Chapter Text
Nothing felt worse than sitting in a messy man stink fermenting office, twiddling your thumbs and fearfully glancing at your boss as he flipped through paperwork with an look that seemed a mix of annoyed, apathetic with a touch of superiority.
Rosie preferred to be thrown up on changing diapers, having soggy Cheeto puffs shoved into her pockets as little gifts from the snot covered children that made up her day care class in the level below them. Anything was better than this.
Truth be told Rosie loved the kids and all their mess. Kids were easy. You would never have to worry about them scheming or lying through their teeth. Simple little people with simple emotions that were as easy to see on their faces as the stains on their shirts.
The boss cleared his throat snapping Rosie from her thoughts and forcing her to sit up a little straighter. The sound he made was a coughing wet sound, years of smoking packs a day would do that.
“Right. So let’s get this out there. You ain’t in trouble Rosie so don’t look so tense sweetheart.” He was trying to be kind but the way he grinned at her. Eyes shooting down to her knees at the spot of skin that her skirt didn’t cover. She adjusted quickly, pulling the star speckled cloth over her knees and crossing them tight for good measure.
”But the site sure as fuck is.” She resisted the urge to scold him for his language. Reflex. “Ain’t gonna beat around it here Rosie. Without those damn bots no one gives a shit about some backyard pizza joint in some no named town. The malls too close by and the only department that makes me a red cent is that daycare of yours.”
Somehow praise from him wasn’t as flattering as it would be from anyone else. Still Rosie put on a sad smile. “It’s a shame sir…if there is anyway I can help on the main floor? Perhaps bring in more customers-“
“You hike up that skirt of yours auta’ bring them in!” He laughed, deep and wet like it was a struggle to get enough air to make the sound at all. She just smiled trying to fight the red from her cheeks. She hated him.
“Sir I don’t think-“
“Oh I’m just teasing! The whole innocent teacher thing bring in enough of those creeps. This ain’t a titty bar…might turn it into one…” he seemed lost for a second. Tapping his pen on his desk as if honestly going over his future plans to turn Fazbears Pop Up Pizza Palace & Daycare into a strip club. The food was crap enough for it already.
“Nah. We’re shuttin’ down Rosie girl. Whole thing.” His hand swept across the air as he spoke. “The company’s gonna scrap the whole pop up thing since the malls make’um a shit ton of green. These little ventures are just money pits..”
There was silence that passed between them. Rosie hated that she hated this news. The Pizza Palace was a mess. She couldn’t count on one hand how many lawsuits they collected over the few years they had been in business. Busted coin slot rides, food poisoning, lost kids in the germ riddled ball pit. She was pretty sure there was one about a kid getting trapped in one of the arcade cabinets.
But it was her job. And she took pride in making the Daycare a safe and welcoming place for all the kids entrusted to her. It showed in the attendance of her classes and reviews raving about the only good thing in that ‘horrible rat infested restaurant’. The kids needed her, she needed them. A panic shot down to her stomach.
“A-and the daycare?”
Another wave of his hand, cheap golden rings glittering off the dusty fluorescent lighting. “Canned. You do good work Rosie Girl but not good enough to keep this dump above water.”
Another silence. She would have to start all over. Her saving were okay, she maybe had two months to fall back on but after that it would be tight. She might have to start apartment shopping in more low income areas, should she fix up her résumé? Would this place even impress any other companies enough? A soft tapping filled the quiet room, coupled only by the rough grinding whirl of the rusty fan that did nothing to blow the oppressive musk of the room air away. Her legs jiggled with anxiety as she raced through her options. Quietly panicking at the sudden drastic shift this news brought to her life.
“Rosie would ya’ quit that. Makes me itch when you get all mousey on me girl…” She gripped her knees forcing her feet flat on the ground to stop their shaking.
”Sorry…just a lot to take in. Perhaps you could give me a letter of recommendation? I’ll need to find somewhere else-“
“Nah.” Nah? His interrupting was starting to steam her a bit. Her annoyance must have been plastered on her face since his hands came back up to wave her off.
“Nah what I mean is no need. The mall wants ya’. It’s why I said you ain’t in no trouble girly just a change of environment not employment.”
