Work Text:

The drive to the landing strip was silent; not even the radio played as you, Zemo, Sam, and Bucky traveled back to the plane.

You couldn’t help but feel a little guilty. Several years ago, you had left Sharon go and did nothing about it. It was like you were a horse on a racetrack, repeating the same things from before.

You got onto the plane and was greeted by Oeznik once again. He offered you a glass of water and some crackers. You really needed it after this morning’s fight.

“I’m going to go change,” you announced and slung your bag over your shoulder.

You didn’t bother looking at yourself in the mirror after changing into a pair of leggings and a dry-fit t-shirt. You weren’t concerned about the rest of your appearance, only that you needed to eat something before you became sick from low blood sugar. You walked out of the back bedroom and all three of the men gasped when they saw you.

“What,” you questioned. Did you really look that bad?

“You have a gash on your collarbone,” Sam replied to your confused look.

You peeked over to your collarbone and saw a cut peering out from the opening of your shirt. Dry blood covered it and you realized it extended to your shoulder once you looked into your shirt. You must have gotten it while fighting, but never noticed. Plus, you had thrown on a jacket before the fight, so nobody would have caught the cut afterwards. The different style of this shirt revealed the cut unlike the jacket you were wearing before.

“Let me tend to it,” Zemo said and grabbed some supplies from a cabinet by the cockpit entrance.

You didn’t object and moved to the back of the cabin and sat on a bench so Zemo could work on your shoulder. Sam and Bucky followed your movements; most likely out of concern.

Zemo sat down next to you, “I’m going to need you to remove your shirt, or I can cut it.”

You rolled your eyes and took off your shirt. You had a sports bra underneath, so you weren’t particularly worried about showing skin. Plus, you had shown a lot more skin to him last night.

The cut extended to underneath your bra strap and to the top of your shoulder. He gently grabbed the strap and spoke; “May I?”

   A gentleman, as always.

You nodded and he pushed the strap down so you could slip your arm out of it. The material was super stretchy, so it was an easy task. The cut felt sore more than anything, which is probably why you didn’t feel it in the first place.

“They are staring,” Zemo whispered to you. His back was slightly turned to Sam and Bucky, so they couldn’t see that he was talking.

You turned your head to watch his work by cleaning up the dried blood. He used an alcohol wipe, which stung, but you could handle it. “They are just worried,” you assured.

“About your injury or about us,” Zemo questioned as he tore open another alcohol wipe.

Your hair obscured your face so that Sam and Bucky couldn’t read your lips. “Sharon didn’t tell them.”

He smirked slightly and finished cleaning up the dried blood. The cut wasn’t too deep. It wouldn’t need stitches, but it needed to be bandaged. You were just glad it was on your left shoulder and not your right. You still have your dominate arm available for use.

“Ah,” he started applying a cream on your cut. He touches were so light and soothing.

“I did a favor that allowed her to escape to Madripoor. She thought she owed me,” you explained.

“Interesting,” he noted and began to pull out a large bandage and cloth to cover your shoulder. “I am sorry you had to see that back at the lab.”

You gave him a curious look. “You act like I haven’t seen it before. I had also killed four people before I went down into the lab.”

He raised his eyebrows at you while applying the last touches of the bandage. “I heard the gunshots, but I didn’t know you had a gun.”

You mimicked his earlier smirk, “I stole yours. You left it inside your coat pocket.”

“I figured Samuel or James took it,” he said.

“Nope,” you sighed, and his gaze shifted from your arm to your eyes. “I also understand why you did what you did. I just hope you have a plan or I’m going to beat your ass.”

He smiled, “you only have one useful arm.”

“I think you underestimate me,” you raised one eyebrow.

He placed a hand on your knee that was propped up on the bench. You quickly shifted your eyes to Sam and Bucky, but they were busy talking.

“I think you submit pretty easily to me.”

You ignored the double meaning behind his words and the flush of your face. “I don’t know Baron,” you leaned closer to him, almost to the point of brushing against his lips, “I think you are the one who wants to be submissive.”

