Slices of life

Summary:

Snippets of life on the Revenge, starting with Lucius hiding from Jim and Wee John in Roach's kitchen.

Notes:

Posting about OFMD at @queer-sails on tumblr :)

There's no plot for this fic, just a serie of oneshots, mainly lighthearted. If you've got prompts, I'm listening.

Chapter 1: In hiding

Chapter Text

THE REVENGE — KITCHEN — EVENING

Roach is alone in the kitchen. He is cutting carrots and potatoes for dinner, and singing to himself. Lucius enters the kitchen without him hearing, and leans down on the table.

LUCIUS — So…

Roach, surprised, screams and turns around, pointing his long knife at Lucius. Lucius lets his notebook fall to the ground, raising his empty hands in the air.

ROACH — What are you doing in my kitchen ?

LUCIUS eyes fixed on the knife — I… wanted to make conversation ! What have you been up to lately ?

ROACH squinting — What do you really want ?

Lucius sights and lets his hands fall to his side. He glances at the kitchen’s door. Wee John and Jim are calling for him in the corridor.

LUCIUS whispering — They keep saying it’s my turn to clean the deck. I need somewhere to hide.

Roach crosses his arms on his chest and raises his eyebrows.

ROACH — And you want to hide in my kitchen ?

LUCIUS — Please ?

ROACH leaning on the counter — What’s in it for me ?

Lucius glances behind again, as the footsteps get closer, and takes a step toward Roach.

LUCIUS whispering quickly — What do you want ?

Roach taps his chin with his finger and takes his time to say his answer.

ROACH — You spend a lot of time with the captain, right ?

LUCIUS — Yes, and ?

ROACH — I want more sugar and better knives.

LUCIUS — What ? And what do you want me to do about that !

ROACH — Talk to the Captain. I want knives and sugar. And oranges ! And vanilla too. Or, I can always tell Jim and—

LUCIUS — Fine . fine. I’ll talk to him. Can I hide here ?

Roach takes a step away from the counter, letting Lucius crawl under it. Roach steps back before it to hide Lucius.

LUCIUS — Thanks.

Roach goes back to preparing dinner. A few seconds later, the door opens and Jim enters. Roach doesn’t move, and keeps cooking.

JIM — You’ve seen Lucius ?

ROACH shrugging  — Lucius ? Not since this afternoon.

Jim looks at the floor where Lucius forgot his notebook. They pick it up.

JIM — What’s this doing here then ?

ROACH without looking — What’s what ?

JIM — Lucius’ notebook.

Roach turns around, eyes wide.

ROACH — Oh shit.

JIM looking smug — So ?

Roach fidgets, passes a hand through his hair, waves his knife around.

ROACH — It’s… You know. I…  I took it. To look.

JIM full of disbelief — You took it. To look at the drawings.

ROACH — Yeah, yeah ! They’re really good.

Jim hesitates, but put the book down on the table and walks back to the door.

JIM — If you see Lucius, tell him we’re looking for him.

ROACH — Sure, no problem !

Jim exits. Lucius comes out of his hiding and stands up. He straightens his jacket and looks at Roach with a bright smile, picking up his notebook.

LUCIUS — You like my drawings then ?

ROACH pointing his knife at him — Don’t forget my oranges.

Lucius walks to the door happily, stopping to listen and make sure Jim and Wee John are gone. He turns back to Roach.

LUCIUS — You know, I can draw you if you want.

ROACH — Get out.