Freddie’s was a large company. Almost too large with what seemed to unimaginable pockets deep enough to open such a massive establishment in the bones of an old mall. The thing was starting to push Disney levels of massive. Race ways, mini golf, bowling and a huge concert hall that not only featured the animatronics but also often live shows with real flesh and blood bands and even the occasional child friendly stage show. There were even talks of putting in theme park like rides outside behind the building itself. Of course they had a daycare for the much smaller children who were not yet fully on board with the massive concerts and more middle age kid activities. Rosie had never been but she saw pictures and even helped plan out a few lesson plan like routines for the attendant there. Apparently they struggled with anything but basic play and safety so the mall often requested Rosie’s help in anything that wasn’t tag or finger paint related.
If the rumors were true as well it was mostly staffed by the animatronics as well. Cuts cost on paying real workers for lunch breaks and health insurance. It was Freddie’s…the workers needed some damn good insurance.
“Right…” Rosie drawed skeptically. Eyes narrowed at her sweaty boss who was still flipping through stacks of papers with massive red ink splashed across their white faces. She didn’t know being in the red was a literal thing. “So I’ll just work there then? A transfer. But I thought the point of that place was being staffed by the robots, not humans. Why not just build another if they are short staffed?” He eyed her for a second, one brow lifting in question.
“Ya’ don’t want it?”
“No! No no oh god no! I do!” She panicked, leaning forward in her chair to make herself seem more investedx “I need it really. I’ve worked here for so long I’m not excited to jump into the job search again but ah…just curious I suppose.”
The boss leaned back in his seat. The poor thing groaning under the weight of too many slices of pizza and to little time on his feet. To her dismay he fumbled into his stained shirt pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. Dangling a slightly bent one from his lip before flicking his lighter on.
“I get’cha. Cute thing like you wouldn’t have a hard time. What are you twenty?”
“Twenty nine…”
“Shame..eh not your fault.”
God she had been so close to reporting this asshole to HR so many times in the past. He was a sexist pig but at least he generally left her alone. Safe for these meetings and the creepy comments about how good she looked in those ‘Cute little star skirts and a house wife apron.’ Not that HR would do much of anything anyway. This was Fazbear's after all. The look she gave him seemed to do the trick as he sputtered on his inhale. Turning slightly to avert his eyes and cough into his hand.
"A-anyway! The keep getting complaints apparently. Kids either love or hate the bot they have working the Daycare. Apparently the thing is creepy and freaks some of the younger ones. Plus they know you're the one writing out lesson plans for it anyway. Figured they would give it a try and see if you two working together might help ease those negative reviews and teach the thing how to work properly."
That seemed a bit..harsh. Rosie had come across some of the animatronics before. Freddy had been a surprise guest at more than one birthdays. He was so friendly and pleasant, always a nice thing to say. Plus he seemed so human like. So full of emotion and wonder with his own thoughts and ideas completely independent of the uninterested 'handler' that came with him each time. Rosie remembered when she was little how all the animatronics were so stiff. Such little movement and always jerky with hollow eyes and twitching jaws. She never really liked them much back then. Some of them smelled like old pennies. But this new Freddie made her feel at least a bit better about the new position. If they were anything like him it would be more than enjoyable. She hummed to herself, happily swaying a little at the thought of a kind coworker to ease her through the days of screaming children and messy diapers.
Papers being shoved in her face cause her to hop in her seat. Her boss arching a brow and wiggling the stack a little under her nose until she carefully took them to flip through the pages.
"Reassignment is easy. They have all your information, you keep the same position and employee id. Only thing you gotta read up on is maintenance."
Rosie hummed along as she thumbed the pages of 'employee conduct'. It was all very familiar. Freddy's was a franchise after all. Their on board training was so stiff with only the random little cartoon bears to break up the long winded sentences on theft prevention and sexual harassment training. She scoffed a little at their zero tolerance policy statement and had to resist the urge to glare up at the boss.
"You mean like cleaning and sanitizing the play area? That was day one here why would they need me to read up on it?" her comment was off handed, slightly annoyed in tone as she knew her boss had no idea what kind of training she had and was hoping to avoid any lost time sitting at a computer watching those horrible white collar animations.
It was his turn to scoff now. Pulling her attention from the stack back to him. "Nah Rosie. The bot. You gotta clean and fix the thing daily."
The room stilled. He knew what he said, the look on his face told her that he was well aware that that was well above her pay grade. She was a preschool teacher not some kind of robotics engineer! "H-hang on a second! You didn't tell them I could do that did you?"
"Well..." He sat back again well aware of the strain he was putting on his office chair as he was careful to hold tight to the edge of the desk. One fat finger scratching his sweaty cheek. "Not in those words no. Said you'd be willing to learn. Don't think they care much since the thing is two bad reviews away from being scrapped anyway."
