Work Text:

George was very, very uncomfortable. He ran his hands over his belly, feeling his pups move slightly in his body. His twins were already past the date of their stay, for more than anyone had wanted and imagined and the omega felt like he was going to burst. With two pups as large and still as active as they could be in their cramped space, George felt that at any moment they would make their way into the world, exiting directly through his abdomen.

What a horrible mental image. George made a mental note to never think about that again.

The omega sighed deeply, pressing his palm where he felt one of the pups push insistently against his skin. "You won't get out that way. If you really want to get out you'll have to help me speed up this crap, I'm just as sick of this as you two are."

His twins obviously ignored what their mother was saying, wrestling some more until finally exhausting themselves and falling asleep a few minutes later. George breathed out in relief, now that his litter wasn't using his womb as a bouncy castle. Trying his best to move carefully and not wake up his hyperactive pair, the omega settled back on the couch, as best he could, and set out for a family nap, as long as the pups left him. Not long apparently.

As soon as he closed his eyes, a sudden and quite intense contraction jolted him, pushing all sleep away and making him almost scream. The litter in his belly began to stir and squirm again, now that their home had oppressed them tighter than they were used to (with the false contractions coming and going from time to time). The omega breathed slightly agitated. Okay, good. Apparently the pups were already coming, that was what he had wanted, right?

Standing up from the couch to get to the bag of things for when the twins were born George took it and thought for a moment. His alpha was at work, and he would be there for many more hours. The omega didn't want to be alone to deliver his litter, so without giving it much thought, he headed to the door with the hospital as his destination.

It wasn't usual for omegas to attend to hospitals to give birth, normally the company of their partners in their homes was enough to deliver and welcome the family they created. But for a small omega, with a couple of overdue and not really small pups, not to mention alone at home, it would be best not to risk it.

He called a cab, remembering that Clay had taken the car to work (and even if he hadn't, George felt too shaky to be able to drive) and waited sitting on his porch.

As soon as he saw the car arrive, luckily only about two minutes later, George scrambled to his feet and went to open the rear seat door, but it was locked.

"Wait, are you giving birth or something?"

The omega snorted at the question. "There's a reason I have to go to the hospital."

The man frowned at him, making no attempt to unlock the door. "Yeah... sorry man, but I'd rather save myself a gross mess in my car. Good luck."

And without saying more he started his vehicle and left.

George gaped in front of his house. He couldn't believe what had just happened. A new contraction caught him, reminding him that he had a commitment, one he couldn't put off or delay. Resigned and slightly humiliated, the omega took his phone and called another taxi. A less horrible one, he hoped.

Clay had been having the strangest feeling all day. From the moment he woke up, hugging his omega from behind and feeling their pups move under his hand resting on George's abdomen, until now, sitting in his office making phone calls and paperwork, Clay felt restless.

A call to his cell phone took him out of his mind, immediately alert to find that it was a personal call. Probably his omega.

But the number on the screen was unknown. The alpha looked at it confused, tempted not to answer but still doing it after a few more rings.

"Hello?"

"Clay..." The omega panted softly, moaning afterward. The alpha's senses immediately awakened upon hearing his partner in pain. "The pups are coming, I need you here."

"What?! Really?!" Clay jumped up from his desk, hurrying to pick up his things and ran to the exit, the thought of announcing his early leaving not even crossing his mind.

"Yes, really, oh god." Clay could hear in his voice how he tensed and a few grunts of effort escaped his throat, ending with a high-pitched cry at the end. "They are really fucking coming right now... you better come quick before you miss the birth."

The alpha didn't need more convincing to get into the car and press the accelerator to the limit, aware of the regulations. The least he needed now was to be stopped by the police and take even longer to arrive.

"George!" The door slammed open, startling the people inside. Who Clay supposed was the doctor looked at him with a... not very happy look. On the stretcher, the omega was panting and sweating, looking strained and tired. Although there were no pups in sight yet.

"Clay you fucking-" The little omega cut himself off as what was presumably a contraction gripped him, making him shut up and concentrate on pushing to try to give birth. The alpha came up to him, sitting in the chair next to the gurney and gently combing his hair to try to reassure him.

"My love, I'm so sorry. I'm already here. How are you?"

"Exhausted and sore. These two are too stubborn." He groaned, arching a little off the mattress. "They don't want to come out."

Clay looked at him with an expression of compassion, reaching down to his belly to caress it in gentle circles. A new spasm was not long in coming, making the omega groan and push with impatience. The alpha winced at the force of the contraction under his hand, hearing the pained moans of his partner.

"The head is almost out." The doctor's voice reminded Clay of her presence in the room. Completely focused on his partner in labor, he had forgotten that they weren't alone in the room. Likewise, omegas births used to be a matter of only two people, or more depending on how many individuals made up the relationship. Strangers were rarely present, unless, as with George, the birth could pose some kind of risk, either to the omega or the pups. Still, the doctors mostly attended to make sure everything was okay, intervening as little as possible to avoid stressing the mother and causing even more unnecessary complications. In this case... the situation wasn't looking very good.

