"So, this is where you spent your vacations as a child?" commented Mycroft, walking beside him and holding his hand.
"That's it," Greg replied, "I haven't been here in ages! But I write and phone my grandmother often."
Mycroft looked around at the small village. He imagined a mini Greg running through the surrounding orchards, or playing in the streets.
They finally arrived at a small house. Greg stood in front of it for a few moments before turning to Mycroft. "I have to tell you, I'm not entirely sure how she's going to react to... us? She's not the old-fashioned type, but I didn't tell her I had someone in my life, let alone that it was a man. I don't want to hide you, but I'd like to break it to her gently, if you don't mind."
Mycroft smiled gently at Greg, squeezed his hand and said softly, "I understand, don’t worry."
Greg squeezed his hand back then let go of it to knock on the door. The door quickly opened to reveal an older, rather portly woman. Her face immediately lit up when she saw who was at the door. "My little Greg!"
She squeezed Greg so tightly that she almost lifted him off the ground under Mycroft's amused smile.
"Grandma, maybe you can let go of me and let me breathe."
"You little cheeky one, you only visit me once a year so I have to take advantage of it!"
Then she turned to Mycroft, "You must be Mycroft, his fiancé?"
Both men froze in shock, at a loss for words. Finally, Greg stammered out a "Excuse me?"
"What?"
"Fiancé?"
Greg's grandmother looked confused, "...What? Isn't that how they say it?"
"But how do you know we're...together?"
His grandmother snickered, "Mycroft-this... Mycroft-that... not a phone call or letter without you mentioning it, not to mention the fact that Mrs. Wedgwood, who lives at the entrance to the village, was quick to call me to inform me that my grandson was walking down the street holding a man's hand. Like that's something that would offend me. Stupid woman."
Then realizing something, she put her hands on her hips and exclaimed, "Wait, you didn't want to tell me?!"
Greg put his hand on her forearm and said in a soothing tone, "Of course I wanted to, I just didn't know how to tell you."
She took his hand in hers, "Greg, my little boy, I only want you to be happy, I've been praying for you; For you to find someone worthy of you, someone you love and who loves you. That's all that matters to me, the rest is irrelevant. And when I see your happy face and the way he looks at you, I know my prayers have been answered."
Greg kissed his grandmother's cheek, "I love you grandma." Then he took Mycroft's hand in his and brought it to his lips, before saying in a soft, firm tone, "Mycroft makes me very happy."
Mycroft bowed to Greg's grandmother and stated, "I promise to take care of Greg."
Greg's grandmother glanced at him with a knowing look, "I'm sure you will." Then she stepped between them and led them into the house saying, "Wonderful, Mycroft! I finally have someone to tell about Greg's shenanigans!"
The door closed to Mycroft's laughter and Greg's cry, "Grandma, no!"
