Eternal Winter

Summary:

Summer was always your favourite time of the yearly cycles so when you wake up one morning and the world has been covered in ice and snow your reckless nature can't help but want to find out why.

What you didn't expect was to meet a Jotun, discover a family secret and get the best damn orgasm of your life.

Aka I watched the latest WhatIf and it finally pushed me to write Jotun Loki. Please note a lot of this diverges from cannon! Its kind of like a weird mix between whatif and mcu in ways. Just go with it though please xx

Chapter 1: A Day for Discoveries

Chapter Text

The summer seasons were your favourite. You adored the feeling of the warm rays on your skin as you worked in the gardens, the gentle hum of the bees and other insects as they flew around the world. The hot days and light nights, all came together to form the best months of the year in your opinion. You lived for the summer months each and every time they came around you were happier, more excited and you were filled with a sense of wonder and adventure.

Imagine your horror waking up this morning to look out the window and seeing snow as far as your eyes could see.

You called out for your mother as you stared out at the world in disbelief. What could have possibly gone on? The whole of the outside world was blanketed in thick, fluffy white snow. Ice hanging from the rooftops and streetlights. The air slicing the faces of walkers as they struggled on with their mornings. It should have been the peak of the summer cycle. Two weeks before your day of birth, the time of the year when the sun was the hottest and the highest in the sky. The snow glistened under the now dulled and faint sunlight. It was as if someone had literally turned the world on its axis. Nothing made sense.

"No one knows what has happened" your mother said from the doorway of your bedroom. You turned to face her still confused.

"So something has happened?" you asked.

"Well, it's not natural at least" she hummed walking back off through the house.

Your mother was right about that whatever had gone on was most certainly not a naturally occurring event. That's when your impulsive and reckless nature reared its head. You were always one for getting into a little bit of trouble. More often than not you were the last one standing during a round of dares and there had been a handful of times where your perchance for livening the situation up had gotten you into severe trouble with your parents. Not that it had ever stopped you from doing the exact same thing again. Living in your small town on the outskirts of Asgard was as typical as life could get. You had a humble life, the daughter of merchants. Not that you would have ever resented your parents for everything that they had given you. It was a standard affair for the people of your village to either follow into the family business or to try and head into the city to get a more stable job in the royal guard or housekeeping staff. None of those options appealed to you. If you could have your choice you would have already loaded up your cart and have been off exploring the world. The monotony of life was something that drove you wild. You couldn't understand why people would want to live the same day every day. Where was the need for fun? Where was the craving for something more? To have some semblance of control over life? Now you were presented with a mysterious cause of this winter, what were you supposed to do just stay at home and wait for the snow to melt?

Absolutely not.

--

Trudging through the snow was made easier by the fact that you had managed to fish out your heavy snow boots and furred cloak. The only thing that your now appropriate attire didn't help was the fact that you were still no further along in solving your new mystery. Powering on through the local town you were met with confused stares and questions from your neighbours. It seemed like your mother was correct and no one knew the cause for the sudden freeze over. As you edged closer to the forest at the edge of town you opted to take a break and sit down for a moment of rest. Pulling out a small snack you had packed you nibbled on the food as you stared back into the village you had just walked through. The later afternoon, which under normal circumstances would have been bathing in blinding sunlight, was now covered by grey clouds and low light. If you weren't already aware of the time you would have assumed the night was fastly approaching, not a few more hours away.

Your attention turned forwards towards the forest. In theory, the cause of the winter could possibly hiding in there instead of somewhere in town. Any culprit would most likely be looking to avoid being caught to make sure that whatever devious plot they were pulling off would be successful. You cocked your eyebrow towards the frost-covered trees questioningly. It was a potentially bad idea to go into the forest alone, with the visibility as low as it. A potentially very bad idea. Bad ideas were your favourite kind of ideas so with a wicked smirk to yourself you tossed your half-eaten sandwich into a nearby bin and marched onwards. Your mission was strengthened by the temptations of what lay in the trees ahead. Weaving through the edge of the forest was childsplay. You had literally played in these very woods as a child so you could easily navigate yourself to a small clearing in the middle without any panic or worry. Beyond that clearing was another story. The forest was surrounded by a tall, imposing series of rocky mountains and beyond said mountains, there were rumours of secret passageways that lead off of the realm. No one knew where they lead really and none had been brave enough to try and find out. That was something you had always fantasied about, packing up and marching forward until you found yourself at the entrance of one of those passageways. Ready and willing to let it throw you into a new realm and a new life. After your 980th year of birth, you were desperate to leave but money was tight and your parents were ageing. As their only daughter, you were trapped by the responsibilities that life had charted for you before you had even taken your first breath. It was exhausting and frustrating.

