Chapter Text
Sitting on your favorite rock near the coastline. You watched as the blues of the ocean collided into the stony shore. Spreading out you watched the sky, feeling the warmth of the sun penetrate every part of your exposed skin.
Ships nearby were leaving port and you watched the men working on them load cargo in the distance.
You raced towards the docks cheering at whoever returned.
Fishermen, the navy, pirates, just whoever had seen the wonders of the sea that day. It filled you with excitement that vast blanket of blue that bounced off reflections of the sky and the boats that cut through them.
Sometimes the fishermen who knew you better now would offer you a fish, telling stories about their catches of the day, their niche of adventure as they pulled the line.
And the pirates that were friendly enough would smile down to you and tell you about their adventures at sea, you hung onto every single word, mouth agape at their reenactment.
One pirate in particular, with hair as red as rubies, with one arm caught your attention one day when he came into port.
He had three linear scars over his eye and a grin as wide as the sea itself.
"Hello little lady!" he introduced himself, "My name is Shanks what's yours?
"Y/N and I'm going to be a pirate just like you!"
"Just like me?" he asked with a chuckle as he lifted you onto his shoulder.
"Well I would hope I'll have both of my arms though…" you say as you peer at his missing one.
Shanks lets out a deep laugh, a twinkle in his eye.
"I have a feeling you'll make a better pirate than me, and theres a kid just like you who I know very well who also wants to be one, maybe you can be friends one day!" he lets out a hearty laugh as he ruffles your curls.
Going back home later that day you swung the door open.
"Welcome home Y/N!"
“Uncle Enoch I wanna be a pirate!” you exclaimed gleefully, posting your small leg up on the chair and propping it onto the table mocking a ship.
“A pirate you say?” he enthusiastically set food down on the table, ushering you to sit so you both could eat.
“Yeah!” you shook your wooden makeshift sword at the ocean view that could be seen from the window.
Uncle Enoch twirled you around in the air and placed his hat on your head as your eyes were buried under it.
“I can’t see like this Uncle.” you complained folding your arms across your chest with a huff.
"Then let me explain little one." you heard him laugh.
"That darkness think of it as the unknown, that unknown is what lies beyond the Grand Line.”
“We don’t know enough about it, but every pirate that goes finds adventures of a lifetime!”
Lifting that hat you could see the light flooding into your eyes once again.
“And I’m going to prepare you for that unknown.”
