'10 Things I Hate About Moon Byul-Yi'

By Kim Yong-Sun

1. I hate the way you dress, especially when all it does is make me lose my focus.

“Unnie, messed up again!” Hye-Jin yelled in frustration.

“Unnie… I really want to go home, we’ve been practicing for hours,” Whee-In whined in protest.

“Sorry guys, I’m just tired, one last time, I promise,” Yong-Sun pleaded.

“Okay, but you better treat us to chicken later, unnie,” Hye-Jin stated.

“Alright…” Yong-Sun said in defeat.

“Yay! I like chicken, everybody likes chicken...” Whee-In sang while walking towards the radio.

While waiting for the song to start, Yong-Sun’s eyes travelled to the source of her distraction…

Moon Byul-Yi in a white muscle Tee should be considered a crime.

2. I hate when we fight, and it doesn’t help that we’re both very stubborn.

“Why are you mad at me?”

“Who said I’m mad at you?”

“Well, you clearly have been avoiding me.”

“Yong-Sun-shi, just because I haven’t been talking to you, doesn’t mean I’m mad at you.”

“Don’t lie to me, Byul, I know when you’re lying.”

“Unnie, just drop it.”

“If you’re angry at me, just tell me!”

“This is pointless, I’m leaving.”

Yong-Sun had recently recovered from her back injury and to make up lost time, she had been working diligently for the upcoming album. Everyone was happy when she came back to work, she just didn’t understand why Byul had been giving her the cold shoulder.

3. I hate how greasy you are, you should just change your name to Moon Neuk-Ki.

“Byul-ah, are you busy?”

“I can never be too busy for you, unnie.”

“Aish, can you not?”

“Fine, I’m not busy, what’s up?”

“I’m hungry, let’s go out for tteokbokki.”

“Well, how can I say no to a date with a beauty?”

“Seriously Byul, I’m going you to punch you in the face.”

“Even if you punch me, my love for you would not waver,” Byul said dramatically, hand to her heart.

Yong-Sun was not apologetic after landing a few punches on Byul, that greasy hamster totally deserved them, especially for making her red.

4. I hate how you constantly tease me and your annoying smirk when I give a reaction.

Yong-Sun was monitoring their dance practice video when she felt a light pat on her shoulder.

Pat, there it was again, but she chose to ignore, knowing full well who it was.

Pat, a slight increase in pressure the third time and a poke at her patience.

Pat, twitching her eyebrow, she inwardly swore at the person’s persistence.

Pat, her attention on the outside view was no longer present.

Pat, gritting her teeth, she clenched and unclenched her fists at her sides.

Pat, “That’s it!” she thought and spun around, a clenched fist in the air, ready to beat the hamster.

But then, there it was, that annoying smirk, like she had just won.

“I knew you couldn’t resist me,” Byul said.

Maybe she did.

5. I hate when you use your charm to your advantage, then again, I can’t seem to say ‘no’ to you.

“Let’s go on a hot air balloon ride,” Byul said unexpectedly, causing Yong to look at her weirdly.

“No, you know I’m scared of heights,” Yong stated plainly.

“But, it wouldn’t be fun without you,” Byul whined.

“Go with Hye-Jin then,” Yong-Sun refuted.

“No! It’s not the same if it’s not with you!”

“You’re just saying that, so I would give in.”

“Please….” Byul pleaded, adding a pout for good measure.

“Don’t do that,” Yong-Sun said, her resolve crumbling.

Urgh!  I’m weak when she looks like a lost puppy. “Fine…”

“You’re the best, Yong!” Byul shouted in glee and pulled Yong-Sun in for a bear hug.

In the early days of winter, Yong-Sun would much rather be in her room, reading a good book than on a hot air balloon ride. But, the look on Byul’s face as they ascended towards the sky changed her mind. She was right where she should be.

Byul was right.

6. I hate when you invade my personal space, you’re lucky that I’m a nice person.

Yong-Sun could count with her fingers the number of times she could remember Byul invading her personal bubble yesterday:

The morning winter air was cold, causing Yong-Sun to shiver as she waited for her ride. Though the cold feeling did not last long, a certain someone decided to give her a fright with a sudden embraced from behind. “Unnie, I’m cold, give me some warmth,” the culprit whined.

When they were practicing their new choreography during the morning, it dawned on Yong-Sun the amount of contact she had with Byul. She wondered if someone choreographed it that way on purpose.

Yong-Sun had a meeting with the CEO after their morning practice, so she had a later lunch than the rest of the members. Byul, who had already finished her lunch by then, decided to provide some company and just watched her as she ate.

It was raining that evening, when practice had ended. Instead of sharing the big umbrella with Whee-In, Byul insisted of sharing the small umbrella Yong-Sun was using.