Reaching the familiar clearing you set yourself down on a patch of rocks next to a stream of water. Catching your breath you watched as the hot air escaped your lungs and dances in delicate whisps into the evening air. Distracted by your walking you paused now sat and took a second to look around. The sky was darker and the air was definitely colder. Surely you hadn't been walking for that long? Was it almost nighttime already? Studying the trees around you you listened out and could only hear the faint trickle of the water next to you, turning down you gazed at the flowing stream and started to debate if you should continue on or not. If it really was later than you thought then you could end up lost and alone in the night. On the other hand, you couldn't ignore your impulses telling you that you were close. Very close. The sky was darkening not because the night was approaching, but rather because you were standing in the eye of the storm. That you were about to discover the cause for this blasted snow and ice. Unusually your conscience kicked in and convinced you that you should leave. That you were unprepared and unskilled to deal with whatever was coming. Plus it was starting to get really cold. The joints in your fingers were starting to stiffen under the brutal force of the icy wind. Letting out a defeated sigh as you pulled yourself standing you rolled your neck once and stretched out, preparing yourself for the journey back home.

"Well this was successful" you moaned out into the freezing air.

The forest around you had been silent so when a sudden crack of wood answered your comment it caused you to jump in fright. You lost balance and landed on the cold ground with a thud. The snow doing nothing to cushion the blow. Looking up into the trees you could have sworn that you saw the faint movement of shadows behind the trees. Blinking rapidly to try and correct your sight your mind tried to rationalise what you might have been seeing. Surely some form of an animal? Maybe a trick of the lowering light. You had been out here for nearly hours now and you hadn't seen another person in passing, you were sure that you were alone out here.

Then there was another snap. Maybe you weren't alone.

Fear began to spread as fast as the pain from the cold. You scrambled to your feet not wanting to be completely defenceless. You knew that you should be running, by now you should have turned on your heels and be bolting back towards the warmth and safety of home. Damn your lack of self-preservation and need for excitement. You really placed the blame on your parents for your talent for trouble. A talent that might have just trapped you in a dangerous situation. You took a tentative step towards the opposite side of the clearing, still fighting to gain a clear picture of whatever was coming. If you were going to die out here you wanted to at least die being somewhat brave. Your heart stopped at the sound of a guttural and painful cry ripped through the air around you. You caught your breath and were stopped in your place. The cry, or rather the roar had come from the same direction of the snapping wood. You really should be running now.

Something kept you there, call it stupidity or morbid curiosity whatever it was had its grip on you. The roar was unlike anything you had ever heard before. It sounded painful, full of sorrow and fear. Like someone was witnessing the most violent and horrific acts man could inflict upon each other. It was primal. It was beastly. It was raw. It was animalistic.

It was also unmistakbly Asgardian.

You had no time to debate if someone was in need of your help before another cry cut through the silence. Followed by a thunderous boom. Not like a bang of fury or a thunderclap from Thor Odinson. This was a direct, slow boom. Like a footstep. You watched ironically frozen and craned your neck upwards as the sky was further darkened as a large silhouette cast itself over the Asgardian Sky. Squinting your eyes you took an unaware step towards the figure as it clung to the top of the trees beside it for support before straightening its back upright and looking around. Long dark hair cascaded down the figures back, its broad shoulders tensed it is adjusted. Where on all of the realms had the creature come from? Surely something this size couldn't have snuck up on you. Maybe you were hallucinating. Perhaps you hit your head as you fell on the ground and this was all some bizarre dream that your unconscious mind was threading together as you lay abandoned in the snow.

"Ahh, and who do we have here?" its strangely familiar voice called to you.

