Chapter Text
An underground city, seemingly stretching beneath the surface of the entire planet, was infiltrated by Sepratist Forces.
The 501st was, essentially, at a stalemate.
They didn’t have the subtlety to get underground and retrieve the package, in the numbers they would need to do so safely.
Plo Koon and his smaller Wolfpack were here, but even they themselves had been hesitant to do anything.
If the Separatists caught wind of any activity, they had threatened to blow the entire planet to rubble, blowing the reactors hidden all throughout the city, supplying it with power, which in turn would cause mass explosions, bringing the surface of the planet crumbling down.
The city had dug deep. It was estimated it might go almost half-way to the planet's core.
Unlike Coruscant, the civilians had never bothered building up.
So here they were, waiting for the 212th, and General Kenobi, to show up.
What they were supposed to do, Rex grouched in the privacy of his head, he had no idea. It’s not like Ghost had any more experience than Torrent with stealth.
Then the Negotiator showed up.
And the Coruscant Guard disembarked.
“Oh you have to be fucking kidding me.” Rex kept his muttering quiet, standing to attention beside his General and Commander, as General Kenobi and Cody came to meet them.
“Anakin,” Kenobi greeted warmly, before dipping his head at Rex. “Captain, good to see you.” He grinned brightly at Tano last. “And Ahsoka. Glad to see you’re all well.”
Anakin waved his hand dismissively.
“Why’s the Guard here?”
Rex bit back a snort, sharing a look with Tano at the General’s behaviour. The kid was terrifyingly adept at finding his eyes under his visor.
“Well you see Anakin, unlike any of our forces on the front, the Guard has a certain ability to be, shall we say, inconspicuous.”
Rex stopped himself from rolling his eyes, and Kenobi glanced at him, amused.
“They’ve been ordered to infiltrate, regardless of how you might feel about it my Padawan.”
“Not you Padawan,” Anakin grumbled under his breath, and Kenobi turned to Rex fully.
“We’ll need a debriefing before we continue, I’m afraid.”
With a quick salute, Rex turned on his heel, and led the way, Ahsoka stifling some giggles beside him at her Masters’ continued complaints.
On his HUD, a message notification popped up.
C.Cody: Fox has been pinged to follow us. Behave.
Rolling his eyes properly this time, Rex dismissed the message. Maybe Cody should worry about himself, the giant Mother-Tooka.
It was a special kind of peeve, he decided, entering the war room, that the Coruscant Marshall Commander got here before he did.
Fox turned, another Commander with him, and saluted. “Generals. Commander.”
Absolutely no acknowledgement of either himself or Cody.
Prick.
“At ease gentlemen,” Kenobi took charge. “We know why we’re here, and unfortunately, we’ve been told we need to move rather quickly, so we’ll have to run through things quite quickly I’m afraid.”
The two Corries stood, perfect posture, eyes on the General.
Their paint was the exact same. Now that he was thinking about it, the only reason he was sure which one Fox was, was because he spoke.
Rex crossed his arms, and focussed back in as Kenobi laid out all the information he’d received.
Then it was Anakin’s turn. The General pulled up everything they had on the layout, which, unfortunately, wasn’t much.
The clankers had made sure of that.
“The only real ways down from the surface of the planet are these two entrances. They basically act like big elevators. Issue is, they have scanning and identification check points, literally everywhere, and that’s what the clankers have taken over. Every other way in is either too small for someone to fit, or under heavy surveillance that we can’t crack.”
Kenobi stroked at his beard, nodding thoughtfully.
“Any thoughts so far, Commander?” he addressed Fox.
The man tilted his head at the schematics.
“We can get through.” There wasn’t a single doubt in his voice.
Rex bit back a retort.
If he wanted to get his men killed trying, he was welcome to. Over-confident moron.
Even Ankain was glancing at Kenobi, waiting to see if he’d say something about that statement.
“Very well then. I’ll give you time to talk with your men, and we’ll have you back here to tell us your plan shortly.”
“Yessir.”
Another salute, and he was gone, his fellow Commander with him.
Kenobi shared a glance with Anakin, and shrugged.
“I guess we’ll see what the Commander has to say.”