Byul decided to treat Yong-Sun to dinner for sharing the umbrella when they reached their apartment complex (they lived in the same complex). But since it was still raining, they opted for take-away. Even though Yong-Sun’s dining table could easily fit 4 people, Byul made it looked like it could only fit 1 person.

The same thing happened on the couch when they were watching a movie together. But since it was cold, Yong-Sun did not complain as they huddled on the couch with her rainbow blanket.

Then, Byul who was too lazy to head back to her own place decided to sleepover. She already had spare clothes and toiletries at Yong-Sun’s place, so it wasn’t a problem. The problem was when Byul decided to spoon her (not a rare sight) while they were trying to fall asleep.

Yong-Sun is probably just too nice, that’s definitely the reason why Byul’s so clingy, what else could it be?

7. I hate how nice you are to everyone; I can't help but feel a little less special.

In one of RBW’s meeting room, one could find four of the mamamoo members having a final discussion about their upcoming title track’s choreography. They have been discussing for a few days now and seeing the choreography reaching completion had everyone feeling excited.

While on their break…

“Byul-unnie, when are you going to visit Kkomo again?” Whee-In asked.

“Hm… What about tomorrow, around 2 in the afternoon?” Byul suggested.

“Call! Let’s have dinner together as –

-Hey! I was going to ask unnie to help me with my laptop tomorrow.” Hye-Jin interrupted.

“It’s alright, Hye-Jin, I can help you once we’re done here.”

“Fine…” Hye-Jin said dejectedly.

“I’ll treat you to dinner.”

“Whoo! Byul-unnie’s the best!” Hye-Jin cheered.

“Yong-Sun-shi, you’re being unusually quiet,” Byul pointed out.

“Huh? Oh, sorry, I was just spacing out,” Yong-Sun apologised.

The other three continued their conversation while Yong-Sun pretended to be listening, hand clutching onto the two movie tickets to tonight’s premiere of ‘Incredibles 2’.

8. I hate how you can see right through me, no matter how hard I try to hide the truth.

Today’s practice session was cut short, in courtesy of a certain hamster. Byul told the members that she wasn’t feeling well so they all agreed to end practice early.

“Yong,” Byul called out as she approached Yong-Sun who was in the process of packing up for home. The maknaes had already gone home.

Does she…

“Sit down,” Byul ordered, and Yong-Sun unwillingly followed.

She knows…

“I knew it,” Byul said when she inspected Yong-Sun’s ankle.

Yong-Sun looked away, feeling guilty for being caught.

“I’ll go get some ice, don’t move,” Byul instructed, and left the practice room.

Not knowing what to say, Yong-Sun just blinked and dumbly nodded.

Yong-Sun sprained her ankle mid-practice, and because of her stubbornness, she decided to bear the pain and continued with practice. She should have known, Byul could always read her like a book, probably why she pretended to be ill…

9. I hate when you're not around, I feel as if a part of me is missing...

Sorry unnie, I won’t be having dinner with you, again…

Moonfart

It’s ok, I know you’re busy with your album.

Yongdonnie

Yeah… but, it’s almost done so I’m happy 😊

Moonfart

Alright, good luck and don’t forget to eat!

Yongdonnie

Okay, unnie <3

Moonfart

Yong-Sun let out a sad sigh as she placed her phone on the bedside table. Ever since Byul started getting busier with her album-making, the two of them hadn’t had much time together and the lack of Byul’s presence was creating a void in Yong-Sun’s heart.

10. I hate that -

Yong-Sun was about to finish the last point when she felt a familiar presence approaching her.

“What are you doing, unnie?” Byul asked, curious at what Yong-Sun was doing.

“Erm, nothing,” Yong-Sun muttered under her breath, attempting to shield the paper away from Byul.

As mentioned in point #8, Byul knew better than to believe what Yong-Sun said so she snatched the paper from her grasp, through dirty tricks of course - she tickled her.

“You know, you didn’t have to write me a letter to profess your love to me,” Byul stated after reading the paper and flashed a wide grin at Yong-Sun.

“What!? That’s not-That’s-Can’t you read? It says hate, not love,” Yong-Sun stumbled with her words, too flustered to form proper sentences.

“If you say so, Yong,” Byul said nonchalantly and handed the paper back to Yong-Sun, but she was too busy staring at the floor.

Byul gently lifted Yong-Sun’s chin, so she could look her in the eyes, “Yong,” Byul said firmly, slowly leaning closer towards Yong-Sun. “I hate you too.” And then, it finally happened, their first kiss.

- I don’t hate you at all, not even close, not even a tiny bit, not even at all, nor could I ever.

Based on the movie '10 Things I Hate About You' and other fanfictions with similar themes.

This is my first time trying to write fluff so not sure if I succeeded. Feedback on this is much appreciated.
