Work Text:

Derek and Addison lost their spark. They still love each other, sure, but can’t seem to see eye to eye in the bedroom, which is making them both frustrated. Derek vents to Burke, Burke has an idea.

Meredith is a senior in med school who shares an apartment with her best friend, Cristina. Cristina works as an escort to make extra cash and is slowly trying to convince Meredith to get on board with the idea. The job is simple, really. A couple hours a night, a good paycheck and, sometimes, a steamy hookup.

Frustrated at the lack of connection with his wife, Derek let’s his brother convince him it would be a good idea to go out with an escort for one night.

Looking through websites he finds Meredith, a 26 year old doe eyed girl with a mysterious smile. He books a date for that night and tries to back away last minute but Meredith is a breath of fresh air, and her amused look at his nervousness alone makes him want to stay. They talk about everything and nothing at the same time and right before time was up he decides to tell her his real name, being surprised by the blonde doing the same. After a little more light talking drunken Meredith let’s the booze get the best of her and suggests they make out, backing away right after when Derek looked mildly shocked.

She looks at her phone for the time and realizes their time has been up for 20 minutes now, and asks him to finally make a move on her, since that’s what he was there for, after all. They sit side by side and he’s a mess, but they get too close and start making out. Two minutes in he comes back to his senses and backs away in a panic.

Addison calls. Meredith leaves. Derek rushes home to tell his wife.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Addison stands on the opposite side of the bed, her mouth slightly open in shock.

“I came clean! Don’t I get points for coming clean?”

“Points?” Her tone makes Derek instantly regret saying that.

“I don’t know…”

“You want fucking points? You get points for admitting to scarfing down the second half of my panini, not for confessing to spending happy hour in a hotel room with a hooker!” Addison’s voice is hard and she starts pacing.

“She’s an escort.” Derek corrects before he can stop himself.

“Oh, great.”

“She’s an escort, okay? She’s like on med school, okay?”

“Mm-hmm.”

“Sex was never part of the agenda, I swear. I- I made sure it wasn’t. It said it right on the profile.” Derek tried to calm her down.

“You’re a fucking idiot.” She keeps waking around trying to keep the boiling feelings inside.

“Are you… figuring out ways to kill me?” Derek asks unsure, suddenly painfully aware of his wife’s abilities with a scalpel and knowledge of cause of deaths. She could easily make it look like an accident.

But, to his surprise, Addison stops pacing and faces him, arms crossed and a raised eyebrow that made him instantly silent.

“Tell me more.” Her features are impassive but her voice is still harsh, albeit low. “Tell me more about this fascinating young lady.” She basically spits and goes back to pacing.

“It’s not about her.”

“Oh!” Addison exclaims in mockery. “So you did find her fascinating!”

“I don’t know. I mean-“

“That’s well said, Derek.” Addison walks around the bed and gets right in front of him. “Let me rephrase the question. Did you like her?”

Derek is at a loss for words and all he does is stare into piercing green eyes that look broken behind the hard facade.

“Oh my god.” Addison gives a humorless chuckle and walks away, hearing Derek talk to her back.

“This has nothing to do with her. This is about us, okay?”

This makes Addison turn, and Derek’s heart breaks when he sees she’s now on the verge of tears.

“Did anything happen?” Addison asks in a quivering voice.

“We didn’t have sex. We absolutely did not have sex.” Derek quickly says.

“That’s not what I asked, Derek. Did anything happen? I want you to tell me precisely what you did with that girl.”

“We made out, for, like, a brief time… and then I- and then I snapped out of it, and I… and that was it, it was over.” He admits and Addison looks lost as she tries to digest everything.

“Show me.” She walks up to the bed and gets the MacBook.

“Show you what?”

“I want to see her.”

“Honey, that’s not a good idea.”

“Show me.” Addison insists.

Derek sits on the bed and stares back at Addison, unsure of what to do. “Are you serious?”

“Do it.” She’s relentless as he types through the keyboard.

“I think maybe we should talk about this.” He tries again.

“Do it.” She simply raises her hand to shut him up and goes back to her impassive posture.

—————————

“I made him show me what she looked like.” Addison tells her friend Callie as they sip on their drinks by the bar.

“And did he?” Callie asks curiously.

“Yeah… eventually.”

“Was she a total skeeze?”

“Actually…” Addison starts as she gets her phone from her purse to show her best friend. “She looks… exactly like what she is. Med student from Boston.” She passes the phone to Callie. “Look at her skin. Make it bigger.” She zooms in on Meredith’s face. “It’s perfect.”