"What if it breaks down around the kids and they expect me to fix it?! I can't just open up its back and cut the blue wire! Do they even have colored wires?! I-is there a book I can read? Like those lego set build instructions maybe or did you expect me to just wing it?" Rosie was fuming a bit and the boss was really no strange to her soft temper. Red cheeks and brows frowned. She was up from her seat now, hands planted on his sticky desk that she rather not think about setting him with a glare that put even him on edge. "If you set me up so you didn't have to fire me...."
His hands waved wildly in front of his face. His cigarette long forgotten in the ashtray next to his arm. The smoke burning Rosies lungs so close to the source but she refused to back down.
"Nah Rosie girl! Nothing like that! Ya' gotta trust me when I tell ya' it was just to secure the position! Otherwise you would be out of th'job ya' see? Look they have a whole parts and services department in that massive mess down there. If the thing goes rusty you just take it to them and I'm sure they'll do their job. You just...wipe it down make it look shiny. By the time they know you don't have a clue what you're doing I'll have sold this shit hole and be on a beach somewhere tanning my fat ass and you'll be in so good with those brats and upper management they wouldn't give a shit that you don't know your wires! Honest this company is one big blind eye. You do your job well in those cute little outfits and you'll be stuck so deep in their asses it would take a lawsuit to get you fired."
A lawsuit that might very well come quick if something did break and Rosie was tasked with fixing it. Still this job was important. There was no way to get a raise in this dump given the low attendance and poor reviews. But at the Pizzeria it was possible she could even be promoted. With so few human workers if she could make her performance stand out it might mean climbing out of working in dingy side show attraction sites and into a real classroom. Or opening her own child care! And without this little lie she was out on her ass with no job and if she was lucky a coffee stained letter of semi-recommendation from this scumbag.
Rosie deflated and her boss slumped along with her. Feeling the danger pass as she came around.
"So I tell them you're in?"
"....tell them I'm in."
Perhaps not getting a good night sleep wasn't the best idea to keep ones head clear on ones first day at a pizza mega plex filled with busy animatronics, screaming children and annoyed parents. Her feet felt like lead as she hurried after the blond security guard who somehow got saddled with showing the new girl around the massive building. Introducing her to as many human workers that they could run down before they disappeared. Far too busy to stop and chat and far to apathetic to make time regardless. Most were young. Some even seemed to be high school students tapping away on their phones behind the hotdog counter or half asleep as they stocked thousands of cheaply made Glam Rock plushies on the shelf. Vanessa was just as uncaring as the rest of the workers. Though she seemed to at least know her way around and do her job she was less than thrilled to do this task and spend very little time even bothering to learn Rosies name. Having to glance at her clipboard more than once when attempt to address her and giving a sneer each time Rosie tried to politely correct her when she got it wrong. It wasn't her first time having less the agreeable coworkers and at the very least Vanessa wasn't constantly staring at her chest or making crude comments about her skirt. It was a massive improvement in Rosie's eyes.
The one thing that did wake her up was meeting 'the cast' as Vanessa called them. The more advanced animatronics that made up the Glam Rocks band. Each in their own special section of the mall with their own fun little activity designed to suck the money out of desperate parents just trying to appease their sticky fingered children.
Money was first. The pair made their way into the Gator Golf section at the far back of the plex having no trouble spotting the massive robot as he took pictures with kids. Large jaws chopping at the air for a action shot. That bellowing deep laugh he let out as they walked away. A few kids crying at his imposing presence. It hardly seemed to bother the croc at all. In face he looked like he was grinning. It seems they caught his attention as they walked up, his bulky shoulders swiveling around with that massive tail knocking over a cart of Monty collectables a staff bot was trying to sell off to customers.
"Well look who it is! Don't tell me I'm in trouble! What ever it is I swear it was Bonnies fault. Not sure how but ya' know..." He grinned down at the two women. Leaning to get a better look at them as he flicked his star shaped shades down his nose a bit to take them in. "And what do we have here? Another meat sack to join the team eh?" He chuckled, clicking his teeth and if Rosie wasn't mistaken she was sure he licked his lips just a little as he stood back up. Did they have tongues? Was that something they added to these new models? Why?
"Don't be crude Monty. This is....Rosie." another glance at her clip board just to be sure. Rosie tried not to feel to offended. "She's gonna help Sun and Moon in the daycare." That was the first time anyone had told her the names of the animatronics she would be working on. So far it was only referred to as 'The Attendant' which felt so ominous. Sun and Moon sounded at least a little more child friendly.
