Work Text:

The night was dark and thick, shadows swaying like wet ink on a page, the poet having abandoned his work. Stars were a rarity as the piercing yellow light of the streetlamps filled the night all the way into the sky. The once bustling city street dead in the silence.

However, in the darkness, two figures could be seen trudging through the snow. Well - it seemed more like one figure as one of the two people were hoisted onto the other's back.

The one walking was Moth. Somewhat tall, spiky black hair that was fried to death and back with every cheap hair product you could think of, and a warm, pine green jacket over his torso that protected him from the cold winter night. On his back was a knocked-out Alex - the blue alien with curly orange hair that he couldn't bring himself to leave at the party. Partially because he knew the disguise was wearing would wear off through the night but mostly because Alex would absolutely get lost in the city's maze of roads.

Not worrying about anybody potentially spotting the two, Moth had deactivated the alien's disguise to take him back to their apartment and - of course just because Alex would probably be cold - given him the blue jumper he loved so much.

Each step on the pavement warranted a satisfying crunch from the snow below the two. Even though Alex was fast asleep, draped over the human, Moth was still awake and taking in the serenity the city presented deep into the night. The way the untouched snow ahead of them glistened and sparkled with an orange hue from the streetlights made Moth feel a way he had never before. Although he has walked these streets countless times on his way to and from work, he's never stopped to take in how strangely beautiful the city was. Maybe it was because he was helping an alien see Earth for the first time that he was actually SEEING Earth for the first time. Maybe he needed to appreciate the little things around him more.

Then Alex moved in his sleep, adjusting in a way that would have made him fall if Moth hadn't been snapped out of his contemplative state any later. Stumbling slightly, Moth readjusted his stance to accommodate the alien's new position and slowly shifted him back into the position he was in before. Sighing and smiling at the awesome save that nobody saw, Moth continued on his way home with Alex on his back who was holding on slightly tighter than before.