“Do you ever see that movie “Mask” with Eric Stoltz in the ‘80s?” Callie says making Addison laugh. “It’s like a doppelgänger. Turn it away, please.”

“You’re a good friend.”

“I try.” Callie gives her a small smile.

“I hate her!” Addison grunts.

“You wish he hadn’t told you?” Callie asks confused.

“I don’t know. Probably?” Addison looks at her with an exasperated expression. “I mean, it’s worse than if he just fucked her, right?“ Callie isn’t sure what to say. “He met up with her, he liked her, he confided in her… he made out with her— they made out. We don’t make out anymore… It’s so…” Addison looks back at her martini and plays with the olive. “Intimate.”

“He practically sprinted home to confess at your bedside.” Callie tries to reason. “I mean, who does that, right?”

“Well, fuck.” Addison decides to drink rather than talk.

“You know, he took relationship advice from his loser brother? Was John Mayer out of the country?”

Addison laughs at that and looks behind her when she hears the bells above the door to Emerald City Bar clink.

“So, what are you gonna do?” Callie asks and looks at a smirking Addison, soon noticing a petit figure walking toward them behind the redhead.

“So, which one of you lovely ladies is Lola?” Meredith asks in a curious voice, shifting her gaze from Callie to Addison.

“Well…” Callie looks back at her friend and finishes her drink while the two women walk to a table.

They sit across from each other in a booth, Meredith drinking tequila and Addison scotch.

“Okay, Lola… tell me something about yourself.” Meredith starts, trying to not slur her words. “What are you into? What’s… what’s… what’s your jam?”

“What’s my jam?” Addison chuckles amused as her finger plays around the rim of the glass.

“I don’t know.” Meredith chuckles awkwardly. “Okay… can I be honest with you?“ she whisper-shouts. “I’m a little drunk.”

“No shit. Really?” Addison says in a sarcastic tone as she takes another sip of her drink to hide her smirk.

“Okay, but here’s the thing… I usually- I usually get drunk, because I get so nervous before these things, but you are my first lady date, so I got, like, double double super nervous.” Meredith stutters as she tries to explain, getting lost in the redhead’s cleavage a couple times.

“Well, you’re doing well.” Addison assures her with a sincere small smile.

“Wow, you are really pretty.” Meredith stops to look in her eyes for the first time, taking her face in.

“Okay…” Addison scoffs a little. “For my age?”

“And very… angry.” She absently remarks.

“Are you shrinking me now, Meredith?”

“Wait, what? How did you-“ Meredith was now confused.

“Never mind.” Addison brushes it off and looks at the blonde again, sighing. “Do you ever read a book and you know exactly what’s on the next page?” She looks down before continuing. “There are zero surprises, you know, and you think “I must’ve read this before” but… no way, because it just came out.” Addison seems upset when she backs away from the table. “I’m gonna go. I helped make this mess, and I’m gonna go home and-“

She stops talking when she hears something collapse with the floor. “What was that?” She looks under the table and sees a fork on Meredith’s side of the booth. “Oh, you dropped your-“ she can’t reach it, but when she looks to her side she sees leather booths and looks up to find the blonde standing in front of her.

Meredith sneaks in the booth by her side and brushes cold finger’s on Addison’s inner thigh, making the redhead gasp.

“Surprise.” Meredith gives her a sly smile and Addison’s jaw drops as the blonde’s slender fingers slide up the inside of her dress. “Can you be cool?”

“Yeah.” Addison breathes out and looks around, her heart beating strongly against her ribcage at the prospect of getting caught.

“A little cooler than that, because you look like somebody who’s getting a handjob under the table.” Meredith says quietly in her ear, laying her head on the redhead’s shoulder as her fingers find her panties.

“I am getting a handjob under the table.” Addison retorts and grips the cushion under her when Meredith brushes her fingers through the wet patch on her lace underwear and brings them back to her clit, starting a circular motion that almost makes Addison lose it right then and there.

She gulps and holds her head on her hand trying to play it cool, facing Meredith who’s doing the same.

“Am I doing it right?” Meredith looks unsure for the first time since starting her little stunt. “Do you want me to stop? Shit, am I freaking you out?” She stills her hand as she rambles and Addison almost whines. “This was Cristina’s idea and then you said you had no surprises in life and that made me really sad, actually, and have I mentioned that I’m pretty drunk?”

“Okay, I’m gonna need you to stop blathering and look me in the eye.” Addison interrupts her ramble with a husky voice and gently lays her hand over Meredith’s to signalize what she wants.