Monty laughed deep in his chest. Throwing his head back with the force of it. "Good luck with that! Not saying Sun's a bad guy but he's a little tweeked you know what I mean?"
"...Ah...a-afraid I don't." Rosie peeped. Still a bit nervous around the gator. His size alone made her a bit uneasy but he seemed at least friendly enough. In that massive 'I could crush your head in my hand but I'm choosing not to' kinda way.
"Sun works with kids all day. He's just got a lot of energy." Vanessa hufffed, eyeing up the lizard with a look at didn't seem to be working given the cheeky look Monty still sported. "Don't let him scare you. Sun's harmless. Anyway have you seen Chika? She's next on the list."
Monty shrugged. Shoving his glasses back up on his face and turning slightly to face the line of kids that were waiting for pictures with him. "Nah. Eating I would guess. Kitchens maybe? You know here. If it's not stage time she's hunting for scraps."
"Thanks. Real helpful. Come on I'm sure she's around here somewhere." Her sass earned her another laugh from Monty as he fell back into the crowd. Giving Rosie a little nod and a wink as they turned to leave his section.
Rosie had to run to keep pace with Vanessa. The woman walked like her feet were on fire which she supposed was a decent enough trait for a guard to have. They covered ground quickly passing by the different shops and stalls littering the main floor. A few smaller janitor bots rushing past their feet as they set off to clean up some spilled soda or dropped pizza.
"So...he seemed nice." Rosie muttered trying to break the silence they fell between them every time Vanessa wasn't explaining something in a board tone. "A little aggressive but-"
"TAKE A MAP?!"
Rosie damn near fell backwards. Letting out a small yelp of surprise as a small bot in glasses and what looked like a sun hat shoved a folded attraction map under her face. She clutched her chest, taking deep breaths to try and still her racing heart. "...good lord...y-yeah sure. Thank you.." She took it with some hesitancy. Glancing up and Vanessa who for the first time all day cracked a little bit of a smile. She tapped the small bot on the head to grab its attention as Rosie looked over the colorful cartoon map for a few seconds.
"She works here now. Don't go wasting maps on her every time she walks through the door alright? Tell the other's when you dock later tonight. Her employee ID will be in the system tomorrow morning."
The little robot just stared for a second. As if processing Vanessa's words. "Understood." Was all it chirped back before wheeling off to chase a stressed looking mother down. Another folded map in hand ready to scare the life out of her too.
"You'll get used to it..." Vanessa gave a small wave under Rosies nose pulling her away from the sprawling zig zags of walk ways and shop names and back onto her. "They stop after a few days when they figure out who you are. Come on Chika and Roxxie are over here by the Shake Hut."
Rosie gave a nod and folded her new map back up carefully though she could tell it wasn't the right way. Shoving it into her apron pocket for safe keeping knowing full well she was need it for the coming months at least.
Just as Vanessa said two more animatronics were only a few feet away. One cute little chicken looking one was happily ordering what sounded like a decent chunk of the menu while her companion. An annoyed looking Wolf with wild hair and an even more untamed attitude stood admiring herself in the shiny reflection of the metal cart they stood in front of.
"Rox. Chika you got a second?"
Both the animatronics turned at the sound of Vanessa's call. Chika scooping up her arm full of snacks before they hurried over to say hello. Well Chika hurried. Rox spent a few seconds rolling her eyes and groaning like a fifteen year old was just told to get off their phone and engage with their family.
"This is Rosie." She didn't even need her clipboard this time. Rosie tried not to be too excited about that fact and focused on greeting the two female robots that stood in front of her. Both far taller than she expected them to be just like Monty. "She's with Sun and Moon."
"Oooooo I didn't know he had a girlfriend! You gotta tell me all the dets! When did you two meet?! If he all romantic and sweet or stuffy and rude like Monty...Oh oh! Under those big ugly pants of his does he-"
"Chika! Jesus no! She's Sun and Moon's new handler and teacher in the daycare. What is wrong with you..." Vanessa rubbed the bridge of her nose in annoyance. Roxxie chuckled. Punching the other animatronic in the arm and earning herself a 'HEY!' as Chika fumbled with her snacks making sure not to drop any.
"Yeah bolts for brains. Sun never leaves the daycare how the heck would he get a human girlfriend?"
"I don't know online dating? I hear it's huge these days. Or maybe she's got a kid and met him at drop off. You don't know Roxxie!"
