Chapter Text
"Woah, bro. What’s going on, are you ok? What did the baby tree do to you? Was it being sappy?" Jin asked while taking a few quick steps towards Namjoon when he saw him pulling the leaves off of the long hedge by the angry handful. Jin started patting Joon’s back.
"Do you need somebody to talk to or do you want me to leaf you alone? You look stumped, though."
Namjoon forced his hands to open, letting all the little crushed leaves fall from his green stained palms.
"We lost another debate." Joon said more to himself than to Jin.
"Yeah, you did. Kook did terrible again; he’s always been so quick and witty. It looked like he had a cold sweat going through him today, like when that big kid in second grade squeezed the banana milk carton in Kook's hand and it burst all over him on picture day."
The memory helps calm Joon down. He flashes a small smile at least. "I'm not mad at HIM though… I was worried he might have been going through something that I didn't know about but it’s not that. I'm pissed cuz I figured it out why Kook’s freezing up there. It’s Yoongi! He’s making my Kookie nervous."
Joon finally turned, looking up to Jin’s face, wiping his green hands down the front of Jin's shirt.
Jungkook really has been doing great since the beginning of the year. Namjoon was in awe of how quick and clear he was during their debates, but now with these last few losses, they might not be able to qualify for the state finals. Trying to calm Jungkook, Namjoon gave him some firm shoulder squeezes to relieve his obvious nerves before the day's debate. Yes, it was an excuse to touch Jungkook’s shoulders and tell him nice things as close to his ear as Joon had ever gotten. He had thought that his gestures had actually helped relax Jungkook, until the opposing team reached the stage and sat down. Joon saw Kook’s pretty face flush from pink to red to sweaty in seconds, all while he was trying not to look at Yoongi.
