Hey, Belladonna, I miss you and your poison

Summary:

This poem can stand alone without the context of the Floriography works, but reading them inspired a dream that inspired this!

Work Text:

I want to be soft

like the wind as it gives its last sigh.

I want to be kind

like the rain that reaches

through the thick-clumsy grass

to feed the roots below.

I want to be good

the way you were before

atrocity bloomed in our gardens

and germinated blossoms of fear

and fury and distrust and trauma,

every clammy and wan shade

of the once-rainbow, in our hearts.

I want to love you

as we’ve never been loved

before. I want you to know

the rich soils I would give you

if only I could afford them.

But dear Belladonna, with your sharp

twisting petals, you would never dare

to let me, for what has been germinated

cannot simply be plucked away,

those roots entwine with your own

and I know that your poison touch

would never bear any fruits

in this wasteland that has fallowed

between us. Still, I want to love you

the way leaves love the sun

even as it dries them out

and greys what was once green.

Belladonna, I would let you poison

me, if only I thought it would grow

your smile again.