"I know more than you that's for sure. Annnnyway-" The wolf shoved past her friend and stood tall in front of Rosie. Leering down much like Monty had only moments before but this seemed less playful. More dominating. She seemed to be making a point. "Roxxie. And this is Chika. Not that it matters if you're gonna be spending all your time in the baby room. We're part of the Glam Rocks. I'm lead guitar. Kinda a big deal you know?"
Rosie knew this type. Always aggressive, pushy and rude. A cover for a massive amount of insecurity, social anxiety and peer pressure. She knew well how to handle kids who felt the need to shove themselves above others.
"It's great to meet you Roxie! I can't wait to hear you play I bet your amazing! Do you do your own hair it's so pretty!" She plastered a sweet smile on her face, beaming at the wolf woman in front of her who took a stumbling step back. If robots could blush she was sure Roxxie would have been ten shades of red. "You think you could teach me to look that cool? I feel so drab standing next to you."
"...y-yeah?" Roxxie stuttered. Tugging on a bit of her hair as she looked anywhere but at the new teacher in front of her. "No foolin' huh? I mean sure I could if you really wanted to. It's not really that hard..." Complement the crap out of her type. It often caught them off guard. All that huffing and puffing was normally a defense against aggressive conversation and belittlement. And given how Vanessa spoke to Monty Rosie was starting to gather that most people didn't really view the band as 'people' and more 'objects'.
Chika seemed to catch on quickly. Though she was shoving what looked like gummie worms in her beak she was setting Roxxie with a cheeky grin before she spoke up.
"Don't mind her but you should totally come to one of our shows! They are like...every two hours. They make a loud announcement ten minuets before so you can't miss it!"
Vanessa shoved herself between the three of them. trying to shoo the two female robots away at little before the conversation started dragging any longer. "Alright you three you can chit chat over lunch all week if you want. I gotta get her to the Daycare before closing." She moved past the two bots and gestured for Rosie to follow. Which she did but not before giving her two new friends a smile and wave.
"We should do that!" She called back to them, noting how they seemed a little more cheery as she walked off. "Lunch I mean!"
"Oh for sure! See ya around girly!" Chika called, dropping a few bags of chips as she tried to wave goodbye to her new friend. Earning a hardy laugh from Roxxie that died out as they rounded the hall.
Vanessa was quiet for a moment as they made there way to way down a brick lined hallway. 'Superstar Daycare' was plastered across the walls every few feet with massive arrows pointing down the way urging guests in the right direction. It was rather quiet in this area. Few of the older kids seemed to have a reason to come screaming down this way and less so their parents leaving on a few smaller toddler like kids and their families to pass the two on their way. Like her old Daycare Rosie assumed most drop offs happened in the morning before parents went to work and pick up wouldn't be for another few hours.
Rosie slowed a bit as they passed by massive murals of what looked like a Sun and Moon character. Advertising a wrapped candy of sorts. Sun and Moon Drops. The mascots must have been the Attendant. They looked...friendly enough. Though the pictures of all the animatronics always looked a bit different from their real life counterpart at the very least these two we human-ish looking.
"Hey...Vanessa?"
"Yeah?" She turned, noting that Roise has stopped in front of the Moon mural.
"My on board paperwork said I would be handling The Daycare Attendant.but there are two?"
"...it's complicated. I'll let them explain it. You'll meet Moon later during nap time. But trust me there's only one."
None of that made any sense and it must have shown on Rosie's face since Vanessa shrugged and waved at her to follow through the big archway that led to a small room with numbered tables. How could 'they' explain it if there was only one robot? If she was going to meet Sun first and Moon during nap time that meant there were surely two robots right? Two different characters were painted on the walls. Maybe she was only meant to look after Sun? But Vanessa kept mentioning Moon as well to the others. The whole thing made Rosie's head spin. The stress about this job creeping back up her spine as they made their way to a small door behind the service desk. She took another second to look out over the massive room bellow this little entrance way. Giant play structures littered the floor space that was covered in what looked like that soft squishy mat flooring. A ball pit that looked like a lap pool. Areas for arts and crafts, what seemed to be a half way castle like play structure and enough toys to keep any kind entertained for hours. What she somehow managed to miss as they passed through at first was the giant golden statue of what Rosie assumed to be Sun and Moon. Two very different looking characters yet still very similar. She was only able to stare at the gaudy looking thing for a few seconds before the door slammed shut behind her.
