This is (in part) a self-indulgent dive into leather and M/s culture. To me, the found family trope resonates strongly with Aleksander and Alina, and with the Grisha as a whole.

Leather has huge variety depending on age, region, subculture, etc. This depiction is not meant to be representative of all aspects, it’s just based on my own experiences. I'll do my best to explain things through Alina's POV as she learns, but if you have questions, please feel free to ask!

Leather families are groups of people who choose to associate with one another and organize themselves around values important to the leather community like service and education. Sometimes members are in romantic or kink relationships with one another and sometimes they identify as chosen family. They have varying levels of protocol.