He moved slightly to try and kiss you, but you pulled away at the last second and stood up to walk over to Sam and Bucky. You pulled your arm back into your sports bra and put on your shirt as you sat down.

“My friend Joaquin just informed me that Donya Madani just passed away recently. Nagel said Karli asked about her. She was in a camp not far from the Baltic Sea,” Sam said to you once you were seated. Zemo lurked nearby and was putting up the medical supplies.

“What city,” Zemo asked while closing the cabinet.

   “Riga,” Sam replied. “Why?”

“I have a place we can go,” Zemo replied and sat down in the seat next to yours.

   “Oeznik, we are changing course.’

-

The city of Riga was beautiful. The four of you walked through the cobblestone streets where many people were riding bikes or buying from little shops. The architecture was equally as fascinating. You wished you could have gone to places like this as a SHIELD agent. Sokovia was similar in the layout, but you never got a change to explore the city because your business there involved being in sketchy locations and posing as a club patron.

“We are here,” Zemo announced as you all approached a building with a black metal gate in the doorway. It was next to a small bakery that smelled wonderful as you passed by it. Zemo must have noticed the way you eyed the store because he walked down the steps from the building and stopped next to you.

“Do you want something,” he asked and gestured to the bakery. “My treat.”

   “No,” you lied.

He detected the lie, but didn’t say anything, instead he walked back to the gate and led everyone inside. Several stairs and a beautiful wooden double door set later, you were all inside a lush apartment suite that was modern in design, but still held charming characteristics through the color scheme.

“I have two master suites on one side of the penthouse and two smaller rooms on the other.” Zemo explained with hand gestures to indicate which side the rooms were on. “I get one master suite and I think our injured friend here deserves the other.”

“You better not be up to something,” Sam threatened.

“I would never take advantage of someone,” Zemo defended himself.

Sam narrowed his eyes, “you literally took advantage of Bucky back in Madripoor and by using his code words in 2016.”

“A means to an end back then,” Zemo fired back. “And I had to get us to Selby. I would have never let it get as far for her to abuse him in any way. I just had to tempt her into giving us information.”

“You made him participate in a make out session,” Sam noted.

“He would have been happy kissing our dear friend even if I hadn’t told him to,” Zemo’s eyes flashed to yours. Bucky’s face turned slightly red. “And it was also a life-or-death situation. We were all stuck doing things we did not want to do.”

“Are you saying you didn’t want to pretend to be my partner and touch all over me,” you joked.

He tilted his head slightly before tossing up his hand, “no I do, but in a more consensual and private setting.”

Yours and Sam’s mouths dropped open. Bucky began crossing over to confront Zemo, but Sam snapped out of his shock and stopped him from doing so by putting a hand on his shoulder.

“I am merely joking.” Zemo still appeared smug, but it appeased both of the men.

The scene between Sam and Bucky reminded you of the days back in Wakanda. Steve and Bucky were always the close ones, but Sam and Bucky had gotten closer, especially when Steve was stuck carrying out missions. Sam was able to ground Bucky during his moments of anger and Bucky was able to ground Sam back to reality when he tried to go above and beyond. They fought all of the time, but they were so good for each other as partners. They balanced each other out.

That funny feeling of familiarity started creeping back in. It was as if you were going full circle, a horse on a racetrack.

You rolled your eyes, “in your dreams Baron.”

The tension settled down between all four of you. You announced that you were going to take a bath while Sam and Bucky said they would be taking a walk. None of you were worried about Zemo leaving because he wanted the same thing you wanted. He couldn’t do that without help, especially as a wanted criminal.

The master bath was large. It housed a wide clawfoot tub in the center. The same architecture in the main part of the apartment was appeared in there. The ceiling was high up and let in natural light from smaller windows near the ceiling. Zemo had informed you that the place was stocked up, but you didn’t realize there would be soaps and fancy hair products arranged by the bathtub. It was better than what you had at home.