Perhaps not then.

Snapping out of your confused daze you cleared your throat and gawked as the creature turned into the last of the sunlight and crouched down to look at you properly. All of your fear was washed away by wonder the moment the light hit their skin. The deep azure colour looked rich in the final hours of light. A pair of crimson red eyes narrowed themselves at you with curiosity. Their face was sharp lines and defined features. The ribbed silver markings that covered their forehead and cheekbones glinted when they caught the light. The creature raised its brows at you, seemingly wanting some form of answer from but you stood in awe of its beauty. Maybe it was because this was the first time you had ever seen such a being in the flesh. This had exhilaration and elation running through your veins at lightning speed. You were mesmerised by them. They were stunningly beautiful.

"Does the little one talk?" they chuckled. Their voice was so familiar to you but you couldn't for the life of you place where you had heard it before.

"Are you a frost giant?" you blurted out.

The creature was taken aback by your question, but their lips curled up into a genuine smile as they looked you over.

"She does! And she's clever too" they praised with a deep purr.

Your cheeks immediately began to flush under the giant's approving stare. You awkwardly shrugged and turned your head to the ground. You should not be finding a frost giant of all things attractive. If the people back in the village knew that there was a jotun hiding out in the woods causing this winter then a mob would be assembled within minutes.

"Oh and she's a shy little one" the giant coaxed you into looking back up at them.

Unable to resist you lifted your back up and caught their dazzling smile. In any other situation, you would have said that the mischievous glint in their eyes would have been a sure-fire sign of them flirting with you. The playful, teasing lilt in their voice and the cheeky grin on their face were all points of evidence that collectively said that the fucking frost giant was a horny bastard.

"You never answered my question" you called up feeling a little braver.

"Do I really need to answer that?" they rolled their eyes at you. Technically the answer was no, of course, they didn't.

"Whats a cute little thing like you doing out here all alone?" they asked.

You pursed your lips. Cute? Okay so the frost giant was definitely flirting with you.

"Well, to be perfectly honest I was looking for the cause of all this" you gestured at the clearing around you. "It's summer cycle, we shouldn't be seeing this weather for another couple moon cycles at least."

The giant looked around following your lead and the playfulness fell from their face.

"Ahh, I'm afraid that might be my fault." they hummed.

"What a jotun causing an unexpected winter? Now that doesn't make any sense at all" you laughed.

The giant cracked another smooth smile at your humour. Their tongue poking out to run across their bottom lip. You quirved at not only the sheer size of the muscle but the view of it running seamlessly across that blue lip.

"What are you doing out here?" Are you doing this on purpose?" you quickly asked to avoid staring too much.

"That's a rather complicated story. Why don't I come to you and explain it?" they hummed.

"Come to me? But- I don-" you were cut off by the view of the giants form shrinking down and disappearing under the height of the trees in front.

You twirled around looking out for any incomers but were suddenly all alone in the clearing once more. Shaking your head even more confused you began to wonder if you really were passed out and what on Asgard this bizarre dream could mean when you heard the giant's voice once more, only this time a lot quieter and not as deep or gruff as before.

"Over here little one" they called to you.

Turning around you were stunned. Strutting out of the passageway of trees was a man, still blue, with those attention-grabbing eyes. He looked much more man-like than moments ago. The now non-giant crossed the clearing towards you and greeted you with another charming smile, his eyes saying a lot more than his mouth. Yours had fallen open with the shock and awe. Their non-giant form could have been even more beautiful than their larger appearance. Their skin was still blue and littered with those raised markings and symbols. Physically they were still tall, taller than you by a mile but they still looked lean and muscular. You rather brazenly let your eyes trail all over their body as they made their way towards you. Drinking in the seductive air that they seemed to carry with confidence and ease. It wasn't until you were face to face with them that you managed to get a good look at them and you were flooded with fear once again.

"Holy Shit. You're Loki, shit sorry. I mean you're prince Loki? Of Asgard?" you stumbled over your words.

"Yes it is I, Loki, and please there is no need for that" Loki just laughed at your panic before waving off your attempts at bowing before him.

You straightened your back and stood unsure of what to say or do. Not only had you met a Jotun but he was also Prince Loki?