"You'll use the staff entrance here.." Vanessa pointed out, gesturing to a long hallway that lead to a back door entrance that said 'Staff Only'. "Use staff parking C. The door will be marked with a sun symbol. You're key card will open it up for you. Trust me you don't wanna come in every day through the main entrance. It's a pain in the ass."
"....Staff parking C...okay."
"I'm assuming you'll do what you did at your old place. Check in and computer systems are the same but the kids check in upstairs and get brought down to you so really you won't need to fuss with anything but pick up. Just make sure the right kids go home with the right family. They are given kid number on the Fazbear app. Make sure that number matches with the kid they are trying to get. Otherwise no dice. They gotta have that to take a kid. If I have to deal with one more lawsuit over a kidnapped kid-....never mind."
Vanessa saw the look Rosie gave her. Horrified and shocked bundled into confusion. Kids just went home with the wrong people?! While this place was far busier that her old job it seemed impossible that kids could just go with strangers. Maybe it was a good thing she was here. "Right...so they show the app at the pick up stop and I...?"
"There's a desk in the play room that has all the kids profiles and numbers. Type in parents number to bring up the kids profile. Mark them as picked up then just go find the kid. Easy."
Sure if you have like ten kids a day. Something told Rosie that Vanessa knew very little about the sections she was in charge of patrolling.
"Sun also has a built in database for all the kids profiles. You can just read the number off to him and he can scan the kids to find the right one. Only thing he's good at. It was the old handlers that just tossed kids out the door without checking them out."
That made more sense really. It was nice to know this Sun character was at least equip to do this job on a technical level. The two made their way down another short hall. Stopping only so Vanessa could point to a small flight of stars that was tucked away behind some boxes. "Suns room is up there. That platform you saw in the castle cut out. Not much in there last time I checked but he stays there when the kids are gone. If you can't find him in the playroom that's a good spot to check."
Noted. It somehow warmed Rosie to know the animatronics had their own rooms. Everyone deserved a little spot to call their own. A peaceful safe get away from the loud noises and bright lights of their workspace.
"And here we are." With little warning Vanessa pushed the door open. A flood of bright florescent lights light up the dark backstage like service hall and nearly blinded Rosie in the process. Forcing her to blink a few times to adjust to such a harsh setting as they stepped out on the soft safety floors of the daycare. "This is Super Star Daycare. You're new hell hole until you go nuts and quit." That was meant to be a joke given how Vanessa's shoulders shook as she chuckled at it herself. "And Sun should be....somewhere around here..." she scanned the room. Little children littered the space. At least twenty that Rosie could count at a glance. Some finger painting, some tossing toys back and forth. A few climbing on the play structure and hanging upside down in ways that made Rosie's heart leap into her stomach with worry and struggle to stop herself from intervening. All and all it was an amazing place...if lacking in any kind of basic structure, set activities or even control.
A little girl with wild pigtails rushed past them. Circling Vanessa's feet and causing the woman to huff and stumble out of the way. "Watch it...hey hey slow down! Where's your teacher at? You know...Sunny? You seen him?"
The little girl stopped and stared, looking like a deer caught in headlights as her friends rushed off and away from the angry yelling woman as quickly as they could. The little girl gave a sniffle and took a step back giving a weak little shrug. Eyes darting to behind the slide before she locked back into Vanessa.
"...useless. I can make an announcement-"
Rosie rushed past Vanessa, coming to kneel down in front of the frightened little girl. "Hey sweetie. What's your name?"
"....P-Patty." she muttered, rubbing her nose with a little sob of confusion. She wasn't sure who these strangers were or why one of them was yelling at her and seemed to angry. She just wanted to play with her friends and now even they ran off to safety leaving her alone. It must have been so scary for the poor thing.
"What a pretty name! Well Patty me and my friend are looking for Mr.Sun. It's really important that I find him you wanna know why?"
Patty shook her head, her pigtails slapping her cheeks with the wild motion but she seemed to be calming down, a little smile creeping onto her face as she gave a bit sniff to keep her sobs inside.
"I'm gonna be your new teacher, but to do that we gotta find Mr.Sun. You think you can help me out?"
Patty beamed at Rosie. Two teeth missing giving her the cutest little smile. "I know where he is! I know! Behind the slide! He was playing hide and seek and dosn't think we know were he is but we know! We just didn't find him so we could run around the ball pit. We arn't allowed to do that when he's watching." she rambled for a while much to Vanessa's annoyance before tugging and Rosie's arm. "This way!"
