Work Text:
Part of you wanted to address the situation right away. That portion of you wished to address every foggy memory of your conversation as soon as the pain in your head faded. Another part of you felt the fluttering in your stomach, paired with the way your heart tightened in your chest, and just wanted to kiss him. A third portion of you knew you had work to complete, no matter what state your head had been in, and unfortunately, that third portion won out of the other two.
In the beginning, you were struggling to get a single product done, nearly giving up from the ache that resided in your head. You wanted to scream out, the pain only seeming to get worse as time passed. As the pain pills wore off, this had been an accurate assumption, nearly slumped at your workbench in agony.
As time progressed, another set of pain pills later, you found your productivity increasing. Often, you would get a flash or two of your own memory, the night prior coming back to you. More than once, you found yourself nearly clutching your product too tightly, a fluttering in your chest as you thought of how the conversation went.
It had been by the point that you managed to get fifteen products done that you had called it a day. Your feelings had gotten the better of you as you wished to address them. The downside about that had been the fact that you wanted to address them at this point, not realizing how late you started, or how slowly you were creating your products.
The clock flashed 2am as your lips curled to a frown, disappointment dropping your heart into your stomach. You no longer felt the hangover you did prior, but you weren't going to wake Calvin up either. For the man who set out pain killers and water for you without a second thought, the man you knew deep down you were falling for, you wanted desperately to avoid the inconveniences waking him at two in the morning would bring. Sighing softly to yourself, you double checked the locked door, before you quietly crept to your bedroom.
In the dimmed yellowed light of the streetlight, you could make out his figure slumbering in your bed. For a while, you stood in the doorway, watching the way his chest rose and fell with each breath. Your y/e/c eyes studied his facial features, documenting how the handsome elder man looked so peaceful in slumber. The sight itself was breath-taking to you, and for a moment you had thought about if you should turn back, walk right on back to the couch to sleep. As you noticed the spot that just seemed right for you, though, you could not bring yourself to simply walk away.
Silently, you crept closer to the bed, pausing for a moment. You sucked in a deep, quiet breath before maneuvering yourself into the covers beside the man. Your heartbeat sped in your chest as you listened to each breath, a warmth in your cheeks as you lied beside him. Closing your y/e/c eyes, you swore it had been forever since you slept in your own bed.
I could get used to this sight every morning, you thought as your y/e/c eyes opened once more, taking one last peek before closing again.
You lied awake with your eyes closed for quite some time, your own fluster keeping you from slumber. While you lied there, you recounted your drunken conversation three times over. Your lips curled upwards the slightest bit, softly inhaling his intoxicating scent. From everything you recounted, you knew Calvin was interested in you as well. It had been you that was the issue, the one blockade keeping the two of you apart. If you had not had such an aversion towards relationships, been more like your sister, you would have given in quite some time prior.
As you lied there beside him, you were hyper-aware of the moment that his arms wrapped around your frame, pulling you closer to him in his own slumber. The added warmth surrounding you nearly drowned you in comfort. While you relished in the warmth of his soft embrace, you found your body's fight against slumber fail. It had not taken more than ten minutes after you were engulfed for your lidded eyes to relax completely, breaths shallowed as your consciousness faded.
Knock, Knock, Knock.
That dreaded sound pounded through your mind as you had still been groggy and ill-prepared. Your lips fell to a frown as you snuck yourself out of Calvin's arms quietly, y/e/c eyes shifting to the handsome older man slumbering. As much as you wanted to let him slumber a little while longer, you knew there was a possibility it could be Felix.
Gently nudging him, you whispered, "You need to hide. Someone's at the door."
As soon as you mentioned someone was at the door, his groggy state faded, shooing himself to his normal hiding spot in your home. Watching him head out, you rose to your feet, making your way to the door hastily despite your groggy state. At the point that you entered the kitchen, your unwanted guest grew impatient.
Knock, knock, knock, knock.
Groaning, you called out, "I'm coming," rushing quicker towards the door. Your strides quickened, lips pursed as your heart pounded in your chest. This morning, you knew you wouldn't need caffeine to rise, though it had made you the slightest bit bitter.
A click sounded as you unlocked the door, before sliding your hand around the knob. Turning it, you feigned your own sluggishness, though your heart pounded maliciously in your chest. Cracking the door, you stood in between the pane and the partially opened door, y/e/c eyes partially lidded.
