Work Text:

It’s hard to find someone who comes to art exhibitions and has the same mindset as him. His friends usually only come for the aesthetics and hype.

So, when times like this comes, he goes alone with his thoughts.

It’s always fascinating when coming to art fairs like these. Renjun always feel like he sees what the artists think or feel at the moment. “Every piece must resemblance a tragedy.”

A dark piece doesn’t always mean the tragedy is bad. It might resemblance a night to remember. Perhaps a dream so good the artist wanted to frame it.

Reds don’t always portray love. It might portray a tragic killing, a memory in time. Blues don’t always portray sadness. It might portray the feeling of calmness. Like sitting on an open ocean.

Yellow has always been his favorite. So bright, too bright, some people hate it. For Renjun, it’s a great color the nature has in store. If nature loves it that much, then it should be so beautiful. And Renjun does feel it.

But the combinations can mean anything but what the color represent.

And Renjun loves art like that. So random, so pretty, so confusing.

He walks down the halls, analyzing each and every piece, reading what the artist felt while making their work. Feeling like he’s in the tragedy of every piece.

Too into his thoughts, something from his pocket fell, and he doesn’t realize it. Not until a stranger pat his back. “Is this yours?” he said while holding a worn-out leather wallet.

Renjun checks his pocket and realize that it is in fact his. “Yes, oh no I must’ve been too into my world. Thank you so much …?”

“Jaemin.” The handsome stranger smiles. “Just call me Jaemin.”

“Renjun.” He smiles back. “Thank you so much, Jaemin.”

“Excuse me.” And there goes Renjun.

Well, apparently, he goes too deep into his thoughts again. Because the second time Jaemin calls, he’s right beside him.

“So, tell me, are you here alone?” Renjun jumps back a few steps. “Uh, yes?”

“Mhm, its nice isn’t it?” Renjun nods his head. “Well, Renjun, can I ask you something?”

“Shoot.”

“Can I ask you to be my object in my photos?”

Shit. Renjun never really like being the center of attention. He never really like posing for pics and things alike. “I’m not a model.”

“Well, you kind of qualifies for one.” There’s a huge grin plastered on Jaemin’s face. “But no, you don’t have to model. It’ll just be some of your photos from behind or side. Nothing too much.”

“I’ll do it if you’ll shut up and let me enjoy this exhibition.”

Jaemin muttered a small “yes!” and smiled until the corner of his eyes are crinkled.

-

It’s the fifth piece he came across since the Jaemin incident. It’s a projection across the room hes’s in. Renjun did say he likes yellow most, but he also likes blue. Just like the piece around him. Blue, like the sea.

He looks at it as if he’s staring at the deep sea. Beams of sunlight seeping from the surface of the ocean, into the colonies of fishes, and deep into the sand meters below. The bottom of the ocean, where Renjun feels like he’s standing on. Below him, sand. Beige colored sand.

Before it all turns into multiple colored scheme, and the fishes are gone.

He looks around. “What is this supposed to mean?”

But instead of an answer, his eyes are locked into a lens and a person standing right behind it, clicking photos of him.

“You’re so pretty, Renjun.” The person muttered.

“Ah, I forgot you asked to follow me whenever I go, heh.” He steps closer to Jaemin. “Do you know what this piece supposed to mean?”

“Huh.” He straightens his pose. “I think the artist made it in resemblance of the sea and the pollutions the human caused.”

“That’s…” Renjun thinks while he’s back to spinning around, looking at the piece. “That’s a wonderful approach to this. I think I agree.”

Silence occurs while it’s projecting colors turning into dark blues before the fishes come in.

“Jaemin.” The person in questions whipped his head closer. “Can I see the pictures you took?”

“Sure, why not.” He said while fumbling his camera and handling it to Renjun.

The first picture shows him with the colorful background that the piece has. He’s looking straight at the lens. The second one is when he looks around the place. The next few pictures shows his hoodie in contrast with the blue piece.

He continues pressing the next button until he figures the first one with him was taken before he even knew Jaemin.

“It’s all so pretty. You’re definitely talented in this.” Renjun said as he hands Jaemin the camera back.

“Thank you.” Jaemin smiles lightly. The blush creeping up his cheeks, but Renjun couldn’t really see it because of the ambience there. “it is probably because of the model.”

And they’re back to exploring the gallery once again.

-

They grew closer and closer. Renjun doesn’t think Jaemin is that annoying anymore. If Renjun had to be honest, Jaemin gave him good insights on some works. Some he never really thought of when seeing those works.

They came across this interactive piece where they can also contribute to the work. The concept is like an unfinished work and you can add on it.

It is actually a simple plain white room with the artist’s mascot in the middle of one of it’s wall. The mascot is acting as if it’s saying you should be free to express yourself. Whether it’s your emotions or personality.

And art is just like that. Or at least, that’s what Renjun thinks.

He thinks the artist is encouraging the audience to make arts and be themselves. And the audience is surely encouraged by that. He can see many interacting with the piece. Drawing things on the wall with markers, putting up some sticky notes with words on it.

“Renjun, can you hold my camera for a bit? I want to write something.” He nods and look at where Jaemin is going.

He holds the camera on his hand and click some pictures of his surroundings. Clearly, he’s not as good as Jaemin, but he’s not bad at it either.

Renjun moves closer and closer to see what Jaemin is doing. He clicks some picture of him standing gorgeously as well. Jaemin really look like he’s the art piece there.

Right in front of Jaemin is where he puts up his sticky note. “Renjun!” he calls.

When Renjun got closer, it’s written clearly of something.

Pretty stranger, can you be my museum buddy and model? XX

Damn, his face must’ve been as red as the fire hydrant right now.

He took another sticky note and write,

Sure

Ask my number and I’ll be down :D

Jaemin smiles brightly and hugs Renjun right at that moment. When he lets go, Renjun’s face is surprisingly fond with the hug. He even invites Jaemin for more.