Rosie stood and smiled at Vanessa who simply rolled her eyes and followed behind them.
"At least you're good at this sorta thing..." She muttered in a huff as they made their way to the play structures slide. The closer they got Rosie could almost make out what looked like something hunched over behind the green slide. Or someone given the fact that it was moving, trying it's best to keep still and failing to do so. Vanessa gripped her shoulder. Stopping her and Patty before they could full reach what Rosie assumed was Sun's hiding spot. She planted herself in front which make Rosie only a touch worried about what was about to come out from the shadow of the slide.
"Hey Sun. Come out here I have someone for you to meet. Plus...shouldn't you be watching the kids? They are out here making a mess."
The figure stilled, as if surprised that someone could see him at all before suddenly springing out from the shadows. All long limbs and bright yellow shapes bouncing into place at a speed that has Rosie stumbling back a few steps. Patty at her side on the other hand was giggling and clapping away like this was a regular thing. "There he is! See I told you he was hiding back there! I know all Sun's hiding places!"
"HELLLOOOOOOOO are we done playing hide and seek already?! You took ages to find me I was starting to get worried and OH OH OH Vanessa! What are YOU doing here! You never come to visit this sure is a surprise!"
The massive animatronic stood tall and what Rosie could swear was over ten feet. Lanky and long with striped yellow and red jester pants complete with curl toe shoes topped with jingling bells. Long limbs were wrapped at the wrists with ribbon and even more bells that sounded with each of his happy little hops. But the thing that stood out above all out was the large flat face plate in the same of a sun. The rays looked pointy but seemed to sink into his face place as his spun his face around a few times playfully.
You have a NEW FRIEND oh that's wonderful I love making new friends! Is it a new kid to the daycare! Who could it-!" Sun stilled suddenly. All the playful prancing gone as he stood still and straight. Eyes locked into Rosie as she gave a shy little wave in his direction. She wasn't sure what to do or where to look. He wasn't anything like the others she met today. Even Monty with all his sharp teeth and Roxxie with her stinging attitude. Sun was so....tall. Rosie always liked tall figures.
"This is Rosie. You're new handler and teacher here at the Daycare. She'll be working with you to make sure we don't have any more issues. Plus she's the one that's been drafting up the lesson plans you like so much. So try not to scare her off okay? She's the only one we've got that has a teaching degree. Anyway Rosie this is Sunny. Or Sun. What ever you wanna call him he responds to most things. Like your on board said he's a little-"
Vanessa's words seemed a little distant to the two of them. Both just sort of staring at each other. Sun fumbling with his twitching fingers, rooted to his spot by the slide as he took in Rosie's appetence.
".....you1 outfit is..." he spoke up and over Vanessa. Far softer than his loud, excited ravings only seconds ago. A hand waving across Rosie's figure in an almost embarrassed way.
Rosie perked up bit, looking herself over as if she were worried that maybe she got a stain or something stuck to her skirts.
It was only her normal work uniform. Or at least that's what he old boss had told her though everyone else was allowed to wear jeans. Rosie was stuck in a rather odd but in it's own way cute mash up of what she now realized as Sun and Moons whole color scheme. Her one piece dress skirt was a pretty dark blue with starts speckled across the fabric. The puffy shoulders now made more sense given the almost fantasy like theme this Daycare had going. Plus they matched Sun's striped bright pants. And what finally made the most sense was her strange sun ray headband that looked more like crown. Pulling the whole thing together to be an odd mash up of the two daycare attendants. What once was an eyesore seemed to almost fit in this new setting. The only thing plain about the whole get up was the paint stained white apron she always wore. A must have when working with sticky fingers and even sticker apple juice.
"Oh! Right! Yes my uniform is...a bit odd isn't it! Sorry...my old place was really into theming after this one so I guess it all makes sense now...I'm sure Vanessa won't mind if I change it right?" Vanessa gave a shrug as Rosie looked to her for some support. It was daunting being stared at but the massive robot and even more so when he rushed forward, franticly waving his arms and shaking his head.
"No! Oh no please don't change it! It looks absolutely wonderful! You can keep it on as long as you like!" Sun sputtered, coming to a quick stop in front of her needing to crouch a bit to keep eye contact. "We...we never had someone dress up like us before it's feels...." A massive hand touched against his chest plate as it seemed Sun contemplated what ever this new feeling was. He seemed to struggle for a moment, muttering to himself that sounded almost like he was responding to someone else but he was so high up Rosie had trouble catching it.