You stripped off your clothes and grabbed a robe that was hanging from the wall on the opposite side of the tub. You let hot water run as you investigated your face in the mirror. You looked fine for the most part, but you had a small cut right above your eyebrow. Nothing serious, it just looked like a long papercut. It would heal quickly. The gash on your shoulder was the worst of it. You carefully removed the bandages but left the waterproof seal on. Zemo had thought of it, but you hadn’t noticed him putting it on. Probably because you were too busy flirting with him.

You slipped on the robe and put a bubble solution into the running water. Cherry smelling bubbles started to fill the tub, but it was still taking a while to fill due to its size.

You contemplated just getting in after five minutes when you heard a knock at the door. You had a robe on, so you supposed you were decent enough.

   “Come in,” you called.

Zemo walked into the bathroom and noticed your clothes on the floor and you in just a robe. He shut the door behind him and approached you. He was holding a brown paper bag.

“For you, Schatz,” he smiled and handed you the bag. Inside was wrapped squares of an unfamiliar spongey food. “It is Latvian sourdough apple cake from the bakery downstairs.”

“Thank you,” you said and unwrapped the dessert. “You didn’t have to do that.”

He waved you off, “you were hungry.”

You were stopped from replying by the bite of the sourdough cake in your mouth. It was delicious. Just enough sweetness and the fruity taste from the apples was the best part.

“It is really good,” you told him after you had finished a piece. “I will eat more of these after my bath.”

“Let me know if you want more or something else,” he said to you. He went to turn out of the room but paused momentarily. “Do you need any assistance?”

“I think you are just trying to see me naked,” you joked and set the bag on the counter.

He shook his head, “I have already seen you half naked, even if it was only in the dark.”

“Fair point, but I don’t want us getting caught by Sam and Bucky.”

He refrained from replying because of the sound of something from the living room. “Speaking of which,” he murmured. He opened the bathroom doors to find Sam and Bucky looking around, most likely for him.

You followed him out the door and that’s when Sam and Bucky noticed you two.

“What the hell were you doing,” Sam groaned.

Zemo rolled his eyes, “I was bringing them food from the bakery.”

   Repeated situation. Another racetrack.

“He knocked and I let him in. I’m in a robe,” you said, trying to defuse the situation.

“He is getting suspicious,” Sam started to raise his voice. “I don’t like the way he acts around you.”

“A man acting flirty around me,” you said sarcastically. “I have never been around someone like that, especially because I am not drop dead gorgeous.”

“Your narcissism is showing,” Sam said to you.

You glared at him, “I would never do anything with Zemo, and he isn’t the type to try something. A flirty guy is nothing I can’t handle.” You assured the two men but left before they could say anything else. You were tired of the bickering.

The bath water had finished filling by the time you returned to the bathroom. You turned it off and settled yourself into the water. It felt good on your aching muscles. You knew you couldn’t stay in long because you all need to get to work to find Donya and work your way to the Flagsmashers.

You washed your hair, face, and body before draining the tub. Your skin was red from the temperature of the bath water, which left you wanting to cool off. Luckily the air conditioner was running. You felt perfectly contempt. You weren’t sure where the towels were, so you tried one of the doors to the left that could be a closet, only it led to another room.

“Whose room is this,” you asked into the darkness.

“That would be mine,” a familiar voice sounded from the dark room. Suddenly, Zemo emerged into the light shining from the bathroom door.

“Fuck,” you said as you realized you were naked.

He was looking down at the ground. “I stopped looking when I realized you weren’t wearing anything.”

   “Where’s the towels,” you asked.

“Right hand cabinet. Also, the door on the other side is your room.”

“Real subtle,” you groaned and grabbed a towel from the cabinet. “I’m assuming you planned for our rooms to be connected on purpose?”

You tapped his arm to indicate that you were decent with a towel covering your body. He met your eyes, “I usually lock this entrance on the bathroom side so nobody can come into the bathroom, especially with guests.”

“I somehow don’t believe you,” you laughed. “Can you put my bandage on?”

