Work Text:

Sighing, Liam played with a loose thread at the hem of his shirt. He was bored. He was bored to death.
With another unnecessary, loud sigh, he let his head fall against the car window. His feet started drumming a random beat.

Just as he went to let out another sigh, Theo's head snapped in his direction.
"Can you stop?" he snarled at Liam.
The light from his phone screen illuminated his face in an almost creepy way.
"Stop what?"
"You know exactly what I mean. Being an annoying pain in the ass."
With a loud thunk, Liam let his head fall against the window again.
"But I'm booored," he complained.
"Do you think it's fun for me to be sitting here in my truck at ass o'clock with you of all people?"

Liam rolled his eyes. He was sure that there were people who Theo hated more than him. Stiles, for instance. In fact, Liam was probably the one Theo was closest to in the pack. Thinking about it, does Theo even have any friends? Probably not.

"Has Scott texted you yet?" Liam asked him.
"No." Theo threw him an annoyed look, "And I will tell you if he texts me, so stop asking every five seconds."
Liam suppressed another sigh and turned around to look out of the window.

It was pitch black outside. Only with the help of the little light inside the truck could he make out the silhouettes of the million trees where they parked. If he wasn't a werewolf, he probably would have been too scared to camp out here. On second thought, maybe he should be more scared as a werewolf because their mission here was to spy out hunters that wanted them dead.

"Liam," Theo interrupted Liam's thoughts. "Scott said the hunters are on their way."
"Oh, okay," Liam blinked. "So, umm what does that mean?"
Theo rolled his eyes and opened the car door.
"It means we have to get closer."
"What? Why can't we take the truck?"
"Because it's harder to spot us than a big ass truck. C'mon."

Theo slipped out of his seat and shut the door. Liam followed him hesitantly. He didn't like leaving the safety of the truck, but he would never let Theo know that, of course. Trying to catch up with Theo, he quickened his pace and used his werewolf eyes to see in the dark.

"So did Scott say anything about what we should do exactly?" Liam asked as he reached him.
"No, I guess we should just eavesdrop, get as much information as possible and try not to get caught." Theo shrugged.
As they reached a rather big rock, Theo suddenly came to a stop.
"I think that's close enough. They can't see us if we hide here. Now we just have to wait. Scott said that the hunters are meeting in this small cabin there."
He pointed behind the rock.

Liam leaned against it and sighed.
Theo threw him a look, "No, don't start that again."
"Okay, okay." Liam raised his hands defensively. "Then distract me from my boredom."
"Should I tell you a bedtime story or what?" Theo asked mockingly.
"No. I mean like tell me an interesting fact or something, I don't know."
Theo raised his eyebrows, but then sighed, defeated. "Okay, let me think."

He rested his hands at the rock behind him. "Okay, I got something. Do you know what they call this rock right here?"
"Umm I don't know."
"It's the skull rock."
"Oh, wow," Liam responded unimpressed. "Is that supposed to scare me?"
"No, what I wanted to say is that the skull rock is known for something."
"For what?"
"You actually never heard of the skull rock?" Theo asked, surprised.
"No, I haven't. C'mon tell me."
"It's a popular making out spot," Theo smirked.

Liam didn't know what he thought it would be but it definitely wasn't that.
"Oh," he just replied.
Theo raised one eyebrow.
"It would have been so much cooler if someone was murdered here or something," Liam muttered.
"Well, actually there are some cases in which people died because of an orgasm so-"
"Oh my god, gross," Liam interrupted him quickly. "Maybe it's better if we sit in silence for the rest of the night," Liam added while trying not to think of all the couples that probably made out at the exact same spot he was standing right now.
Theo was still smirking at him, and Liam turned his head to stare at the trees or something. Anything was better than looking at that annoying asshole’s face.

"Liam." Theo nudged his shoulder not even a minute later.
"I said shut up, Theo," Liam grumbled.
Theo ignored him, "The hunters. I think they're coming."

Now that he said it, Liam could also hear the faint noise of a car approaching them.
As Theo tried to peek behind the rock, Liam shoved him out of the way to have a look himself.
"Rude," Theo grumbled but didn't fight his place back.
Liam could see car lights coming closer.
"They're almost here. But there are only two heartbeats," Liam whispered.
"Maybe the others are coming later?"
"Maybe."

Liam watched as the car parked in front of the cabin and two men stepped out. It was too dark to make out their faces. Even his werewolf eyes were no help because the men were too far away. However, at least he could hear everything they were saying.
"So Mike said he will be here in five."
"Late as always, of course. He should take this more seriously. This is war."
Them talking about war gave Liam a queasy feeling in the pit of his stomach. He felt nauseous. Will it ever be over? Will he always be running and fighting?

Then another car approached the two hunters.
Two new heartbeats.
One man and a woman appeared.
Liam tried to get a closer look without leaving his hiding space too much.
Then all of a sudden a very familiar tune broke the silence.

Liam froze.
The next second a hand grabbed his shoulder and dragged him behind the rock. With one hand, Theo pushed him against the rock.
"Turn that fucking thing off!" Theo whisper-shouted.
While Liam's brain was still trying to catch up with what was happening, Liam's hands frantically searched for his phone in his pockets. When he found it, it almost slipped out of his clumsy fingers but he finally managed to decline Scott's call and turn it off.
"Do you think they heard it?" he asked Theo, worried.
"Half of Beacon Hills probably heard it," Theo hissed back. He leaned a little bit forward so that he could look around the rock.