"Felix?" You questioned with a yawn, your lips curled into a frown. Blinking, you pretended as if you were waking yourself up as you noticed Felix's no nonsense look against his features. If you were to examine it too much, you would think the man looked a tad bit crazed. Innocently, you continued on. "Are you, uh, are you okay?"
"Oh, Y/N," Felix spoke, a twitch to his eye and a clear furrow to his brows. "You wouldn't lie to me, would you?"
"Of course not, Felix," you lied, forcing your lips upwards as you could feel a little fear shiver down your spine. Something was clearly wrong this time around, albeit over three weeks of him looking for his brother. The way his eye twitched, his lips curled downwards, something hadn't felt safe.
"Oh, thank God," Felix said, acting as if he were relieved, though his face hadn't changed. "So, have you seen Calvin?"
"As I said before, Felix, if I saw him, I would call you," you reassured him in a calming voice, hoping that it would help to calm the man down and send him away.
"May I come in, Y/N?" He asked, his eyes still wild, the right still twitching as he forced his lips upwards into a smile.
Furrowing your brows, that fear still settling in the pit of your stomach, you felt your mouth go dry. Forcing the words from your lips, you spoke, "I'd rather you wait a few hours for me to wake up. I haven't even had coffee yet, Felix."
Heart thumping in your chest, you felt something cold and metal against your chest as you found yourself short of breath. The whole situation made you far too terrified to even look down, though Felix's twitchy eye and crazed gaze hadn't left your own. With the metal pressing harder against your skin, you still felt far too much fear to glance far enough down to see exactly what it was.
"I think I should come in," he spoke with a crazy laugh, pushing you back into your own house by the metal.
Finally forcing yourself to glance downwards simply confirmed your suspicion as you saw a gun pressed tightly against your chest. "I think you may be right," you spoke, walking backwards with each step forward Felix took. "And maybe you could put that away?"
"Ha!" He exclaimed, that crazy gaze still clear in his eyes. "Not until you start telling me the truth, Y/N."
"I have no idea what you're talking about," you spoke, shrugging as you tried to move further back, away from the gun. As you did, Felix continued to step to you, eventually leading you right against your counter. Wide eyes stared uncomfortably at Felix despite the innocence in your tone. "We could just, uh, talk, if you put that away."
"I have the upper hand," Felix spoke in his crazed tone. "You have my brother, and I know you do."
"I told you that I don't," you replied as nonchalantly as you could with a gun pointing at you. "How about you just set that down and we can have some coffee? I'll even go and help you look."
"You have my brother's scent all over you!" He exclaimed, flailing his free hand around to emphasize his point.
"Why do you even have a gun?" You tried to reason with the man, a slight stutter to your words. "You can humor yourself if you'd like, looking around and all that."
"I can look around?" He questioned, his eye still twitching, though he seemed to calm the slightest bit.
"If you give me the gun," you reasoned. "So I can put it in a safe spot for you."
"Sure," he started, before his eyes widened in realization. "Wait! No! Do you have rope?"
"I'm not handing you rope to tie me up in my own apartment," you replied in a deadpanned tone.
"Felix, put the gun away," Calvin spoke in a serious tone, walking out of his hiding spot with a frown atop his lips. "Come on, let's go."
"I knew you were here!" He exclaimed in victory, throwing his hands up in the air as he accidentally fired off the gun, making a hole in your ceiling.
You cringed as your heart fluttered with fear in your chest. The top of your y/h/c hair had crumbles of drywall covering it from the new hole. Trembling, your gaze shifted from Felix to Calvin, and back again.
"Oops," Felix spoke with a chuckle, before placing his gun away.
Attempting to calm yourself down, you rose a hand to your face, pinching the bridge of your nose as you closed your y/e/c eyes. As much as you wanted to talk to Calvin about everything that had transpired, you had been far too shaken up by nearly being shot, allowing the two to take their leave as you slumped onto your kitchen floor. Breathing heavily, your teeth chattered as you pulled your knees to your chest, resting your head on your knees. Closed eyes, you could not hear anything despite the pounding of your heart. You weren’t sure if it had been the worst of it, but you realized in this moment that you would not be getting those three months worth of free rent, either.
Maybe I should just not date...ever again, you thought to yourself as you shuddered.
