Work Text:
Enough is enough.
It’s been so long since you and Tsumugi have actually had a moment to yourselves, him being fixated on his work at ES Square. You can’t blame him, but if he keeps it up, he’ll burn himself out quickly.
Well, his dedication is admirable , you huff to yourself.
However, you need his attention, and desperately. Your days are so boring without him by your side! …Granted, you have work to do yourself with your unit.
But ever since he’s gotten into this mindset, your once shared dinners turn to just dinners by yourself, your walks and outings void of his presence. It’s lonely. You stare down at your plate of food, sitting alone once again at your dinner table. The only noise throughout your apartment is the clinking of silverware against the plate and your mindless chewing.
It’s too lonely.
With that, you lose your appetite and put your leftovers in the fridge before tucking yourself into bed. Your mood sours even more once you turn on your phone, seeing no text message from the boy you love so much. Frowning to yourself, you decide that tomorrow you’ll do something about it.
You sleep the rest of your negative emotions away, waking up in the morning and feeling slightly refreshed once you realise you have a notification in your text messages. Opening your phone to your favourite blue-haired boy’s conversations, you read his text.
tsumi<3: good morning :)
y/n: good morning!!
tsumi<3: sleep well?
y/n: i slept okay. hbu? also, can i see u today
Left on delivered.
Ouch.
Oh well, he must’ve gotten caught up in something again. No matter his response, you’re seeing him whether he likes it or not.
After getting dressed and ready for the day, you make your way to ES Square and come across Tsumugi discussing something with Anzu on the main floor of the building, right outside the elevators.
“Tsumi!” You exclaim once you walk through the front doors. Both him and Anzu turn to you, a smile making its way on his face.
“Y/N!” He says, taking you in his arms to give you a friendly hug. “It’s nice seeing you.” He mutters into your hair.
“You too.” You step away from him to greet the brunette standing next to him, her politely saying hello. Anzu mentions something about having to check in with another unit and sets off, leaving you two alone, waiting for the elevator.
Now is the perfect chance to talk to him about this.
“Hey-” You start to talk, but the elevator arrives and he walks in with you in tow.
“-Sorry, what floor are you going to?” Tsumugi asks.
“Oh. Um, sixth, please.”
He presses your floor then his own before then turns to face you again. “As you were saying.” He smiles so sweetly at you that you nearly forget what you were going to say, but then you remember.
“Right! Listen, I-”
The elevator stops at the second floor and lets someone in. You stop talking, feeling like this is a conversation reserved for just the both of you. You’re starting to get annoyed - how hard is it to have a simple conversation with him?! The person gets off at the fifth floor, and you wait for the doors to fully close before you turn to talk to him.
“ Lord help me,” you mutter underneath your breath.
“Are you okay?” Tsumugi gives you that sickeningly sweet tone and you nearly want to melt into the ground.
“Yes, I’m fine. Thank you.” You smile at him. If it weren’t for the elevator’s lighting, you could have noticed a slight blushing painting his cheeks. “As I was saying, I-”
Ding!
Sixth floor. The elevator’s robotic voice says.
Ohmygodyou’refuckingkiddingme-
“Hey, isn’t this your floor?” He asks.
“Yes.” You say through gritted teeth. Well, so much for having a conversation. However, before you completely walk off, you stop halfway through the door. “Screw this.”
Tsumugi is about to ask you what’s wrong before you turn to him with a frown on your face, and you start spewing your feelings at him.
“Listen, you’ve been really busy and it kinda hurts not being able to see you anymore!” You exclaim, talking so quickly that he can barely catch what you’re saying. However, your next words are abundantly clear. “And I’ve had enough of this- so, I’m claiming you!” You flick his forehead before storming off, and he swears he feels something where you touched him but your last words to him are burning in his mind.
The elevator doors close and his glasses nearly slip off his face when the words finally register in his brain.
“ Claim?!” Tsumugi’s face turns beet red and his hands come up to touch his cheeks, which feel like they’re nearly burning. “Surely she doesn’t mean…”
But what if she does?!
Claiming… him. You want to claim him.
A thousand scenarios run through his head and he nearly misses his stop on the elevator, quickly walking out and towards Switch’s practice room.
He doesn’t even notice Natsume waiting at the door for him as he thinks of you sitting on his lap, leaving love marks all over him as his hands settle on your waist. His mind is filled with dirty thoughts of you and him and he’s only drawn out of that corner of his brain as Natsume snaps his fingers in front of his face.
“Hey, earth-to-idiot hERE. What’s wrong with YOU?” The red-headed man questions him.
“Uh, no-nothing!” He stutters, pushing his glasses back up onto the bridge of his nose. “Let’s just get to work, please. ”
Natsume arches a brow and stares at him for longer than usual but nods anyway, opening the door to Sora already inside and waiting patiently for them.