"Someone’s here," Liam heard one of the men say. The loud click as he released the safety catch of the gun made Liam's blood run cold.
"Fuck, one of them is coming," Theo cursed.
Shit. They were doomed.

Liam didn't even realize how it happened.
One second he was frantically trying to think of an escape plan and then the next, Theo, whose hand was for some reason still resting on Liam's chest, suddenly surged forward and pressed his lips against Liam's.
Liam froze, his mind going blank immediately, the hunters forgotten. He couldn't believe what was happening right now. He was standing dumbstruck, pressed against a rock with widened eyes while Theo was kissing the hell out of him. When Theo realized that Liam wasn't responding, he moved back a little, just to whisper in a low voice into Liam's ear, "Just go with it."

"What the-," Liam began but was once again interrupted by Theo's lips on his. A soft hand clasped Liam's neck and that was the point when Liam thought 'fuck it', ignoring the voice in his head screaming at him that this was a bad idea. Liam's hands found Theo's hips and he slowly mirrored Theo's movements against his lips, kissing him back. Liam knew he should push him off. Liam knew he shouldn't enjoy this. But he did. He really did.

Suddenly Liam was blinded by a bright light shining into his face.
"Oh, I'm sorry," the man stuttered. He took a step back and almost tripped. "Sorry, I didn't want to interrupt. Umm, sorry. I'm gonna go." He disappeared again behind the rock, leaving Theo and Liam staring at each other with messy hair and widened eyes.

"There are just some teenagers making out again." They heard the man whisper to the other hunters.
"It really wasn't a good idea to choose to meet next to the most popular making out spot in Beacon Hills," the woman sighed.

Liam blinked. What just happened. He then realized that Theo was still too close to his face. He couldn't even take a step back because he was standing with his back pressed against the rock.
"I-," he started but then shut his mouth again. He didn't know what to say, just kept on staring at Theo as if he saw him for the first time. Then Theo broke their eye contact and took a small step back. He cleared his throat and then smirked, "How about we make out one more time so they really don't get suspicious."

That got Liam out of his trance.
"Oh my god," he squeaked, his cheeks turning red. He pushed Theo out of the way and got back to his original place behind the rock.
"Just let's get this over with."

---------
In the end, they didn't even get any new information from the hunters. They still didn't know where Monroe was and what they were planning exactly. Apparently, they were trying to recruit new hunters to expand their group. How they were going to do that? No idea. Which means Theo and Liam were none the wiser now.

The walk to the truck and the drive back to Liam's house ensued in silence. As they approached Liam's place, he gave Theo an awkward goodbye and nearly jumped out of the car. Instead of going through the door, he climbed up to his still open window. He had left it open so he wouldn't wake up his parents when leaving for their mission.

When Liam finally laid in his bed, it was almost 3 am. Great, only four hours until he had to wake up for school. He closed his eyes, hoping he would fall asleep immediately.
He didn't, of course.

He just couldn't stop thinking about what had happened tonight. Theo kissed him and he kissed him back. He pulled his blanket over his head, trying to get rid of the feelings that flood through him. They didn't talk about the kiss. Instead they pretended it didn't happen but the atmosphere between them has definitely changed.
Liam didn't know why Theo had kissed him. He didn't know if it was only to not get caught by the hunters. He wondered if Theo would have done the same if it hadn't been Liam. Would he have kissed Scott? Ew. Liam grimaced. Scott was like a father figure to him, so it was weird to imagine Theo kissing him.

The only way to find out if the kiss meant something to Theo was to ask him.
Liam groaned and turned around to bury his face into his pillow. Did he really have to do this to be able to shut off his racing mind and fall asleep?
"Ahh fuck it," he muttered to himself and picked up his phone from his nightstand.
What should he text him?
He didn't want to beat around the bush because he was tired as hell.
'Why did you kiss me?'
No, this wasn't a good idea because he would probably say to not be caught by the hunters.
Maybe he should just go all in and ask him out. That's what you're supposed to do when you think you like someone, right?
"Here goes nothing," he sighed.

- Do you wanna go out some time?, he typed into his chat with Theo. His thumb hovered over the send button. Was that a stupid idea? Probably. But he didn't care at this point.
He clicked send and threw his phone back on his nightstand, pulling his blanket over his head. This really was a stupid idea. Maybe Theo wasn't even awake right now. How was he supposed to sleep now knowing that he sent this text? This was so stupid.

Suddenly he heard his phone vibrating.
At the speed of light, he pulled his blanket down and grabbed his phone, his heartbeat quickening. Theo texted him back.
- with who?
Liam almost laughed. This asshole. He knew exactly who he meant.
- with me, idiot
Three dots appeared, and Liam watched them dancing on his phone screen. This was it. There was a high chance that Theo would mock him for having read too much into the kiss, but there was also a chance that he had felt the same. Theo was still typing. That wasn't a good sign. Liam felt his heart sink. Then a new text appeared.
- okay.
Okay??? Liam furrowed his brows.
- why did you take so fucking long just to type 'okay'??
- for dramatic effect ; )
- fuck you
- buy me dinner first ; )
- omg shut up. I'm gonna go to sleep now
- I'm picking you up from school tomorrow, sweet dreams ; )

Liam put his phone down and covered his face with his hands. What has he done?
He switched the lights off and turned to his side, and even if he would never admit it to anyone, he couldn't fight back the slight smile that crept onto his face as he drifted off to sleep.
