Summary:

There are some words that cannot ever be spoken, and even more words you wish you never spoke.

No one knew why Stan and Kyle stopped being the “super best friends” everyone had known them to be. The one thing that was certain, they would never speak again. But what would happen if they'd be forced to face each other once more? Could they save their once unbreakable bond, or do they truly have nothing left to say to one another?

Notes:

Soo this is my first fanfiction and I got this idea probably by adding elements of all my favorite other fanfictions I've read together, please if you want to leave constructive criticism to my writing and storytelling, don't be afraid to do so in the comments, but I do hope you enjoy this story and I will try to update frequently. I still have no idea how long I am going to make this, as I get ideas along the way when I write but I hope you enjoy the first chapter! (also I apologize for any spelling mistakes, English is not my first language but I'll try to check as much as I can!)

Also I made a spotify playlist for this story, since I like to title my chapters as song lyrics to get a bit of the vibe of each chapter, here’s the link to anyone interested! : https://open.spotify.com/playlist/60urJLZGekrJLiQse3R58P?si=42e1fe015a834c5c

Chapter 1: It’s funny how things never change in this old town

Chapter Text

Raindrops fell down from the sky, the cold air still lingered from the storm that happened the previous night. The sun was rising and it was currently 7:30 in the morning. It was the type of morning you’d rather spend inside, warm under the blankets, without a care in the world. Unfortunately for Stan it was the opposite. Walking through muddy snow in the morning was not at all how he wanted his day to start. He was cold, clammy and wet from the rain. Distracting himself on his phone. He stood by the road alone waiting for the bus to arrive. That was when Tolkien walks up to him, prepared with an extra umbrella in his hand.

"Dude, if you're going to go outside like that you could at least check the weather." Tolkien scoffed while handing Stan the umbrella. "You're lucky I'm always prepared."

"I don't need to check it since you are always prepared." Dismissed Stan as he opened the umbrella, already completely soaked from the rain. "Besides we wouldn't even be standing in this weather if your dad allowed you to drive in your OWN car."

"He won't allow me because it had something to do with gas prices? I don't know, but ever since he started competing with your dad he's trying to save money on everything."

"Classic, my dad won't even let me get a car or license yet he finds it 'obligatory for the family business' to work on the farm for barely a goddamn cent." Stan scowled, as he watched the bus ride up to them from afar.

He really could've used a car on these days, because he did not look forward to sitting on a bus with a bunch of loud kids he barely knew and did not want to know about. Luckily since this year he stopped having to worry about meeting some certain people on the bus. But it did not make his bus ride more enjoyable. There were only two things he could look forward to during his day, chatting with his friends during break and getting home, writing songs with his guitar that didn't sound like shit. Although his inspiration was running dry lately, eventually you run out of writing about 'things that are shitty in my life'.

The bus stopped in front of them and they got on. Stan sat next to Tolkien on the bus, next to him were Craig and Tweek talking about some 13-billion-year-old star that was recently discovered by NASA, Stan didn't really bother listening to the whole conversation though. He had enough space facts from Craig for at least a whole month.

Suddenly Clyde's head popped up from the seat in front of his. "You two are coming right?" Said Clyde excitedly.

"Coming to what exactly?" Muttered Stan, he didn't feel like getting caught up in another one of Clyde's extravagant plans. Ever since he became good friends with Cartman, he's often been the casualty of Cartman's failed ideas, and Stan decided he wasn't going to spend his weekend in jail, or in another country.

"I mean coming to my party I told you guys about, you know my parents are out of town this weekend and I'm bringing a bunch of booze!" As Clyde is almost jumping out of his seat in excitement, Cartman leans over his seat. "Oh come on Stan, I know you won't wanna miss this opportunity to get wasted, besides, I heard Wendy's coming too, don't you wanna get her back to your side after that Jew basically stole her from you?" Cartman said smugly. "It'd be good revenge."

Agitated, Stan rolled his eyes, "He didn't 'steal' her from me, Cartman, you know they are both the highest scoring students and both in the student council, obviously they would spend time together and I don't really give a fuck whether they hang out or not, me and Wendy are done anyway."

"I'm just saying, it's typical Jew stuff, he did it to me too!" Cartman growled. "He took Heidi from me! Luckily that bastard got broken up with, but she still won't talk to me because of his dirty Jewish lies!"

Stan ignoring Cartman's tirade, turned to Clyde. "Yeah, I'm coming, just text me the details." Clyde nodded and sat back down, pulling Cartman with him, who was still ranting about Jews and their 'mind manipulation tricks'.

