Work Text:

Something bad is 'bout to happen to me

I don't know it but I feel it comin'

Might be so sad, might leave my nose running

I just hope she don't wanna leave me

Fire encased the building, casting an overwhelming heat to blow over (Y/N), however, all they felt was a chill passing down their body, fear filing their eyes. Their body reacted on its own, hoping the fence that was put up by firefighters and running towards the inferno, "(Y/N)! FUCKING IDIOT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Hank's voice called out, but the sound of blood pumping deafened them. One foot crossed the other in an unsteady manner, causing (Y/N) to almost toppled over into the burnt grass. Another burst of hot air rushed past (Y/N), just as a wave of panic racked through (Y/N)'s body.

Their legs ran faster.

At the edge of the entrance, (Y/N)'s senses finally reached them, 'What the fuck am I doing? What the fuck am I doing? What the fuck am I doing? Shit, Shit, Shit! I need to get the hell out of here' they thought but their body continued to move against their wishes, entering the scarlet building. If the outside was hot, the inside was what (Y/N) imagined hell was like. The smoke started to fill their lungs as quickly as they could cough it out, the detective's eyes wandering around sharply, trying to find their dear friend,"C-Connor! Where-" they were interrupted by a small coughing fit, "Where the FUCK are you?" (Y/N) called out, lowering themselves to the floor to avoid the fumes. Their head started to get fuzzy, they knew they needed to find Connor, they just couldn't figure out how, and this feeling was getting worse the longer they stayed still. Suddenly, the investigator's training popped up in their head, they needed to sweep the building until they found their friend.

(Y/N) had noticed that the majority of people had already been evacuated, thanks to nearby firefighters as well as police officers and detectives, of which Connor was one. This must-have meant he was on one of the lower levels since a lot of the other officers had come out already. This was good news, but as (Y/N) continued to sweep more and more areas, the panic was rising inside them, they couldn't find their friend and they were getting weaker by the second, smoke filling their lungs more and more, "Connor..! P-please find me..." (Y/N) tried to call out to him, but it just seemed like it was getting more difficult by the second, "P-please... All I hope is that you don't leave me..."

Don't you give me up, please don't give up

Honey, I belong with you, and only you, baby

Only you, my girl, only you, babe

Only you, darling, only you, babe

Only you, my girl, only you, babe

Only you, darling, only you

Connor's breath got slower and slower, the smoke slowly breaking down his inner mechanisms. Slumped in the corner, the fire was slowly crawling over to him when images of his work partner's faces filled his vision. Videos of Hank's constant swearing and (Y/N) recklessness playing back to back, which made a small smile reveal on his lips, "I guess they do say humans see their life all at once when they die" he said with a dry chuckle. Wow, Connor really just made a joke while he was dying. Rather than let that thought consume him, as he felt the whirling of his "organs" begin to slowly stop, he thought of his friends one last time.

"C-connor! Where-"

There was a pause, followed by the sound of coughing; someone was here, and whoever that was was a human. This fact caused his eyes to snap open, recognising the voice and the thoughtless behaviour.

(Y/N).

"Where the FUCK are you?"

"I-I'm here! (Y/N)! Can you hear me?" Just as his speech processor was slowing down, he pushed it to work harder than ever, his voice bouncing off the walls and halls until they vapourised into the fire. Connor knew he didn't have much power left, but if he didn't do something soon, there was less than a 1% chance of being found. He took in a quick breath before his retinal scan booted up, showing a human figure - (Y/N) - crawling around in some rooms further down from him. A spark twinged inside his mechanics, almost like his last wind, giving him the energy to call out once again, much louder this time, "(Y/N)! I'M H-HEr-" his voice box glitched, but he knew his voice found (Y/N)'s ears.

"CONNOR! I'M COMING TO GET YOU!" They screamed, determination surging through their body as they powered on. Connor did what he could, crawling over to the doorway, but a lot of his body was either melting away or malfunctioning because of the heat. He truly was surprised by (Y/N)'s actions, the objective fact was that they should be dead, but by sheer willpower, they were stomping through the hallway, eyes glued on Connor's deep dark iris' until they were face to face, "W-why... How?" he asked them as they looped their arms around his arms, heaving him into their form, "You're going to hurt yourself, leave me!" he demanded, although there wasn't much he could do to fight back against them, he had no strength left, his battery fading out by the second,

"I'm not leaving you, this isn't just about only you!"

