Step inside

Summary:

There are a few lines one simply can't cross in life, and crushing on your stepbrother is one of them.....isn't it?

Maybe.... probably?

Or, Taehyung found himself in a bit of a situation when he gained a much younger stepbrother.
Truth be told, he wasn't expecting him to be so....pretty.

Chapter Text

Twenty-three year old Kim Taehyung lives with his mother in Jimyo-dong, located in a little town outside of Daegu city.

He goes to college, has a few close friends he'd do anything for, hates math, and is always up for some fun. All in all, a pretty average life.
He is also incredibly handsome, so he's told, and can be quite charming when he wants to be.
Loads of girls and boys fawn over him everyday, and he can't lie, he definitely likes the attention.

Taehyung is not one to care much about gender, and will go for anyone he finds attractive and gets along with.
He's been with both men and women and has enjoyed either.

His mother Eunji is a hair stylist, working for a big kpop company, making sure all the groups have amazing hair for their tours, award shows, interviews and such, but because of that, she isn't at home as much as she'd like.
Still, she loves her job and gets to know a lot of nice people.

Taehyung's father left without a trace when he was just four years old and since then, he had gotten used to not having a permanent male figure growing up, and therefore became very content just living with his mom.
When he was younger his grandmother would look after him while his mom had to travel for work, however, now he has been living by himself for years and definitely enjoys that way too much.

He has his friends over a lot, drinks, invites hookups or dates over, smokes pot, plays countless videogames and still manages to somehow clean the place up and do his laundry. Fully functional bachelor pad.

All fun and games until his whole life took an unexpected turn.

It was on the thirteenth of June when he was introduced to Jeon Hyun.

His mom came home with a man, and while Taehyung was totally fine with that, since he just wants her to be happy, there was something different about this guy.
He was much closer to her than any other guys she'd been with and he could just tell that she was completely gone for him.

All of them sat at the dinner table that evening and it definitely was a little awkward.
They both just kept making eyes at each other, laughing about work related stories, while Taehyung's eyes went back and forth between them, fully expecting a proper introduction at some point.

They're allowed to be smitten with each other, Taehyung supposed and who was he to intrude in their bubble.

As far as introductions go, he wasn't expecting one quite like this.

"I would like to formally introduce myself. My name is Jeon Hyun and I work as a choreographer for kpop groups.
I got to know your mom on a 'GOT7' tour about two years ago and ever since, we kept running into each other over the course of a few months. ..One thing led to another and now we've been together for about a year and a half and we couldn't be happier.
..I have a son called Jeon Jungkook who just turned eighteen last month and is attending his last year of highschool.
He's got really good grades and is very well behaved."
He finished proudly, just looking at Taehyung expectantly.

"Sounds great..." Taehyung nodded, being a little disengaging and not really putting in any effort to seem genuinely interested.

It wasn't that Taehyung was an asshole, he's just not used to being so chatty with his mom's boyfriend's.
Hell, even having dinner together like this is unusual, which was a nother reason for him to be suspicious about Hyun.

"..Wait-...a year and a half?..as in 365 days plus.. the half?" He put down his fork, clearly in no mood to do any sort of calculations right now.

"Could you please be polite and introduce yourself to Hyun?" Eunji smiled with her teeth clenched, a little worried about how Taehyung was taking this.

"Hi, I'm Taehyung, and before I get into my very exciting life story, may I ask you a few questions?" He inquired with a bit of an attitude, kind of knowing exactly where this conversation was heading. His mom didn't look pleased at all.

"Of course, Taehyung." Hyun responded, gently.

Taehyung looked at his mom and then back to Hyun.
"Why did I not know about this serious relationship sooner?"
Thing is, Taehyung is incredibly protective over his mother, and it has always been just them.
Very few men actually made it to the house to be introduced.

"Your mother and I thought it would be a better idea to wait a little before we move forward with telling you.
You just never know if a relationship will last past the first few months, and so we just wanted to be sure.
..Sorry if this was poor judgement on our part."

Taehyung's mom looked at Hyun and held his hand that was on the table.
"Honey, we are having this dinner because we want to tell you that we're engaged and will be getting married.
The date is still not set in stone, but we hope that you can accept this.
..We will be out working most of the time, like usual, so the only change will be that you will get a lovely younger stepbrother as a companion. He's truly so swee-"

Taehyung got up abruptly, bowed and mumbled,
"-congratulations, I can't wait" and slowly left the dining room.

"I'm so sorry, I have no idea what's gotten into him. He isn't-"

"-It's ok. This is normal." Hyun assured. "We just told him that he's getting a stepfather and brother, that can't be easy to digest. Jungkook is still processing this too.....plus, I like him,
he seems to be very protective over you.. Good kid!" Hyun is a great person and has such care for things that matter to him the most.

Taehyung sat on the edge of his bed, staring at an empty space on the wall in front of him.
It wasn't that he was mad or upset, quite the opposite, he was happy for his mom and that she was no longer lonely.
She deserves this and he would never make her feel like she doesn't.

He's annoyed that he'll have to share his space with some random kid. What will that mean for his life?
No more pot, no more drinks? ..No more hot sex whenever and wherever he wants? ...this is going to be a nightmare, he thought.
Needless to say that goodie goodie Jungkook would be the type to tell mommy and daddy immediately.
Not that his mom doesn't know about his life style, but she'll most likely side with the younger instinctively, and put an end to it all.

