Work Header

All bad days come to an end, eventually

Summary:

If Kageyama had to rank the days of this month up to now, today would be by far the worst of them all.

Everything that could go wrong had gone wrong so far.

But thankfully, his boyfriends would waste no time to make sure that he felt loved and cared for.

Work Text:

If Kageyama had to rank the days of this month up to now, today would be by far the worst of them all.

First, he overslept, which caused him to be late for his first class in the morning. Knowing that he was running late anyway, he tried to at least eat something before leaving home, but opening the fridge led him to the discovery that there was no more milk to pour on the cereal he had already put in a bowl.

Grudgingly chewing his sad and dry meal, he paused to contemplate his well-kept hands, only to find another reason to feel grumpy: his nails, painted yesterday, already had small pieces of nail polish missing.

Kageyama sighed, hoping for this day to be over soon.

On the way back home, Kageyama rested his head on the subway window, glad to be seated after an exhausting day. He simply could not concentrate on his classes that day, all the words seemed foreign to his tired mind. At work he messed up way too many orders from the customers, and it took all his willpower (that was not much, to begin with) not to reply to the rude comments he received, giving just a couple of angry glares.

Dragging his body from the final flight of stairs, he reached for his keys and tried putting them in the lock, but as fate seemed to be playing tricks on Kageyama all day, his attempt resulted in the keys falling on the carpet in front of his apartment door. The boy seriously considered just flopping down on the floor and sleeping outside, as it would spare him the embarrassment of crouching to get the damn keys.

Well, it had to be done, so he might as well do it quickly, but not without cursing under his breath for good measure. The sudden movement of bending his body and the weight of his backpack made Kageyama lose balance, and fall hard on his butt.

Eyes closed, the keys finally on his grasp again, he reflected on his life choices. The Universe must have a good reason to be messing with him today, right?

But then, an exasperated groan on the way out of his lips was interrupted by the sound of the door being opened from the inside of the room. In front of Kageyama stood an orange-haired boy, a little bit shorter than him, but with a smile so bright that it would put the sun to shame.

“Kagsy, you’re finally home!”

Hinata’s arms were warm and comforting, a welcomed change from how the world had treated him that day. He wasted no time peppering kisses all over Kageyama’s face, who got giddy from the affection, and pulled him inside. After getting rid of his shoes, coat and backpack (“ I’ll take it to our room, sweetie ”), Kageyama made his way to the living room, finding Kenma laying down on one of the couches apparently finishing a call. The blonde boy turned his face to his boyfriend, extending needy arms in a motion to make Kageyama lay with him.

He had to be very careful not to bother their cat, Cheesecake, as she laid on Kenma’s belly. Slowly, Kageyama managed to find a place for him, resting his head on Kenma’s chest. Nosing his partner’s neck, Kageyama could smell the subtle scent of apples from his shampoo, and let himself relax, finally. He was about to fall asleep when he felt gentle fingers playing with his hair, a soft voice whispering:

“Hey Tobio, wake up babe. Shouyou and I prepared a bath for you, and we just ordered your favorite pizza. Go get cleaned and we can watch that anime about skateboarding while we eat, how about that?” Kenma’s words were followed by a kiss on Kageyama’s forehead, and no, he didn’t want to leave this place. He felt so comfy, so safe , and loved. Kenma knew he would need some convincing, so he moved his body in order to sit and dragged Kageyama with him. Cheesecake hissed and threw them an offended glance before walking towards Hinata, who was just entering the room now.

“Awww baby girl, they were mean to you, weren’t they?”. Shaking his head, he took their cat in his arms, and joined them on the couch before Kenma could get up properly. “We missed you, Kags! Come here, give me a kiss!”

Kageyama absent-mindedly thought that Hinata’s lips tasted like peanuts. He must have been eating that candy, those paçoquitas he got used to eating when he was in Brazil.

In his lovers’ arms, realization hit Kageyama.

Oh, how good it was to be home.
