repeats.
"Was that a one time thing?"
"No?" Robby replies, maybe too quickly, but he feels less certain about his answer a second later. "I mean, I don't know, do you want it to be?"
"This is so awkward," Miguel says, his cheeks slightly darkening with a flush, sounding as helpless as Robby feels. And they both start laughing then and it's absolutely ridiculous, because they kind of suck at this, but at least they seem to be more relaxed afterwards. "I don't want it to be a one time thing," Miguel tells him once they've stopped laughing and Robby doesn't even try to hide the relief he feels.
"Yeah, me neither."
"Cool."
Robby nods in reply and they both fall silent again and they should really do something about that-
"Wanna watch a movie later?" Miguel asks and Robby can't help grinning, because this is familiar and it's theirs and it means that some things can still be the same after this. "And, uh, maybe make out some more?"
Robby laughs, a bit startled, not expecting this but definitely being on board. "Hell yeah!" He agrees and leans in for another kiss, just because he can.
Having a roommate turned out to be a much better idea than he had thought; perhaps Miguel’s grandma was onto something!
