Jeon Jungkook grew up in a very loving and caring pack. Although his parents were the typical Alpha-Omega pair, they had always been open to the fact that they accepted any and all sub-genders. The Jeon pack, Jungkook’s home pack, were the epitome of a tight-knit, loving pack. The pack was considered to be very radical because they didn’t follow the traditionalist view on pack relationships. In fact, they were a very innovative pack and they broke many sub-gender roles and barriers. The pack believed that everyone had an important role in the group. They didn't think of any sub-gender as less or greater than the rest. They didn’t believe in confining certain societal roles to a specific sub-gender. Anyone was free to do as they pleased, so long as it did not affect the freedom and happiness of others. So, all in all, Jungkook’s childhood was very pleasant and memorable.
It was because of his supportive and loving family that gave Jungkook the confidence and courage to pursue his lifelong dream. His dream ever since he was a young scruffy pup was to become an idol. One of his favorite artists was G-Dragon, aka Kwon Ji Yong, an omega rapper from the hit K-pop group, Big Bang. G-Dragon was an omega who was the leader and main rapper for Big Bang. G-Dragon was such a trend setter and he paved the way for so many trainees especially for all those individuals who aspired to become an idol. He broke all of the gender stereotypes.
Before G-Dragon became the leader of Big Bang, omegas in the entertainment industry were only seen as eye candy and nothing more. They were mainly portrayed as sweet and innocent individuals who sang about love and wore cutesy and sometimes revealing outfits. G-Dragon was not a typical omega for one because he had a fierce, tough guy look. To add, he was a rapper. Rappers were an unconventional role for omega since they were only seen in roles such as lead singers and lead dancers of their groups. And lastly, the reason as to why he was one of Jungkook’s favorite artists was because G-Dragon was the first ever omega leader of a Kpop group. Before this, omegas as leaders of a group was unheard of. They were mostly seen as followers. No one could have imagined an omega leading a group of Alpha, Betas, and Omegas. Not to mention the fact that BIGBANG predominantly consisted of Alphas and Betas. G-Dragon, the only omega of the group, was not only the lead rapper but he was also the leader of the whole group. A lot of people doubted the success that BIGBANG would achieve considering that their leader was an omega. However, despite all of the naysayers and nonbelievers, G-Dragon along with the rest of BIGBANG proved them all wrong. Ever since the group had debuted in 2006, they have been breaking so many stereotypes and inspiring many young pups who dreamed of pursuing a career in the music industry. It was because of G-Dragon’s success that drove Jungkook to strive hard and pursue his dream in becoming an idol.
To add to Jungkook’s family, he had a great bunch of friends growing up. He had grown to love a bunch of kids his age who were also inspiring idols like himself. While he was training hard to become chosen to as an idol he met 7 individuals who were all born on the same year as him. They are also born on the year 1997. Hence, that was why they had “creatively” named their group the ‘97 liners. Part of this badass group were Kim Yugyeom and Kunpimook Bhuwakul who eventually joined the group GOT7. Kim Mingyu, Lee Seokmin, and Xu Minghao who were 3 out of the 13 members of the group Seventeen. And lastly, Cha Eun-woo and Jeong Jae-hyun who were part of Astro and NCT respectively. Jungkook called himself lucky to be friends with a bunch of like-minded individuals who are all as driven and as passionate as he was.
All of this is to say that Jungkook’s environment growing up was very progressive and accepting. So when he had finally achieved his goal in becoming an idol when he debuted in the group called Bangtan Sonyeondan (BTS) his home pack and his friends couldn’t be any happier for him. All of Jungkook’s blood, sweat, and tears finally paid off.
Jungkook was only 17 when BTS debuted which meant that he was unpresented. Individuals typically presented at the age of 18. Everyone in Jungkook’s pack were excited for him to present although they did not force any sub-gender on him. They always told him that whatever sub-gender he would present in he would be loved and accepted regardless. He was never pressured to fit in a specific gender. Everyone in Jungkook’s immediate circle loved him and only wanted what was best for him.
So it came as a huge shock to Jungkook, who grew up in a very progressive and inclusive society, when he found out that the members of BTS were traditionalists. They believed that alphas were stereotypically the breadwinners. To them betas were the neutral peacemakers. And most importantly, to them the only important role of an omega was to carry pups and be a homemaker. Sure they didn’t mind if an omega was an idol. However, they believed that while an omega could be talented enough to sing and dance at the end of the day they stood firm to the belief that an omega belonged to their pups and to their alpha. Basically, omegas could become famous idols, provided that at the end of the day they would serve the needs of their families and of their alphas before their own. To Jungkook, this frame of thinking was incredibly problematic to say the least but he was more than willing to overlook it because the BTS members were nothing but loving and caring to him. What could possibly go wrong?
(Little did Jungkook know that everything could go wrong when he was going to be spending a majority of his life with a bunch of individuals who had limited and outdated views about sub-genders and their societal roles.)
