Summary:

“You said…he wasn’t like most vampires right?”

“Yes,” Jin gazed at him tiredly, a mug of steaming coffee in his hands as he took a seat across from the younger man, “Yoongi-yah is…special. He doesn’t quite have the typical vampiric abilities.”

“What.”

The older man sighs, “He doesn’t have super speed, super strength, he can’t charm, and for those reasons, he can’t hunt. The only vampiric qualities he really has is that he’s sensitive to sunlight and he needs to drink blood.”

“Wow”. Jungkook is dumbfounded, “So he has no strengths of a vampire but has the weaknesses of one.”

Jin grimaces, “If you simplify it like that, then yeah sure.”

Jungkook doesn't understand why the Kim siblings are so willing to tend to some broken vampire. What's so special about some pathetic vampire that depends on humans to survive?

Chapter Text

Jungkook respected and admired Kim Seokjin. He was a kind doctor and more importantly, a good hyung to Jungkook. He had somewhat of an unfortunate habit of making cheesy jokes but Jungkook was willing to let that slide.

What he was going to not let slide was that Jin had apparently been housing a freshly-turned vampire. He’s heard the litany of excuses, and frankly, Jungkook doesn’t care about how strong and capable Jin is. Vampires are downright dangerous, a natural enemy of humanity, and the fact Jin was willingly harboring a deadly creature for “research” did not sit right with him.

“Why isn’t he at some lab, why is he here?” Jungkook asked, stressing the last syllable.

Jin pinched his brow ridge with a crooked finger. He loved Jungkook sure but he was such a stubborn and nosy brat who meddled in affairs that were not his to meddle in.

“Why are you here?” Jin parried, placing the same stress on his word as Jungkook had.

The raven-haired man nervously chuckled, “Eomma and I are got into an argument…and I wanted to clear my head. Go away into the city for a while…”

“So you ran away from home? And now I have to house you because you and your dearest mommy had an argument?”

Jungkook sighs with defeat, “Don’t put it like that. And she knows I’m here, by the way, she called your mother too and everything.” He pauses, “Eomma has always thought you were a good influence, even though she’d probably have a heart attack if she found out if you were keeping a bloodsucker.”

Tuning the last bit out, Jin rolls his eyes, great. Now he was practically obligated to let the younger in. Not that he wasn’t going to turn him away anyways, he always had a soft spot for the younger boy.

“OK Kook-ah, stay. I have a room for you.” Jungkook’s face brightened, “But you’re not going to question anything I do for my vampire anymore.”

Jungkook tilted his head, a bit curious about how Jin referred to the vampire as his but brushed those thoughts as quickly as they came.

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever, I’ll stay clear of that freak-”

“Jungkook,” Jin warned, his voice low and serious.

“Sorry hyung.” Jungkook bowed his head low as if in apology. He looked up again, tongue flicking at his lip ring, “You said…he wasn’t like most vampires right?”

There’s a small silence as Jin busies himself by making a fresh pot of coffee. He doesn’t offer any to his dongsaeng knowing he doesn’t like bitter drinks. He, however, makes enough for the little guest that happened to be the object of the current conversation.

“Yes,” Jin gazed at him tiredly with a mug of steaming coffee in his hands as he took a seat across from the younger man, “Yoongi-yah is…special.

Jungkook thinks. Without speed, strength, and charm…what does this vampire, this Yoongi really have?
He sounds out the name in his mouth. It’s a regular name, pretty even.

“Okay but that doesn’t really change the fact that he drinks blood. And needs it to survive. Why are you even enabling this?” The heavily pierced boy asks with exasperation seeping into his tone.

This conversation is a circle, Jin realizes, and with more force than unnecessary places his cup down on the table, causing some of the liquid to jump out. “What did I just say?” He asks harshly.

Jungkook winces. He’s not exactly used this version of his hyung, stern and out of patience. But, with a guilty heart, Jungkook knows it’s his fault.

