Chapter Text
02/01/2000,
It was early January when Kyo began to leave the house at sunrise, occasionally skipping classes and coming home late in the afternoon. The Sohma's dismissed the odd routines and figured it was Kyo being Kyo, while Tohru noticed it and questioned him out of concern. Kyo reassured her he was okay and told her not to worry. Kyo had been working multiple jobs to earn money, he was going to leave the country before graduation. He wasn't going to the cage. Saving up every cent for a plane ticket to escape the fate ahead. It was his secret though, only Tohru knew. If he told anyone else, word would get to the Sohma's and soon, Akito would know. Thank God, Tohru could keep a secret. She even offered to give him money by splitting her paychecks, of course, Kyo objected. She was too sweet.
At the start of February when Kyo made a plan to where he was going, the closest countries to Japan were Russia and South Korea which means plane tickets would be a lot cheaper. As beneficial as it was to go to one of the closest countries, he couldn't ease the paranoia that followed him. He should pick somewhere where they wouldn't look. While looking at his options, fortunately, tickets were cheap to travel to the middle east rather than other international locations. He made a decision and it was set: He was going to Egypt. Considering the main language in Egypt was Arabic, Kyo decided to learn the language, at least the basics of it, he managed to find a translation book; Japanese to Arabic.
As soon as March began, Kyo was gone. To avoid suspicion from any of the Sohmas, he left in the middle of the night, before that, however, he made sure to leave a note for Tohru, thanking her for all she did for him and wishing her good life. Kyo packed his backpack with essentials and sneaked out of the house, with his phone in his hand and the torchlight that was eliminated from it, he wandered through the forest in search of the city. The dead silence added more anticipation and thrill with every step he took. His ears pricked up at the sound of his footsteps trod on grass and sticks and the insects that flew around at night. His breath was shallow as his eyes darted from side to side, he stayed alert. He thought over this plan a lot and knew he was safe to escape, but dread found its way back into his mind, anxiety clung to him, screaming at him that at any moment he could get caught... The Sohmas would talk about it... Akito would be notified... Who knows what would happen then?
A small smile spread across his lips as his torchlight was out shunned by the street lamps and the view of a lonely street with some cars passing by came could be seen. He turned off the torch on his phone and continued to walk to the airport, it was a bit far but Kyo could easily walk there in a short amount of time. If worse comes to worst, he can run, he enjoys exercise anyway. Luckily, he arrived at the airport as it started to rain, he made his way through security and slumped down in a chair at the airport lounge. He checked the time: 3:15 AM, he had a while before his plane comes, after a short break, he bought some food and studied the translation book again. 40 minutes later, flight attendants were allowing the passengers to board the plane. Once boarded, he sat down in his seat and observed, that there didn't seem to be many passengers and, surprisingly, no crying kids. Thank God! He rested his head back as the flight attendants demonstrated safety procedures. Soon, the captain announced they were about to take off and Kyo held in a breath. The static-like noise from the plane became louder and Kyo could feel the aircraft moving, he let out a sigh of relief. He almost cried. The anxiety is gone, now he was free, and the cat was free. Fatigue caught up to him as he let his eyes close and himself rest.
"You're free... I'm so proud of you, cat!" A powerful female voice rang out in Kyo's mind. "Come back to me!"