Something bad is 'bout to happen to me

Why I feel this way I don't know maybe

I think of her so much it drives me crazy

I just don't want her to leave me

Now that the two were reunited, (Y/N) found their second drive to push through it all. It was like their body wasn't affected by the flicking flames that whipped their body anymore; like they were the one made out of metal and Connor was the human one. He turned his head slightly, allowing him to see the sliver of light peeking out of the doorway and windows as they rounded a corner. They were so close, it was one last push.

But (Y/N)'s body was overheating, sweat pouring off their body in such a quantity it would fill a swimming pool. The door was in sight, the fire had burnt away a lot of the door leaving a wide-open exit for them. With the last of their energy, (Y/N) propelled themself forward, basically tripping out of the building with Connor in their arms. Bracing for the cold hard floor, (Y/N) was met with a happy surprise, landing in someone's arms, eyes fluttering closed as pain engulfed their body.

"Come on (Y/N)! Wake up! Don't leave me here!" A gruff voice called out, "Five... Five more minutes" They mumbled before losing consciousness.

Don't you give me up, please don't give up

Honey, I belong with you and only you, baby

Only you, my girl, only you, babe

Only you, darling, only you, babe

Only you, my girl, only you, babe

Only you, darling, only you

It had been over 30 hours since (Y/N) had rescued Connor out of the burning building. The two had made the local news, many calling (Y/N) a hero for almost sacrificing themselves for an android. But the detective didn't care about that. They had been treated in the hospital, they were covered in many different burns but as soon as they were bandaged up, (Y/N) left to be with Hank. The old man had scolded them for it, as did the doctors and nurses, but (Y/N) only had one thing on their mind. Connor. Hank tried to make (Y/N) rest, putting them into bed so they could sleep while he stayed up for the phone, but there was no hope. Pacing up and down the room is the only thing Hank could hear, with the occasional sob or two, which only made his own heart hur just that fraction more.  After a long and never-ending afternoon, Hank got a call from the maintenance people at a CyberLife store where Connor was being taken care of. They didn't say much, only that they advised coming to the store soon. (Y/N) hadn't moved so quickly before, rushing into the passenger seat of their car, biting their lip and picking at the skin of their fingers as soon as their hands weren't busy. Once they started driving, the two let out a sigh, finally hearing something other than their own thoughts for the first time in what felt like forever. However, that happened to be the song 'Dark Red' By Steve Lacy.

"You have to be kidding me"

What if she's fine

It's my mind that's wrong

And I just let bad thoughts

Linger for far too long

What if (if!), she's fine (fine!)

It's my mind that's wrong

And I just (just!) let bad thoughts (thoughts!)

Linger for far too long

"Hank, do you think my playlist is listening to me?" (Y/N) asked after a long stretch of silence. He didn't even turn to look at his friend, "We have andriods who are walking, talking snitiches, why do you think your music is listening to you?"

"Because it's playing this song at the worst possible time"

They were right. Here they sat, hour 33, waiting to hear some sort of update on Connor, and this song came on. It was a bittersweet moment, really. This was one of(Y/N)'s songs, and this was probably one of (Y/N)'s worst moments. All they could picture was Connor's deactivated body laying on a cold steel table in the shop 10 feet from them, "I just want the phone call, the wait is what is killing me" they whispered, more to themselves but hank replied anyway, "I know how you feel kid, but we gotta keep our head high, they're the professionals in there." (Y/N) nodded their head, letting out a sigh before relaxing into their seat, their eyes falling shut as they finally succumbed to tiredness.

Don't you give me up, please don't give up

Honey, I belong, with you, only you, baby

Only you, my girl, only you, babe

Only you, darling, only you, babe

Only you, my girl, only you, babe

Only you, darling, only you.

"Hello, this is Connor, your Andriod fixed on behalf of CyberLife"
