Chapter Text
“I think, we need to take a break, Tae. We need to take a break from each other.”
They were right in the middle of conversation, when Jungkook suddenly went silent for couple of seconds before dropping the bomb.
“What?” Taehyung looked bewildered. His brow knotted together in confusion, his playfulness melted from his face. He looked at Jungkook’s face. “Kookie?”
“At least for some time. All we did was fight anyway. ”
Taehyung gave him disbelieving look. “You already make up your mind, don’t you? Even if I ask you to stay, even if I beg you to stay, you will just walk away.” Tae pressed his lips tightly, tried not to cry.
Jungkook swallowed. “No, Tae, listen. It’s only a break. It might even be for temporary. I think it’s for the best, for now.”
But Taehyung was not having it. “You said, you love me. You said you want us together, forever.”
Jungkook clenched his fist, “I did. I do. But I know the way you look at me, like you have this expectation of me. Of us. And I can’t do that. I am not ready for that. Neither you are.”
“Me? Don’t. It is not my feeling, we need to question, Jungkook-ah.” Taehyung looked at Jungkook, betrayed. “So, that’s why we kept fighting these past few months? Because you are not sure about us? About our relationship? Or our future together?”
The words flew through Jungkook like a bullet, he was shocked to know the gravity of what he had said to Taehyung.
Taehyung looked like he’s going to cry. This is exactly what he was so afraid of.
“Tae, listen, I don’t mean it like that.” Jungkook took a step forward.
“No. Don’t touch me.” Tae shook his head, “I love you and I want us to be together forever. And you just don’t see it happening. I feel like a fool.” Taehyung chuckled sarcastically.
Jungkook’s nostril flared in anger, “What kind of future do you think we have? We cannot even do anything! We are still too young. We are in our twenties. We can not even say in public that we are dating! All those hide and seek with public eyes…”
“So, you choose to walk away from me? Because you want to explore your youthfulness?”
Jungkook flinched at the venom in Taehyung’s tone and words.
“You are right. I agree with you. Let’s break up. I will let you go. There is no point of me begging you to stay. I dream of us settling down, but you don’t. I want to talk about our future, maybe getting married someday, adopting babies, raising them together, but you would not even consider them because you never consider those possibilities. Because you don’t want one.” Taehyung’s eyes were lifeless.
Taehyung inhaled deeply, looking down and away. Silent tears trailing down his cheek as he spoke. “Together through the storm? Right, Jungkook-ah?”
Jungkook stood still when the lyrics of the song he covered and used to sing to Taehyung being wielded against him as a deadly weapon.
“I guess you didn’t mean when it is our storm. Because you choose to leave me.”
Jungkook stood frozen by the door which was slammed on his face. Tae’s pained words echoing in his mind. He never thought Taehyung would shut him down like this with outburst of emotion.
Jungkook thought he would be getting Taehyung’s reticence or indifference when he wanted to ask for some space.
“What happened with you two?” Namjoon handed Jungkook a glass of ice-cold beer before sitting down beside him.
“I broke up with him.” Jungkook sighed.
“Taehyung?” Namjoon sounded so disbelief.
“Yeah, who else.” Jungkook answered bitterly. “I did plan to talk with him. I wanted him to give me space. But things were escalated, and I broke up with him and he slammed the door on my face.” He shrugged, tried for nonchalant.
Namjoon stared at Jungkook, didn’t even blink. “You are shitting me.”
“Jungkook-ah.” Namjoon gave a warning tone.
“I don’t know. Okay? We just, we fought all the time. About everything. Anything. Things that mattered. Things that didn’t. Every fought was too intense. We fought. We made up. And we fought again.”
“Saying words, we don’t even mean… It got so unhealthy, so I just wanted to have some space.”
“What did you guys fight about?”
“Like I said, everything.” Jungkook was reluctant but Namjoon had this aura around him and Jungkook respected the older too much, he could not lie eventhough he wanted to.
“Tae said, I was not into our relationship anymore.” Jungkook admitted.
“And you were not?”
It wasn’t a question. It was a statement, phrased as a question, and Jungkook hung his head low.
“I didn’t know, hyung. I loved Taehyung… I still love him.” Jungkook finally said.
Namjoon could hear the silent ‘but’, but Jungkook bit his lip and insisted to keep on silence. Jungkook was being so vague about everything. But it’s not like Namjoon could force Jungkook to tell him everything.
Namjoon sighed while standing up. He walked to the door and just right before he closed it, he turned around,
“You can talk to me anytime, Jungkook-ah.”
Jungkook nodded, “Thanks hyung…” Namjoon smiled a bit. Jungkook explanation for what happened was hazy, so much that Namjoon barely learned anything. As the leader of the group, he had the right to know everything that would affect the group as whole. And as their hyung, he concerned about those two and cared about them deeply.
“Just don’t complain if Chim slapped you tomorrow. Or if Yoongi gave you death glare or something.”
Jungkook laughed awkwardly. “Yeah… right. I will bring some ice pack with me.”
Jungkook leaned his back soon as Namjoon closed the door. ‘I fuck up, don’t I?’ Jungkook mumbled.
Taehyung checked his phone, he neglected it for a whole night after the huge fiasco. It’s flooded with missed calls, voicemails, texts. Few missed calls and texts from Wooga squad, he stood them up last night. And some also from Chim.
He was mentally and emotionally drained. He cried himself to sleep and shut off the world. He needed his quiet space even just for a moment.
Tae considered to respond to them but, he just felt really overwhelmed last night.
Tae went to HYBE building. He felt so tense. Members must be aware of him and Jungkook breaking up and it made him anxious. He wanted just to run away, hide somewhere, and curl up until next year or something.
When he entered the dance practice room, Namjoon was sitting there with Seokjin. And they both smiled at him, as reassuring as they could and gestured Tae to sit down next to Seokjin, joining them in the sofa in the corner.
Uneasily, Tae took the seat, he took a look at members’ face one by one, and he had a hunch that they were not informed yet, saved from Namjoon and Seokjin.
“We’re still waiting on Jungkook. Then I would like to talk to you guys.” Just as Namjoon finished up, Jungkook came in, automatically going to the one the furthest from Taehyung.
Taehyung looked away instinctively.
“Let’s get straight to the point.” Namjoon said. “Taehyungie, Jungkookie, I am sorry. This is your privacy, but-“.
“I understand.” Taehyung cut him off. He knew when they had started the relationship, him and Jungkook, they involved all members. It’s also the same when they broke up.
Namjoon sighed. “I want to inform you that..”
“Hyung, let me.” Taehyung interjected. He didn’t want anyone else to lay out his circumstances. He didn’t want to run away or to be the third person in his own life. It hurt like hell, but he would own it up.
“Jungkook and I… We are no longer together. And while I very much hope that it didn’t go this way, but this happened. And I hope that it would not affect our group dynamic. And I know it won’t.” Tae gritted his teeth.
He felt Seokjin hand enveloped his and he didn’t realise that his hand was freezing cold.
“The fuck?!” Jimin’s eyebrow flew up. “The hell happened?”
“Doesn’t matter. We just broke up.” Taehyung answered short while Jungkook was staring hard at nothing.
Taehyung bit his lip and didn’t say anything else for the rest of the meeting and the dance practice. To be fair the meeting didn’t last long. Everyone was too shocked to respond, and they look much more concerned about him or Jungkook. They stole glances at him multiple times.
