Chapter Text

A couple of birds flew through the open split through the mountain passing by a lone female standing guard in brown leather layering over top of a black top with violet fringe going around the waist, followed by a plain white knee length skirt matching her white worn sandals. She stood against an oversized boulder blocking the beginning of the entrance, leaving the area to the opposite side. Rubbing her eyes, she stood holding up a long wooden pole with a very sharp metal end to ward off possible invaders now that the mountain was vulnerable against any possible attack. Their situation had changed compared to when the mountain acted as a wall sealing everyone inside where it was safe and peaceful. At least until the Madrigals Casita collapsed, resulting in cracks stretching throughout the village and splitting the wall that protected Encanto in half.

Luckily no one was hurt after the incident, but the Madrigals had lost their power and their Casita along with other small homes in the village. Just when we thought it was going well after Casita being re built as soon as the young Madrigal girl turned the doorknob a flash of wind blew throughout the village and sparkles danced through the air circling the Madrigal casita then with a flash you looked around noticing that the magic had come back to Encanto through another last minute miracle.Your family home was sadly damaged as well during it all but you didn't mind it was destroyed after the cursed memories it soaked in your mind every day staying among the bitter memories, it was only you living in the house now since your parents had passed away.

Your mother had died when you were younger, one day mysteriously your father told you as he buried her in the backyard late one night because she died in her sleep. You had no reason to deny your fathers words as anything but truth. But as you aged you began to see your father turn into a hateful man who would scream and yell at you, calling you your mothers name tangled with slurs and apologies against she directed at you in his drunk states you would accidentally walk in on.

Late one night you arrive home and you are suddenly swept to the floor with a sudden pain on your face as you crash into the wall of your home. Looking up you see your father with madness dripping from his eyes by flooded tears. You panic looking around to regain your bearings to look for the closest exit to rush outside and far from your father who had just sent you across the room with a single swing of his hand. Eyeing the exit and him you brace yourself gripping at the ground to push yourself as fast as you could towards the door till you feel a heavy weight attached to your arm with a painful grip. Looking down at you with tears and confused eyes was your father, only realizing what he had done he released your arm, causing himself to fall on the ground, giving you the chance you needed to sprint outside of your house and through the village to find a safe haven to tell someone what had happened. Spotting your friend Lusia you sprint over to her in tears desperately tightening your grip on her skirt afraid of the sight of the monster your father turned into.

“Y/N What's wrong?! What happened to your face and your arm?” Lusia tried to console you to get answers to find a way to help you.

Lusia knelt down and started brushing her hand against your head to calm you down and find out what had happened. “My father…”you whimper out through your panicked breaths, managing to sputter out before wrapping your arms around Lusica, hoping that your internal shaking could be controlled by focusing on holding into your friend who you knew was worried increasingly about you. She picked you up holding you tight as she rubbed your back on the walk back towards their Casita for the night. Through the constant adrenaline and fight or flight decisions you suddenly had no energy left, leaving you to flutter your eyes shut before you realize you are peacefully asleep by the time you both arrive back at her casita. The family let you sleep in the old nursery for the night till you could be walked back to your house to confront your father for his behavior the night prior.

The next morning comes and you slowly open your eyes and sit up in the bed you noticed you were settled in for the night. Rubbing at your eyes you swing your legs out of the bed and look down at your arm with an obvious bruise creating a ring around your upper arm reminding you what exactly had happened last night. Emotions all came flooding back, sending you into a panic again causing you to wrap your arms around yourself for comfort. Looking up you hear a light knock at the door, causing you to jump. Staring intently while it slowly creeks opened you realize Lusias head peeks in with a worried look on her face as she crept in closing the door behind her to make her way over to you to sit beside you on the bed reaching for your hands to place an arpas in your hand. “Y/N you need to eat something to help those injuries you have and at least fill you up with something to eat” She really was always a good friend looking out for you since your mom passed away.

So many thoughts kept going through your head aside from how you were embarrassed to be associated with your father. Why had he hit you? Why was he the only one to know how your mom died? Why did his face look so full of guilt as you looked up at him with fear for your life.. Your father had always been a violent man since your Mother was alive, you though with your mother gone now he had no reason to be yelling anymore. It was going to be fine.

“Y/N….our abuela heard about how you came in last night and was very concerned with what had happened so last night she went to your house with her in-laws to check on what your father to confront him about last night…but” Lusias words waver almost as if caught in her throat causing her to distort her face in grimace and grief. You lay down the arpas on the night stand and place both your hands atop of hers bravely signaling for her to finish what she wanted to say. “...Your father….he….he” a stream of tears flows down her face looking towards her struggling at her next words. “Your father has passed away last night....there was an empty bottle of poison beside him on the floor along with a note” She pulls out a letter from her skirt pocket and passes it over to you with a shaky hand attached to the other end of the letter.

Holding up the letter in front of yourself, you slowly open the rough page of crinkles and small water stains in areas of the letter. Directing your eyes at the top of the page you can see the beginning of the last thought your father left you.

Dear my sweet hija,

I can never make up for what I have done to you all these years. I can only hope that doing this will make up for what I did to your mother. It wasn't always hateful times, but after I got upset with her one day because i had just lost my job again. She was just trying to console me, but I was blind with rage and I blacked out. The next thing I knew was my hands around your mothers neck and she stopped moving.

Hija I am sorry for what an evil man your father turned into, but after I laid my hands on you I knew that in order to keep you safe from myself I had to go away so I couldn't hurt you or anyone else again. You deserve a better life and don't need me to hold you back so you are free from me and any obligations. I hope you will find a loving family to love you as much as I loved you.

Good bye my hija

Love your Father

P.s
Your mothers last words were your name and she said she loved you.

You dropped the letter cupping your mouth to silence your internal screams trying to escape through your throat feeling tears staining down your face running down your hands to drop on your shirt. Curling into yourself, you let out a muffled scream shaking back and forth repeatedly with thoughts running through your head trying to understand what was happening. You feel your emotions drain out through your tears leaving you feeling hollow and unresponsive against Luisa trying to console and comfort you.
Suddenly rushing in was another Madrigal female with her curly hair tied up in a red ribbon above her head, her name was known as Doloris, she was known for her super hearing that it was no surprise why she understood what you have been through. She kneels down on the floor beside you are working to console you with kind words to let you know it was going to be alright. “There, there, it's going to be fine. You are somewhere safe and you will not be left alone while you are going through this.” Wrapping her arms around to try and shelter my curled up fragile state. I noticed the tremors started to steady enough for me to look up with reddened eyes and a blank emotionless look. Feeling as though my mind had been sent in an empty void trying to eliminate any and all thoughts so as not to think about what next.

“T..Thank you….”I managed to whisper to both girls causing them to show a sad smile, knowing your struggles that were about to come next weren't over. You knew you had to go back home, but you were going to need to ask for someone to come with you in fear of breaking down on your way back to the house. The rest of the day you were left to sleep off the amount of adrenaline you had in your system causing you to crash hard as soon as the girls left you to sleep away your trauma till you were ready to take your next steps.
