Work Text:

It was simple. A bank robbery, a few hostages and a stand off with cops while his team infiltrated the building to catch the criminals by surprise. Simple. But even simple plans can become complicated, and so it is that Shouta is now sitting in the office of renowned investigator Toshinori Yagi instead of typing up a successful report at the local police station.

Yagi's secretary - Shouta recognises her from the academy - sits next to the tall man, jotting down every word out of her boss' mouth. Yagi asks Shouta about the morning's events and the younger man answers; Yagi repeats it back to him, word for word, and she writes it down. Occasionally his answers are long and her eyes will stray around the office, and Shouta tries to shake off the feeling of being ignored when she only puts pen to paper once the blond confirms his words.

Eventually the questioning comes to an end and Yagi thanks her - Nemuri, he remembers - for her help and accepts her offer of tea. The fact that she only brings one cup doesn't go unnoticed by Shouta and he finds himself staring at the pale porcelain until the door locks into place and he is once again left alone with the older man.

Yagi's face has a clearly apologetic look as he taps softly on the teacup and Shouta barely stops himself from scoffing at the man's irrationality, "Don't deprive yourself on my account."

"My apologies."

Shouta looks up and considers the possibility that Yagi is apologising for more than his lack of tea. Which would be highly illogical. It hits him, however, that Yagi is the most illogical man he has ever crossed paths with. In the end that is also why he is the only man who can help him in his current situation.

His attention is once more caught by the clinking of ceramic as Yagi puts the cup down and gets up resolutely. All uncertainty is gone from his features, replaced completely by a sunny and confident smile. Shouta has seen this before, every time Yagi is with a client. He has always been critical of it, of the older man's habit of making promises that he couldn't possibly be certain of keeping, but right now Shouta can't help but admit that it is incredibly reassuring.

"I promise you I'll find your murderer, Aizawa-kun."