“Hello!” The blonde greets them both, smiling brightly as usual. A confused look flashes across his face before he looks directly at Tsumugi. “Tsumugi, Sora sees a really weird colour around you!”
Crap, Natsume is definitely gonna make fun of him for this.
“Please don’t, Sora.” The man with the glasses begs.
“It’s like…”
“Please.”
“Red and pink! But like, super red!”
Natsume smirks and Tsumugi immediately knows he’s done for. He covers his face out of embarrassment, and the red-headed magician starts teasing him.
“Ooh, were you around Y/N aGAIN? You always seem so hAPPY and bright around hER. I wonder what happened tODAY, did you finally confess to hER?” He chuckles.
Tsumugi runs his hands through his hair and groans, and Natsume pauses for a second.
“Hm? What’s tHIS?” His hand brushes the blue-haired man’s bangs out of his face and then breaks out into an evil smile.
“What? What is it?!” He frantically questions him.
“NothING, don’t worry about IT. Just a red spot on your foreHEAD, is aLL.”
Tsumugi brushes it off - after all, you did flick his forehead pretty hard. Moving all the thoughts to the back of his brain, Switch finally gets to work.
Hours later, Tsumugi thinks he’s finally had enough of work. What you told him earlier (besides the whole… claiming thing) finally clicked in his brain halfway through practice. You were right, he’s working way too much and he misses you and your dinners together.
He takes out his phone once Natsume and Sora head off, and decides to text you.
tsumi<3: dinner? together?
y/n: OMG
y/n: yes pls. i’ll make pancakes :3
Well, that’s always a winner with him. He smiles to himself - he can’t wait to see you again.
But then, the situation hits him all over again.
Are you going to claim him once he walks through your door? What if you leave marks that he can’t cover up?! Will this whole claiming thing make your already-complicated friendship even more complicated? What if you make fun of his feelings for you?!
Ugh, overthinking isn’t gonna help anything.
Maybe he can finally confess to you tonight. Maybe this is the push he needed all along.
Tsumugi arrives at your apartment not too long after, nervously knocking at your door. You open up with a big smile on your face, the smell of pancakes and maple syrup wafting throughout your home - and just like that, it feels like all his nervousness evaporates.
“C’mon in, I have the pancakes ready already! Hope you like breakfast for dinner.”
Your dinner is spent in silence that borders on awkward. You’re sitting right across from Tsumugi, enjoying your dinner while also giving him concerned glances - he hasn’t spoken ever since he took his first bite… did you mess up the batter somehow?
Well, might as well speak up.
“Hey, is everything oka-”
“ Did you want to have sex? ” Tsumugi interrupts you halfway through your sentence. His words come out quickly but you somehow understand him. Your brain short-circuits as you give him a dead-pan look before your face goes as red as a tomato.
“ WHAT?! ” You exclaim, dropping your fork and knife on your half-finished plate of pancakes.
“Earlier- well, you said- you wanted to claim me…?” He stutters out, trailing off at the end of his sentence.
Oh, oh my god.
This entire time, he thought…?
Well - it does sound… suggestive.
“Oh my god, we’re both idiots.” You say after a moment of the loudest silence you’ve ever experienced. “Here, come here.” You get up and he hesitantly follows.
Wait, are you bringing him to your room?! He was right all along, you’re-
You grab his arms and drag him in front of your mirror, gently lifting his bangs to expose his forehead, which had a big, pink heart-shaped sticker smacked right in the middle of it. Tsumugi squints and notices handwriting - your handwriting - on it, reading your name written on it.
“This- this is, uh, what I meant. When I said… claiming you.” You say, and your face is still red. Well, at least you two match. “I thought that people would stop asking you stuff if I let people know that I wanted to have you - at least for a day.”
“Oh my god, we are idiots.” He says, a shaky smile making its way on his face. You look at each other in the mirror for a moment before bursting out into laughter, nearly doubling over from the absurdity of the entire conversation.
After a few minutes, you both eventually calm down and you lead him to sit on your bed.
“But I was being serious earlier,” You start to talk. “You need to get a decent break, your body and your mind need it. If you keep this up you’ll burn yourself out and feel like crap.”
“I know. I realised it halfway through practice with Switch. Thank you for this, by the way.”
“Of course, you’re my friend, I care about you.” You look down at your hands as you say this, a blush dusting your cheeks.
Tsumugi thinks to himself that now is his chance to tell you about his feelings. There’s no better time than now.
But how is he going to vocalise his feelings?
“Um… but, I wouldn’t mind if you… actually claimed me.”
What.
You both stare at each other, him looking like he’s shocked at his own words. He begs in his mind for the ground to swallow him whole until you gently grasp his hands, looking deeply into his eyes.
“I wouldn’t mind if you claimed me either.”
The next day, Natsume nearly screams his head off seeing Tsumugi’s and your necks.