Stan sighed and pulled his headphones out, spending the rest of the bus ride looking out the window while various punk rock songs were playing from his headphones.

"But what if the cops come and arrest us all for underage drinking?! GAH I can't deal with that type of pressure!" Yelled Tweek, frantically pulling on his shirt as Craig had his hand on his shoulder. "Honey, the cops won't show up and there won't suddenly be a gigantic mechanical dinosaur trying to kill us all, you're overthinking this again." Craig reassured Tweek. "And if you do get worried, we can leave anytime."

Honestly, both of the things Tweek was saying are possible outcomes of a party here in South Park. But Craig reassuring Tweek that none of that stuff would happen, seemed to calm him down. Tolkien and Nichole we're also chatting by them, well-, making out more than anything. This left Stan to just lean against his locker watching all the other kids pass him by in the halls, getting greeted by friends, or running to the other side of the building to make sure they don't miss their class.

Stan didn't mind existing in silence though. He had gotten used to being left alone to wander through his own thoughts. It became a comfort in some sort of way, he learned to deal with his feelings through writing, it didn't take back from everything shit still being there, but at least he had an outlet. Well, most of the time anyway, his mom did force him to go to therapy after he spend weeks isolating himself from the world after Wendy broke up with him for the last time. They'd been going on and off for years but he knew that this time it was final, she even dated Davíd for a while, but that didn't work out. And after that he saw that Kyle and Wendy became really close friends, he doesn't know how that happened, but he also doesn't really care to. Both of them are people who walked out of his life when he needed them, and he wasn't going to mope over it any longer.

As Stan was just staring blankly ahead of him, he was taken out of his trance as he heard the bell ring, and he started getting ready for his math class. He parted ways with Tolkien and Tweek, who had different classes as his and walked with Craig towards the end of the hall where their classroom was. He didn't really care about classes, let alone school, he just knew that his mom would kill him if he had any more 'sick' days. So he was forced to go.

Craig and Stan arrived in the classroom and sat at their assigned seats, luckily he could sit next to Craig. Craig wasn't the biggest fan of math, but he still paid attention because this class is important if he ever wanted to work at a place like NASA. And luckily for Stan that meant that he could get all the notes from him while he was dozing off or writing lyrics for his next song.

His class passed by quickly, he wasn't bothered by anyone, and he didn't have to worry about any teachers noticing him slacking off, as he usually sat all the way in the back making sure not to drag any attention to him. Of course, he did notice the top A+ students getting in a pretty heated debate as they were arguing that the teacher had calculated the wrong answer and that theirs was correct. Eventually the teacher caved in and even gave them extra points for being so attentive. He didn't understand where they got the energy from, but he wasn't going to dwell on it.

Lunch came around, thank god, he was starving. As he was standing in line, he suddenly heard laughing behind him, he turned his head slightly and saw Kenny showing something on his phone to the red-haired boy next to him. As soon as they noticed he was staring, he turned back around, quickly grabbing some food and left the line, headed towards his usual table.

He joined Craig and the others at their table. "Don't worry, I'll make sure I go unnoticed, my dad's way too busy with managing his work anyway." Said Tolkien as he turned to Stan. "Dude since you're also coming to Clyde's I'll be picking you up on saturday at 9, but we gotta go pick up Nichole and Red to, since they need a ride."

"And you're sure your dad won't see that your car is gone?" Stan asked, but wasn't that concerned, he knew Tolkien's dad wasn't someone to stay mad at him for long if he did something that he wasn't allowed to, unlike his own father who'd get mad about the smallest, most ridiculous things. It was still a big issue to have Tolkien come over at his house, so he'd rather stay away from there.

"Nah, I don't think so, he barely ever looks in the garage or in my room, he won't even notice that I'm gone." He smiled contently and continued eating his food.

Stan also took a bite of his food. They continued chatting a bit about the party but the topic had to be changed because Tweek was getting too many end-of-the-world scenarios in his head the longer they were talking about it. So Craig just resorted back to his typical space facts and Stan pretended to listen, but his boredom eventually got the better of him and he slipped back into his own thoughts.

As he was staring out into the distance, he got snapped back to reality suddenly as he noticed two green eyes peering at him. The moment he diverted his eyes to the ones that were idly watching him, the two green eyes turned away, and Stan was now staring at curly red hair at the back of his ex-best friend's head.