"Flattering? Maybe?" She offered, pulling him from his thoughts and back to her. Sun cocked his head to the side a little thinking it over before he gave a shallow nod.
"Y-yes. That feels...right. Flattering. I'm flattered..."
She smiled up at him, trying to ease his nerves a little as she held out her hand. Needing to reach up a bit to match his height.
"Right! Well Flattered I'm Rosie. I hope we can get along."
Sun stared at her hand for a moment. So tiny. Breakable. And funny! He wanted to laugh at her little joke but his voice box wouldn't kick on. He hesitated before slowly wrapping his fingers around her hand. Well really it was her hand and part of her lower arm. But she didn't flinch. Didn't shy away or pull back. She just smiled up at him. Such a sweet kind smile he had never seen before. Not directed at him. His fan's kicked on and whirled in his chest. Was he over heating? Why? That only ever happened when he was running around for hours with no rest breaks. Why did his chest plate feel so hot? He hadn't turned on his warming functions. She was staring at him now. Her smile twitching and softening into a look for worry. He needed to say something, he was just staring at her that was rude. Say something. Anything. Speak up!
'Tell her she's pretty'
"YOU'REPRETTY!"
Both hands clamped over his mouth as he stumbled back. He didn't really just yell that did he? Did he think she was pretty? Were humans pretty to him? Was that rude to say to someone you just met?
"O-oh...thank you!" Rosie didn't look to put off thank goodness. Only giving a shy grin and tucking a bit of hair behind her ear now that he finally let go of her hand. Goodness that was cute! No she was a coworker that seemed inappropriate to think.
'Wow...really making a good first impression here Sun...' 'Hush I'm trying my best!' 'Are you? Because you're making yourself look like an idiot. Just...offer to show her around the day care...do something other than over heat.' 'Right...right!'
"Okkaaay....If you two are doing being...really weird I'll show Rosie around the-" Vanessa reached out to tap Rosie on the shoulder, pulling her attention way from Sun who seemed like he was still having a moment with himself. "So is it like a teacher thing that all of you act like this or-" Rosie chuckled a bit and opened her mouth to respond but was quickly silenced by Sun who sliced his arm between the two of them. Demanding attention in the most literal way possible.
"I got it! I mean I'll show her around! It makes more sense for me to do it! I can introduce her to all the kids, show her the supply closet and medical area! You don't know were all that stuff is Vanessa so I can take it from here! Promise she'll know everything by the end of her shift! Promise Promise!"
Both women stared at the jittering robot who glanced between them quickly waiting for an answer.
"I don't think-"
"No! No it's fine Vanessa really. He makes a good point. You can get back to normal work and Mr.Sun can show me the ropes in here. Who better than the Daycare Attendant himself right?"
Sun flushed. Or he would have if he could. His hands rubbed at his cheeks as he gave Rosie a small shooing wave. "Oh...I'm not a mister! But it would be my honor!"
"See it would be his honor!" Rosie chirped back, both her and Sun looking at Vanessa with pleading eyes. While she was started to warm up to the guard and Sun himself was a lot to take in it make a lot of sense to just jump right into work. She would have to get used to him at some point and what better way to do that than some one on one time. Well one and one with a gang of children nipping at their heels. Still she would prefer it if possible. Sun was...warm. Physically yes he seemed to radiate heat if he stood close to her. But also something about him and he cute mannerisms. The way he bent and moved so gracefully even when he was a nervous mess. It was...fun. Fun was surely the word she was looking for.
There was a silence between the four. Patty seemed to grow bored with the adults and shuffled off to find her friends that had abandoned her at the start leaving just the three of them. Vanessa eyed them both for a moment. Narrowed and observant. At last she seemed to give up with a huff and a shurg.
"Works for me I guess. Less for me to do. Rosie if you need anything or he gives you trouble you can use the phone behind the desk over there to call me. I'm extension three. Also I know you're gonna be busy but try and answer if anyone calls. No one normally does unless it's important and Sun's horrible at picking the thing up." Sun shrunk back a bit and fiddled with his fingers embarrassed. "Other than that try not to quit on your first day. I'll be at the security desk if you need me." With that she spun on her heels, giving a wave over her shoulder as she sped off. As if she couldn't wait to be rid of Rosie and Sun.
It was just the two of them now. Standing awkwardly next to each other. Neither wanting to make the first move.
At last Rosie shifted a bit. Crossing her arms behind her back and rocking up on her feet. "Soo.....who's Moon?"