He needed a drink and a friend, so he headed to his neighbor's house.

Jin has been his friend for many years, basically ever since Taehyung and his mom moved in when he was fourteen.
Since then, they have shared everything with each other. Nothing was TMI.

"Dude, who cares? So you have some younger bro staying with you, big deal. I'm sure he'll stick to himself anyway..
Based on what little you know of him, it sounds like he's a good kid that follows all the rules and probably falls asleep with a math book in his arms. I wouldn't worry about this." Jin chortled at his own words, knowing they'd piss off Taehyung even more, as he took a sip of his beer.

They were sitting on the carpet in his room, leaning against the side of his bed and having beer while bitching about life.

Jin inherited his own house, coming from a really wealthy family and so it was nice for Taehyung to basically call it his second home.

He has a girlfriend that doesn't seem to really be invested in their relationship, but in all fairness, neither is he.
They've only been dating for a month and it has mostly just been sex. Better than nothing, is what he says.

"Yea, but I-"

"-When's he coming, anyway?" He interrupted, knowing Taehyung was just going to repeat the same complaint over and over. "... and again, it's not like you're his babysitter, you'll probably never see him. He's what, seventeen? Eighteen?.. no way is he not going to be hanging out with school friends.. even if it's not to party, but for homework or some shit like that." Jin assured, waving his hand dismissively.

"He'll be moving in this weekend, and the fucking worst is, my mom and Hyun are going to be there for a second to drop him off and then they'll be gone for a month or so, maybe even longer, which means I'll have to be there for him to get him adjusted and whatnot.. Uuugh I don't want to deal with this, but I have a feeling that if I don't, he'll be telling his dad that I'm an asshole, and I... I just don't want to ruin this for my mom." Taehuyng sighed, heavily.

"So then shut the fuck up and just show him how to cook an egg, where the toilet is and how to use the washing machine. Boom! ...that's one hour, tops! You'll be fine, now stop bitching about it and let me bitch about the science project that I've done nothing for, and how I'm totally going to fucking fail." Jin whined, dipping his head back against his mattress.

"You'll fail regardless and I'll still be stuck with this kid.. my issue is worse." He argued, getting up and tossing his bottle in the trash while heading to the door. "..and on that note, imma head back home and call Hobi..he'll definitely side with me on this"

"..I'm sure he'll be more than happy to ruin this boy single handedly." Jin called out after him, rolling his eyes.

Hobi is known as the sweet guy in school.
Everyone thinks he's the sunshine they need in their whole life and that his smile is enough to heal broken angel wings...

....The reality is far from it.

He's a perverted, horny, fun loving, bad influence, punk.
Taehyung loves him to death of course, and wouldn't have it any other way. Plus, they definitely have a ton in common.
He's curious about how Hobi will react to this little addition in his life now.

"..You called me and it's midnight... you're either dying, or had the best sex you've ever had in your life...in which case, give me every single detail and don't leave out the deliciously gross shit-"

"-I'm getting an eighteen year old stepbrother."

It was quite on the other end.

"Like... from the internet?" He asked, stupidly.

"...Sure, yea...they have them on Amazon..pretty good deals too! Although they were out of stock on the stepfathers-NO, DUMBASS! ..My mom is getting married..." Taehyung snapped, unnecessarily, failing to chill.
"I should have figured you were high.." he mumbled, more to himself.

"Ooooh.." Hobi cackled, feeling slightly dumb.
"Wow... dude.... that's-" it was quiet again, like he was taking a sip of something before finishing his train of thought.
The anticipation was annoying and unnecessary, and Taehyung just rolled his eyes.

"..awesome!!" He finally got out.

"awesome?" Taehyung asked, blandly.

"Yeaaa man.....eighteen year olds are wild!
Remember when we were eighteen? Jesus, you and I didn't hold back."

"Yea, that's not-"

"-Oh and Mingyu has an eighteen year old bro and that motherfucker is as much a partier as we are.. Your's will fit right in."

Not so ironically, Taehyung met Hobi at a house party when he was eighteen.
He's not wrong, they were a roudy pair that certainly knew how to have fun and immediately became close because of it.
He's like Taehyung, he doesn't care who he fucks or dates and is really easy going.
At this point, a party without Hobi is unimaginable.
Granted, they have definitely moved away from the crazy parties and only occasionally do small house parties.
You could say they've calmed down with age, as one usually does.

"Um..sorry to break this to you, but he's the opposite of that. Shy, reserved, sweet, goodie goodie, ..take your pick...AND he probably loves math....this just sucks."

"How do you know that? You didn't even meet him yet... and honestly, if that's the case, we'll just introduce him to the dark side...show him how much fun it is to live a little and basically do shit that everyone on this earth does in some way." He assured, rightfully dismissing Taehyung's idiotic assumptions of a person he's never even met.
"When's he coming? We can do a housewarming party for him!
—Oooohhh I can bring that caramel flavored vodka I was telling you about!! That shit is fire! ..and I'm also picking up more weed tomorrow.. I'll call Mingyu, maybe he and his bro can join-" he rambled.

"-Alright fine,.. but if this goes bad, I'm blaming you." Not much of a threat, but that's all he's got energy for right now.