"Alright, the head of the first pup is out. Give me a second to check his neck, okay George?" The omega nodded, eyes closed and teeth clenched in pain and discomfort. Feeling a stranger touching him and his pup in such a vulnerable moment awakened his protective instincts, yelling at him to defend himself and protect his baby. Unable to avoid it, a low growl escaped his throat as he felt the woman's hands in his body for the second time during the process. The beta exclaimed a "hmm" that indicated anything but something positive.

"Bad news, the cord is around his neck." The alpha was instantly alarmed, fearing the worst upon hearing that. The doctor continued immediately. "Don't worry, the pup is fine for now, but George. I'm going to need you not to push while I take care of freeing his neck; otherwise your pup could choke before being born, understood?"

The omega nodded again, starting to feel a contraction build up but forced to resist the urge to push as the woman maneuvered to free the pup from the danger of strangulation. A new growl rumbled in his throat, clinging to his mate next to him and wanting to get this over with quickly. Too bad he would still have another to deal with once this one was out.

The beta gave him the go-ahead to continue once it was done and he barely had time to resume his rhythm and push hard, releasing the pup's shoulders and with a little help from the doctor, soon the creature's body was on the woman's hands. She stimulated him quickly until the pup made a small mewling sound, knowing that not necessarily all newborns would cry loudly the first time, and she rose to put him on his mother's chest. The couple watched him spellbound, while the woman pressed a towel over the small body, gently rubbing it and taking care of the umbilical cord, clamping it and waiting a few minutes before cutting it, also putting a light blue beanie on the small head, finally leaving his parents to meet him, while they waited for his brother to arrive.

George uncovered his chest, helping the creature to reach his nipple and begin to eat shyly. The peaceful scene lasted just a couple of minutes, until the omega tensed again, diverting the attention from the firstborn as he felt the other pup remind them of his presence and the pending commitment. George withdrew one of his hands away from his pup to cling to the bed, closing his eyes and starting to push almost immediately.

"Do you want me to take the pup?" Clay asked when he saw the pain come back to George's face. The omega nodded, removing his other hand from the little boy and feeling his heart break when he heard him whine at being separated from him and his food. The alpha held him in his arms, fascinated by the little creature that was their first child. He wasn't going to forget to keep supporting his mate as best he could, holding the baby in one arm while he offered his omega his other hand to squeeze.

The doctor positioned herself again, waiting to see how the process progressed. It soon became clear that things would still not be so easy for the omega and his pups.

"George, I'm afraid I have more bad news. The second pup is breeched." She informed, being able to see the baby's feet peeking out, but not intervening until it was necessary. "We have to get him out soon. I'll need you to push harder and as hard as you can with the contractions."

The omega whined at this, clinging to the metal arms of the bed and writhing uncomfortably. Tiredness was beginning to show itself, which would only make the already difficult task even more difficult. George panted a little, closing his eyes and hearing his first pup whimpering softly next to him. He had to do it for them, to finally have their set of twins with them.

His alpha was whispering words of encouragement to him, one of his hands brushing the hair over his forehead and providing sweet caresses to the back of his hand and his arms. The omega cried in frustration as he felt how slow and interrupted the birth of his second child was being, groaning in exhaustion and wishing it could just end now. From time to time he could feel the doctor's hands guiding and helping the baby's body out of him, triggering his maternal and protective instinct, then feeling the urge to push the woman away and take care of holding the pup himself.

And indeed he did, when the pup had emerged almost to the waist, the position and the woman's touching and poking ended up exasperating him completely, slapping the doctor's hands away and using the arms on the sides of the bed to sit up, ignoring the beta's alarmed and confused words.

"George, be careful! Don't hurt your baby."

As soon as he put his feet on the ground, the omega crouched next to the stretcher, putting his own hands around the body of his offspring and restarting the process. He seemed to have made a good decision, when in just a matter of minutes the little body of his second pup fell into his hands, George lifting him to hug him on his chest and rubbing his back with some vigor until he too emitted a whine, beginning to cry against his chest.

The omega closed his eyes, feeling hands on him again, starting to growl until he recognized his partner's scent, opening his eyes to see Clay in front of him, grabbing him gently and trying to make him stand up again.

"Come on love, please get back on the stretcher."

George shook his head. "Not until I'm done."

The alpha immediately stopped insisting, instead settling next to him and waiting for the last few contractions to do their job, all the while admiring their new pup, wet and crying against his mate's body.

George sighed deeply, finally relieved that it was all over. Or rather that it had just begun, now that they would have a pair of pups to raise. The omega looked down at his twins eating on his chest, admiring the product of his pain and feeling proud of himself. His alpha seemed to have the same ideas in his head, his pride obviously directed towards the exhausted omega.

Their first-born had a light blue beanie on his head, and the second a striped lime-colored one. To help differentiate them more, they both had bracelets with their names written on their wrists. Andrew #1 and Daniel #2.

"And to think that I could have missed it." Clay exclaimed, running his hand through his omega's brown hair.

"I would have hated you forever if you had missed it." George replied, closing his eyes again as he felt his alpha gently comb through his still slightly damp locks.

"I know you'd have, my love." Clay said with a smile.
