Work Text:

Surprise!

"Hey Nem, Zashi?" Aizawa's two best friends looked up at him, but he was busying himself with 1A's papers that he needed to get home to grade. "My sitter cancelled tonight so can you swing by around ten? I'll only be gone about three hours."

"Oh sure!" Nemuri perked up, "It's been forever since I've been over. How're your cats?"

"They're good. So you'll be there? Zashi?"

"Why both of us?" Hizashi asked, raising an eyebrow. "I'm happy to come, I'm free!"

"I'd ask Nezu but it went badly last time so I'm counting on you guys." Without waiting for their responses he swept out the room, and he left two very confused best friends behind.

"Since when does he need two people to cat-sit?" Nemuri frowned.

"Well he had three cats last time we were over." Hizashi points out, making Nemuri sigh.

"Why do I feel like they've likely multiplied?"

"Hold on…" Hizashi frowned, "Why would Nezu be cat-sitting?"

"It's Shota, who knows."

The duo knocked on Aizawa's door at ten, to which he answered and quickly beckoned them inside.

"They had dinner already, but the little one probably won't lose all his energy for a few more hours." Aizawa said, shutting the door as his friends took off their shoes. "Just make sure he doesn't burn the house down or injure himself, and I'll call it a success."

"Jeez, you make it sound like a perilous job." Hizashi laughed, though it slowly became more nervous as he took in Aizawa's completely serious expression.

"Alright, come here." Aizawa didn't even raise his voice, just spoke tiredly into the house and his best friends frowned in confusion.

Their questions were soon answered as tiny footsteps could be heard running on the wood floors and then a small child came bounding into the room with a massive grin.

"Daddy!" He continued running until he got close enough that Aizawa scooped him up into his arms and made the toddler laugh in delight.

"Where's Hitoshi?" Aizawa asked the child, raising an eyebrow. The kid giggled.

"He's coming! I made sure to bounce on him, so he's awake!" With a fond smile on his face, Aizawa gently ruffled the child's curls.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm awake." Nemuri and Hizashi's eyes widened impossibly further as a whole ass teenager walked down the hall rubbing his eyes. "You're leaving?"

"Yeah, I brought Nem and Zashi." Aizawa nodded. He then finally turned his attention to his friends, who were watching the scene in horror and confusion.

Aizawa was holding a child on his hip. A boy about the age of five or six, and he was happily playing with Aizawa's long dark hair. The kid had fluffy green hair with darker, almost black, near the roots. His eyes were the same bright green as the tips of his hair, and his face was splattered with freckles.

If that wasn't surprising enough, the teenager walked further into the room and gave them a stare that simply screamed Aizawa Shota. Even though the teenager had messy purple hair and purple eyes, and his pupils were white, he stared them down exactly like Shota had when they had been at UA together as students.

"This is Izuku, and Hitoshi." Aizawa said, as if it were completely normal, "Hitoshi doesn't really need to be supervised, so don't worry about it. Izuku, on the other hand, needs constant eyes on him."

"Okay, hold on, why do you have kids in your house!?" Hizashi burst out, unable to hold it in. Aizawa frowned, glancing at the purple haired boy who shrugged.

"They've always lived here." Aizawa replied.

"Dad, I think he's asking why he's never met us." The one called Hitoshi said, raising an eyebrow.

"How come you never told us you have kids!?" Nemuri shrieked as she pointed an accusatory finger at Izuku's wide and innocent green eyes.

"I thought you knew." The dark haired man shrugged, adjusting Izuku on his hip. "Anyway, as I said, I'll be gone a few hours. Just don't let Izuku burn the house down, or let Hitoshi drown himself in the sink."

"Hey," Hitoshi said, mockly offended as he pressed a hand to his chest and rolled his eyes sarcastically, "You'd do it too if Izuku stole the cat."

"She's mine, Toshi." Izuku said helpfully. "It's why she's green."

"Oh, Mochi?" Hizashi said, perking up. "She's adorable."

"You've shown your friends pictures of your cats, and not your kids?" Hitoshi asked his dad, raising an eyebrow.

"It never really came up." Aizawa shrugged. "They didn't ask, but they ask about the cats a lot." Hitoshi smirked, but he reached over to take Izuku as Aizawa checked his watch. Nemuri squealed a little as Izuku tucked his face into Hitoshi's shoulder and curled up in his arms. "I'd better get going. Nemi, Zashi, don't let Izuku burn down the house." Aizawa didn't add anything else as he slipped out the door.

"Why does he keep repeating that?" Hizashi frowned a the door.

"Oh, because Izuku's set the house on fire roughly… six times?" The two whipped their heads around towards Hitoshi and Izuku. "He's a little menace."

"It was only five!" Izuku huffed, looking up to give his brother a fierce and tiny glare. "I can count now, you know."

"Ah, my bad." Hitoshi grinned sharply, and then grabbed his little brother by the foot and swung him upside done without warning. "See? I'm bad."

"Toshi! Toshi! Down!" Izuku's words were smothered by delighted giggles that melted the hearts of Aizawa's friends.

"Alright little menace, now why don't we introduce ourselves to our guests?" Hitoshi carefully hauled his little brother back up and onto his hip, Izuku tilting to the side as he laughed at his own dizziness. "I'm Aizawa Hitoshi, and I'm fifteen." He said, grinning.

"I'm Izuku!" The green haired child announced, leaning out of his brother's hands to hold up five fingers. "I'm five."