"You must be confused" he hummed looking you up and down once more "come sit."

He took your hand a guided you to the rocks beside the stream and you both sat down. You tried your hardest not to but you found yourself unable to stop simply looking at him. Taking in every little detail about him and committing them to memory.

"I am originally of Johunheim yes. I was adopted by the Asgardian's but we thought it best to keep my true heritage a secret because of the war that had just finished. Not that I minded my original family left me to die and I have now grown up Prince of the realm. I was quite lucky" H threw you a wink that made your heart stop.

"As for this weather well, as you may or may not know my brother and I have been off for diplomatic travels across the realms. Strengthing relations. Trade deals that type of thing"

You had heard of the brother's tour yes, the whole village had. You nodded slowly as Loki paused for your response.

"Well the tour has run over slightly we were supposed to be back last week just in time for... ah" he trailed off and give you another smile.

"In time for?" you couldn't help but ask.

Loki narrowed his eyes at you, the mischief that he was the god over dancing behind the red in then even in his true form. God, he was still as beautiful as you had found him in his Asgardian form. Surprisingly Loki seemed rather gentlemanly, playful of course but he had been nothing but genuine and kind so far. Rather different from the rumours and stories you had heard about him.

"Ahh well Im afraid that is a conversation that I wouldn't want to impose on a lovely little one such as yourself," he said turning to cast a glance down at the running water beside you beth.

"And why's that?" you nearly scoffed.

Loki turned his gaze back onto you the mischief in his eyes now darker. Almost as if they were a forewarning themselves.

"I'm sure you've heard lots of stories about my true kind. Jotuns are not known for our... control let's say. Especially at certain times of the year. Normally I am kept safely away in the palace with I can be attended to. This year however I found myself stuck out on the tour, so I thought it best to return home to avoid any incidents. Hence this winter, I have very little control over myself and my seidr at the moment and I'm afraid my Jotun abilities can run rather wild right now. I can shrink down to this height but it's too painful to try and mask my true self right now. Amongst the more obvious struggles that I am having to deal with right now." he smirked.

You sat up a little straighter and furrowed your brows at him. Loki just kept staring his eyes falling to your lips every so often before they came back up to meet yours. Suddenly it all made sense. His flirty demeanour, the charisma in this movement and the glitter in his eyes.

"You're in heat" you tilted your head to the side with your words.

"You are a clever little one" he hummed "Yes, which is why I have to get back to the palace. Over the years I have found other ways to contain myself during this week. It's hard when you have to hide your true self but it's a burden that is mine to bear."

He seemed almost sad as he said it.

"Other ways?" you asked unsure of what he meant.

"Well, the more traditional ways are harder to execute when no one knows you are a Jotun little one. So yes we have developed other ways." He said.

"I know," you said before you could stop yourself.

Loki turned his gaze back to you, his eyes narrowing his suspicion before his blue lips curled back up into that devious, dangerous smile.

"I suppose you do" he inched closer, the heat from your breath dancing in the space between you as he leaned closer to your face.

He was temptingly close. your body although still cold from the ice around you was being set ablaze by the fire in his eyes. Your breath hitched as Loki inched even closer to you and licked his lips once more, all sense of being proper and subtle gone. He was in his heat after all.

"And I guess we could suppose that as my Prince. You could argue that it's my duty to help you in this sire situation of yours." you let your voice drop to a lower more teasing tone.

"We could I guess" Loki hummed as he closed the space between you both and brushed his lips against your softly. You could feel them tremble against yours as he tried to hold on and keep his control.

You knew that you would never get another chance like this, to not only fuck a prince but a Jotun prince at that. You suddenly felt hot all over, ice be damned. The temperature of the world around you couldn't reach your body right now. You were hot, wet and wanting. Needing to have him. Ready to lay yourself down and serve your prince. You let out a soft moan as Loki edged temptation and let the tip of his nose run across your neck. Taking a deep breath in and getting a smell of you, it was erotic and primal and your sense went flying.

"Loki" you moaned harder than you intended to but any doubt was erased when you felt his cool breath tingle against your ear.

"Yes? What is it little one?" he purred in your ear.