Meredith raises her eyebrow and Addison’s voice was like the boost of confidence she needed. She looks Addison in the eyes and resumes her ministrations, slowly coaxing Addison to the edge. Addison can’t avert her eyes from the blonde, captivated by the gray-blue orbes almost hidden behind Meredith’s blown pupils as she feels the tightness in her stomach, digging her nails into her palm to prevent the noises from getting out.

It’s a stare contest and from her peripheral vision she notices Meredith gripping the edge of the cushion as her fingers pace up a little, making Addison lose it and her eyes tear up from holding her moans.

“Okay.” She breathes and pushes Meredith’s hand away, feeling too sensitive. The blonde‘s breathing was a little off and Addison smirked internally noticing she isn’t the only one affected, but suddenly she feels the room get too small and the rush of good feelings she had just experienced die as she realizes what had just happened.

“Are you okay?” Meredith asks in a concerned tone, leaning closer to her.

“I don’t think so.” Addison gets her purse and gets up from her side of the booth, walking down the hall to the bathroom.

“But… but, Lola!” Meredith tries to ask but the redhead is long gone.

In the bathroom, Addison is retouching her makeup when the door opens, revealing Meredith.

“Lola?” She asks in a quiet tone. “I just wanted to make sure…”

“Make sure you got payed?” Addison cuts her off as she rummages her purse for her wallet.

“No. I was actually… worried about you.”

“Oh, the venerable hooker with a heart of gold.” Addison’s sarcasm is back, and it catches Meredith off guard. “Lucky me. Take it.” She hands the money to the blonde.

Meredith takes the money, but with offense. “A, I am not a hooker. And, B, you called me, so…”

“My name is Addison.” She decides to end the game.

“Hi, Addison.” Meredith greets without understand.

“I’m Derek’s wife.” Addison clarifies.

“Okay…”

“Minibar make out guy from last night?” Addison got tired of the oblivious blonde.

“What?“ Now Meredith is shocked instead of confused.

“Yeah.”

“Why would you do this?” She doesn’t understand.

“He liked you. I wanted to find out why.” Addison explains with a humorless chuckle, feeling a little pathetic.

“Well, did you?” Meredith questions. “I mean, find out why he liked me?” She clarifies.

“Yeah.” Addison looks down for a second before staring back into blue eyes. “Unfortunately, I did.” She softens with a small smile.

Meredith gives her a close lipped smile, “Well, I like you right back, Addison.”

There‘s a pregnant pause between them and Meredith shakes her head. “So, I’m… just gonna…” she starts walking to exit the bathroom leaving the redhead alone, but Addison holds her arm, stopping her from walking away.

“Meredith?” The hold in her arm makes Meredith turn around and she’s backed into the wall by the redhead, who holds both sides of her head as she kisses her.

Meredith slides one hand into the red curls and firmly holds her neck, holding her waist with the other to keep Addison close. The redhead is everywhere, grazing her side and face before hooking both arms around her neck. It’s soft and intense and breathtaking and everything Addison didn’t know she was craving for so long.

When they part they were both breathless and Addison leans in one last time, her lips only brushing against Meredith’s.

“Surprise.” She whispers and slips away quickly, leaving a dazed Meredith behind.

Later that evening, after having some miraculously good sex in the kitchen floor, Derek admires his wife who seems to be contemplating life and asks, “What are you thinking?“

She sighs before saying, “I met Meredith today.”

“What?”

“We made out…” Addison adds causally to a shocked looking Derek. “After she gave me a handjob under the table.”

To say Derek is surprised would be the understatement of the year, but Addison is still calm and collected.

She bites her lip before revealing her last secret. “And I probably should’ve told you this a long, long time ago, but, um… she wasn’t my first girl.” Addison stares blankly at the white wooden cabinet in front of them. “Or my second.”

Notes:

So this is an adaptation of the first episode of a show I really love called “you me her”. It’s about a couple who’s been having issues in their marriage (with trying to have kids and connecting to one another) until they meet this girl, or, in our case, Meredith.

They find themselves quickly obsessed with her and end up falling in love.

It’s a polyamorous relationship and all three of them are in love with each other at the same time.

It’s something I’ve always wanted to adapt and I only recently noticed the parallels between the show and the Grey’s Anatomy plot, so I thought it would be really fun to give it a try. I’m a meddison stan (as you can see by the difference in description lol) and I’d still need to figure out how to summarize a 40 minute episode in one chapter without making it painfully long and boring, but it’s something I’d be interested in writing if you’d like to read it.

This is just a little snippet about how they met Meredith, the woman who accidentally changed their lives forever.

In any case, please watch the show and let me know what you think! It’s a show I’ve watched a long time ago and still hold dear to my heart, it taught me a lot about polyamory in a beautiful, light and funny way and made me fall in love with the character and their personalities.