"Aizawa Izuku." Hitoshi corrected, poking his brother's stomach. "It's polite to say both names when introducing yourself."

"Aizawa Izuku." The toddler copied Hitoshi's emphasis on their last name, making Hitoshi laugh.

"Exactly right." Hitoshi then turned back to the duo on his doorstep, smirking at them. "Well?"

"Oh! I'm Yamada Hizashi." He introduced himself, blinking in realization. "It's nice to meet you."

"Kayama Nemuri." She wiggled in place at the cute scene of Izuku reaching up and trying to grab messy tuffs of purple hair that were evidently too far away to grab. "So… your Dad?"

"Here, let's not stand around in the entryway." Hitoshi beckoned them into the living room, settling on the couch with Izuku in his lap as they took chairs. "Anyway, Dad's great. I'm not surprised you didn't know about us, though. He's a private person."

"Are you adopted?" Nemuri asked, watching as Hitoshi gave Izuku some kind of neon colored toy to play with.

"No, we're not." Hitoshi shook his head, petting Izuku's curls. "100% Aizawa genes." Nemuri and Hizashi exchanged bewildered looks, which made Hitoshi smirk to himself. "Anyway, what about you guys? What was Dad like back in High School?"

"Mostly he was just determined not to make friends." Hizashi said, smiling fondly in remembrance. "He gave up and let me get close. Me and…"

"Oboro. I know." Hitoshi nodded, not making Hizashi finish. "Dad still mourns him sometimes. Gets upset whenever people die during building collapses in Villain attacks or natural disasters."

"That still upsets him?" Nemuri frowned, "He never told us."

"You think he'd honestly want to?" Hitoshi raised a skeptical eyebrow. "He's private, as I said. Dad thought you knew, and just knew better than to bring it up."

"We didn't–" Nemuri broke off and froze, eyes widening. "Where's Izuku?" Hizashi blinked and realized the kid wasn't in Hitoshi's lap anywhere. He'd dissappeared sometime during their short conversation.

"He's playing." Hitoshi sighed. "Dad warned you not to take your eyes off him."

"Why did that sound so ominous?" Hizashi whispered nervously to Nemuri.

"Probably because it was supposed to." Hitoshi shrugged, not caring that they probably expected him not to have heard. "I call Izuku the little menace for a reason. Well, good luck. I'm going to bed. If I wake up to the smoke alarm again I'll blame you guys."

"One night." Aizawa said, staring in resigned disappointment at his two best friends. "I let you watch them for one night and look at what happens. What did I ask you to do?"

"Not let Izuku burn down the house." Hizashi glanced in shame to the side.

"And what did you do?"

"Let Izuku burn down the house." Nemuri answered sheepishly.

"Well, just the curtains." Hizashi looked around and then winced. "Also part of the ceiling… and that couch…"

"In our defense, his Quirk is seriously sketchy!" Nemuri crossed her arms. Aizawa blinked in surprise, and Hitoshi's head whipped towards them immediately. Izuku was still soundly asleep on his shoulder, though.

"Yeah!" Hizashi agreed, putting his hands on his hips. "You could've warned us!"

"About his Quirk?" Aizawa looked so absolutely bewildered that his friends scrambled to explain in their frustration.

"He was there, and then he wasn't!" Nemuri threw her hands up in the air. "He would pop out of nowhere and then disappear with our stuff!"

"I still haven't found my car keys!" Hizashi agreed, crossing his arms. "I took the lighter away from him three times and yet he still managed to snatch it!?"

"Not to mention the way he ominously giggled nearby but we couldn't find him!" Nemuri ended her rant. "What even is his Quirk?" The exhausted duo looked back at their friend and froze.

Aizawa's shoulders were shaking, and he had a hand over his mouth as he muffled snickers. At their bewildered looks, it erupted into full on laughter as he doubled over. Hitoshi had also started laughing quietly, playing with the sleeping toddler's hair.

"What? Is our incapability to babysit your son that funny?" Hizashi frowned deeply, and Aizawa tried to reign in with snickers and snorts.

"No, no, sorry." He wheezed, "Izuku's…" Aizawa broke off with more wheezing laughter. "Oh my gosh. He's Quirkless."

"WHAT!?"

Hitoshi and Aizawa stood in the burnt living room of their house and smiled fondly at the tiny child drooling on his brother's shoulder.

"They asked if we were adopted." Hitoshi grinned.

"And did you explain?" Aizawa just sighed at Hitoshi's shit eating grin. "Of course not."

"What? I think it's hilarious that you're still embarrassed about it after all this time." Hitoshi replied, still grinning. "100% Aizawa, literally."

"It's not embarrassing." His father denied, turning away to hide his red face. "It was just slightly unintentional."

"Suuuure, like you didn't smack into a woman at the mall and end up with a child that was created by said woman's Quirk?" Hitoshi wiggled his eyebrows. "A child with a color scheme of the last thing you touched?"

"No. Obviously I found you in a garbage bin." Aizawa grumbled, making Hitoshi laugh.

"Right, so you also definitely didn't get so attached to your first child that you used your status as a Pro Hero to hunt her down in the registry and ask her for another one ten years later, specifically touching something green beforehand to match one of your cats?" Hitoshi teased.

"It was logical." Aizawa grumbled. "She remembered me, by the way."

"I'm glad you did it." Izuku whispered, nuzzling into Hitoshi's shoulder with a yawn and a smile. "Now I get to have the bestest brother and father in the whole wide world."

Safe to say, both Hitoshi and Aizawa melted on the spot.
