Chapter Text
D. She got a fucking D. After working on that paper for weeks she expected her mark to be no less than a B, hell no less than a B+. But instead on Monday morning Vi was greeted with a large red D at the top of her page, followed by a note next to it saying, ‘See me after class.’
Just peachy, Vi thought to herself.
Class flew by and Vi barely noticed the time pass as the bell rang out for lunch. Here goes nothing, she thought as Vi approached her teacher’s desk, ready for the worst.
“Ah Violet, you got my note, please take a seat.” Her teacher said warmly as Vi sat down across from her.
“It’s Vi, and yeah it was right next to the giant red ‘D’ on my paper, kinda hard to miss.” she grunted.
“I see you’re not happy with my marking?”
Not happy was an understatement, she was pissed.
“Listen, teach, I busted my ass on this paper for weeks. I proofread it like a bajillion times, how the hell did I get a D?”
Her teacher sighed, “I understand your anger Viol- Vi, and that's why I asked you to come here after class. You’re one bad mark from failing this class, and I see how hard you’re trying. The truth is, there's just no passion in your work. You have all the facts down, all the correct punctuation, but there's no personality in it. You’re a smart girl, and I know you can do better than this. Which is why I’m asking you to consider seeing a tutor for your work.”
Vi scoffed, a tutor, seriously? I don’t need some preppy straight A asshole telling me how shitty my work is. “I’ll pass, thanks though.”
“I’m afraid it’s a bit more firm than a friendly offer Vi. You need this, and I think it’ll help.”
Vi scowled and leant back in her chair, “Who would even tutor me anyways? It’s not like I can pay them, I don’t have the money for that”
“No worries, there's no money needed. I actually had someone in mind for you.” Her teacher said while going into her desk to present her with a sheet of paper. On it Vi can see a set of straight A marks, comments from other teachers praising her, and a photo of a girl around Vi’s age attached to the paper by a clip at the top. She's cute, Vi thinks.
“Her name is Caitlyn Kiramman, she's one of our top students and lucky for you, she is actually tutoring students for credits. I think she’d be a wonderful match for you!”
Vi groaned, “Do I actually have a say in this?”
“Of course, you can always say no and surprise me with an amazing essay to save your grade. But if you just continue on writing the way you are now, I expect to see you again next year when you have to retake this course.”
Not much of a choice huh, Vi thought to herself before sighing,
“Fine, I’ll let her tutor me.”
