Suddenly, icy fingers grabbed my arm as I inched through the darkness. They were so cold, my hairs stood erect as soon as our skins made contact.
They wrapped and slipped around my arm tightly, hastily pulling me from the back and into the darkness. It was so sudden that my mind couldn’t even register what was happening until it was too late.
Then, I was plunged into a dark corner.
Hurled into the corner, my back hit hard against the stone brick wall. As I was trying to grab my bearings, my hands pinned themselves against the wall, fingers touching and gripping hardly on the surfaces and ridges of the bricks for support.
I looked around the surroundings to identify the person who had grabbed me.
“Who’s there?” I said, warily.
But the darkness made it difficult to tell or notice anyone there. Then suddenly, a hand clasped my mouth from one side of the corner. I gasped.
The moment our skin met, I knew it was that same icy touch I had felt when I was pulled here. Now, with their fingers on my mouth, I realised this was no ordinary cold hand. The chilliness from their hand felt like they had been waiting out here in the winter cold for some time now. Shit.
I tried to resist and release them from my mouth, attempting to rip those cold fingers with my hands. But the grip was so strong that my effort was futile.
I screamed at the top of my lungs but the only sound that came out from my hand-clasped mouth was a hoarse muffle. Another frozen hand reached and grabbed my waist pulling me to them.
Then, at the right angle in the moonlight, I could make out a man’s face. He had large bulging ebony irises, and skin blanched and red, flushed by the winter’s cold. He’d looked familiar but I couldn’t grasp my memories quick enough to remember him. I could see his mouth twitching wickedly into a smile.
Looking more closely, I saw his eyes, realizing his pupils were so black and dilating enormously.
I shrieked in terror as his hand started touching up my waist and brought them to my chest. He started to grope me, touching my breasts, going to my neck, feeling my bone and the softness of my skin.
I bit down hard on his hand however, he wouldn’t even flinch or react. I tried to pull away but that only made the clasp of his hand on my mouth tighter.
As ghastly as it was, it started to worsen when he released his hands from my mouth and slipped a small curved knife out of his pocket. I looked in horror as he pulled me closer and mockingly placed a finger on his smiling mouth.
“Scream and you know what’ll happen”. As a threat, he gently slashed the knife across my cheek. Blood trickled down, red and dark. Tears started to pool in the pits of my eyes when suddenly, he kicked my legs and I buckled to the floor. My back fell first and slammed on the cold stone floor.
He crouched down and started to pin me to the ground, strong knees on my legs.
“Shhh. Be obedient and stay quiet,” He warned.
I tried to reach out and push him away but stopped when he started to bring his hands to my thighs and waist. I shivered in fear and disdain as his hands caressed me and went up to my chest. He tugged on my clothes trying to unbutton my blouse.
I yelped helplessly and cried. “Please stop. Please let go!-”
He presses his cold, chapped lips on mine, stopping me from talking. I tried not to wretch as I couldn’t pull away.
He started to bring his knife to an arc near the right side of my face, holding onto it wobbly. “Didn’t I tell you to be quiet?”
Adrenaline and panic brought me to use my whole strength to make for the knife. I reached for it with my two hands. Unknowingly, I slapped the knife from the arc away with my right hand.
The knife slammed right onto his face. His knees loosen on my knees and I quickly wriggled my knees out of the way and slammed my right knee into his groin. Trying to take advantage of his shocked state, I took hold of his abdomen and shoved him to the side.
I crawled away quickly, got on my feet and started to run away. I ran away from the dark scary corner and into the street near the highway, following the light from the streetlamps to light my way.
Even as I was out of breath, I ran and ran until I was away from him, away from the corner, away from the dark, until I was certain I was safe.
When I finally felt out of harm's way, I slumped on someone’s porch. Their stairs felt cold and hard. I heaved and huffed, trying to gulp in as much air as my lungs would allow. My breathing must’ve been so loud that they unlocked their door and opened it to investigate the noise coming from their porch.
I didn’t care. I continued to stay there, gulping in large parts of the winter air.
“Are you alright?” they said with worry.
I turned around to the sound of a voice I remember. Oh, Nathaniel. He lives here. I had forgotten that my bosom friend lives around here.
Suddenly, I noticed that I’m sitting on his porch. His stairs. Memories of what had just happened rushed back to me like a giant wave, similar to a scene out of a horror movie.
Nathaniel walked over to his porch and said “What happened? Why are you here?”
His questions of reality overwhelmed me and tears started to form and stream down my face. As I wept, he comforted me by patting my back. What had happened had felt so real. I sobbed, tears streaming continuously down my cheeks.
He brought me up to my feet and led me into his house. “To be honest, you look like you just came out of a horror movie. For a second there, I had really thought u were a zombie” he said jokingly, trying to stop my crying. “I mean you could try applying for an acting gig.”
I tried not to snort as tears continued to stream down from my eyes. Why do his jokes always make me laugh at odd times?
I looked down at myself.
My blouse was half-unbuttoned and my pants stained brown. My hair’s crusted with dirt and my own blood.
Dishevelled as I was, I didn’t bother.
He wiped my tears with the edge of my sleeve and let him open his door and lead me into his warm abode.
The heat from the fire burning in his fireplace felt so pleasant. I’m ready to be engulfed and welcomed by the heat in hopes it’ll make me forget the touch of those icy fingers, a touch as cold as ice...