“I…sorry. That'll take some getting used to but I uh won’t question your motives anymore.” It’s an awkward apology and half-heartedly sincere, but Jin accepts it all the same with a casual wave of his hand.

“By the way, Taehyungie’s here too since it’s break for him. Have him show you around the city sometime.”

This considerably lifted Jungkook’s spirits. Taehyung was Jin’s younger brother, shy of being two years older than Jungkook himself. It’s been a long while since Jungkook had seen him, but they liked causing mischief together when they were children. Grade A trouble-makers.

Jungkook yawned, feeling the exhaustion of the day’s long commute catching up to him, “Do you think you can show me the bedroom hyung?”

Jin got up and lead the way. As they were about to round the corner for the staircase, Jin suddenly took a step back and cursed.

“Jesus, Yoongi. You scared me, what are you doing up?”

Jungkook immediately felt his body thrum in anticipation and excitement. A part of him was scared too because who wouldn’t be?

He stepped to the side from behind Jin’s board shoulders to steal a peek at the vampire, and at that moment Jungkook realizes that while he had been generally aware of the other’s presence, he didn’t really have a mental picture of what he expected the vampire to look like. He, of course, had an abstraction. He imagined a tall, imposing, sickly, narrow face and long claws.

But his abstraction was not even in the slightest bit correct.

Because the boy who was standing before Jin was unfairly pretty, and despite the snow pale skin, quite human looking. Unfairly pretty and petite. He was wearing an oversized shirt that touched his pink knees, and it made him look so small. And so fragile.

“S-sorry hyung. I woke up and couldn’t fall asleep.” The boy said, his voice lower and deeper than one would expect for his appearance.

Jin nodded in understanding, “It’s alright Yoongi. We probably woke you up with all out talking…which reminds me, I have someone I’d like you to meet.” He then turned around and looked sharply at Jungkook.

The dark-haired man realized he was being prompted into introducing himself and felt a little embarrassed he was caught gawking at the pale boy who was too busy staring down at his feet.

“Uh hi. My name is Jeon Jungkook. I’m 21. I’m a family friend of Seokjin-hyung and I’ll be staying here for a while. Nice to meet you.”

Yoongi finally looked up, two dark pools shaped triangular and…vaguely kittenlike. He had a small nose and a pink mouth that looked like it was in a perpetual pout. His hair was a sandy color, somewhere cross between dark blond and silvery brown.

“H-hi. My n-name is Min Yoongi. I’m uh 25…I think. You c-can call me h-hyung.” He said the last part hesitantly and looked at Jin as if waiting for permission.

The older man chuckled, “Yep, Yoongi-yah. You’re his hyung.” His tone was soft, and Jungkook could see that his eyes were soft too.

Crazy. Absolutely insane that he has to call some vampire hyung. Jungkook thinks about what Jin had said, about how Yoongi was special. If special meant weak and fragile, Yoongi the stuttering vampire was certainly that. Jungkook had never thought that Yoongi’s lack of powers and strength would translate so strongly into his appearance. He looked like he couldn’t physically harm a fly.

“Jungkook-ah,” Jin broke Jungkook out of his stupor, “I’m going to help Yoongi with something…Just go upstairs, and walk to the end of the hall and the bedroom on the left is yours.”

Jungkook knew he should be moving, but something was compelling him to stay. He wanted to learn more about Yoongi who edged so close to Jin and lightly clutched his shirt as if the older man was his lifeline.

“Right.” Jungkook finally said, “Thanks for everything. Goodnight Jin-hyung and nice to meet you Yoongi-hyung.”

Jungkook trudged up the stairs slowly, almost wishing he didn’t overhear Jin say, “Are you, hungry baby? Let me open a pack for you. I made you some coffee too.”

Right. Because at the end of the day, Yoongi was a bloodsucker and it didn’t matter how pretty he was. He was a vile creature and Jungkook was determined he’d make Jin understand.

But another matter at hand, he couldn’t shake off how Jin had called Yoongi baby.