He nodded and told you to wait for him to bring back supplies. You went into his room and turning on the light. This room was equally as extravagant. The bedding was extremely plush, and a chandelier hung from above. Antique furniture was displayed across the room. You decided to sit on the bed in your towel and wait for him to return, but then a better thought entered your mind.

You quickly dried yourself off before deciding to settle onto the bed, completely naked. You were tired of the sexual tension, you just wanted to be fucked.

You got exactly the reaction you were hoping to get.

Zemo had closed the door with eyes adverted down, obviously trying to conceal the fact that he was getting medical supplies for you from Sam and Bucky. He didn’t look up until he closed the door and turned to his bed.

That’s when he dropped all of the supplies.

   And then locked the door.

“Color me surprised,” he grinned and approached the bed. “I wasn’t expecting this.”

   “You’re welcome,” you said nonchalantly.

“You,” he stripped off his jacket, “are,” next went his holster, “absolutely,” he threw off his shirt, “beautiful.”

He climbed onto the bed where you lay and hovered over you, eyes scanning over every part of your body. He was already hard; you could see the bulge in his pants.

“I have been waiting for this,” he admitted and removed his belt. “I just never thought you wanted this.”

“I have been flirting with you this entire time,” you laughed and pushed his head down to be close to yours. “I think I was clear when I said I wanted you to do more than finger me.”

“You were also drunk,” he pointed out.

   You smiled, “I’m sober now.”

You didn’t give him time to respond because you pressed his lips to yours. His cologne was intoxicating.

   Everything about him is intoxicating.

You barely stifled a moan when he bit your lip. He pulled back and pressed a finger to your lips. “You can’t make any noises, or we will get caught. Can you be a good girl and be quiet for me?”

His words make your stomach flutter, never mind the fact that he had misgendered you. You didn’t care that much because you were horny. You nodded your head and moved his lips back to yours. The connection was brief before he started to move onto your neck. He kissed it softly and moved his tongue down your neck. He stopped once he reached your breasts.

“I see I left some marks,” he lightly traced over the hickeys.

He repeated the same movements he did last night, but this time there was no fabric in the way.

He took a nipple into his mouth and sucked hard. You grimaced from the pleasure and pain. He then started to make his way back up your body. You used his closeness to your advantage to take off his pants. You unbuttoned and pulled down the zipper. He smiled against your lips.

“You’re so eager,” he teased and slid off his pants. The only thing left between the two of you was his boxers. “Let me please you first.”

   Such a gentleman.

   “No,” you commanded.

   “No?”

“Lay down,” you sat up and pushed him to lay on the bed. He was confused, but equally as excited. He looked up at you with wide eyes. He did not know what you were going to do next.

Your hands shook slightly as you moved over him. Your legs straddled his chest, and his eyes were level with your wet pussy. Now he was really intrigued.

You decided to just go for it. You moved so your cunt was right over his face. You could only see his eyes which were giving you the encouragement to sit. You slowly sat on his face; your thighs wrapped around his face. He needed no instruction and immediately put his hands on your hips to hold you steady while he moved his tongue around your clit. You were struggling to hold back the moans. His tongue was soft and moved around your swollen clit. It felt so good that you couldn’t help but whimper since you couldn’t be loud. The need to make noises became even worse as he started sucking on your clit.

“C-choke me,” you let out and leaned your forehead against the headboard.

He removed one of his hands from your hips and snaked it around to put around your neck. The one hand that remained on your hip dug in to keep you on his face. It was going to leave bruises. You liked that.

He sucked harder and slightly squeezed on your throat. It was getting harder to breathe, but it helped suppress your moans. You moved up his face and his tongue was going inside of your pussy. His nose was on your clit, and you couldn’t help but start to grind against him. The movement made his nose massage your clit while Zemo was eating you out. His tongue moved in and out and you moved faster against him.

You turned around to notice pre-cum leaking through his boxers. You turned yourself around on his face and leaned over to pull his dick free from his boxers. Zemo continued to eat you out while you rolled your hips against his face. You removed his underwear and was met with his dick once again. It was dark the last time you saw it, but you remembered how the large girth felt in your hand.

You licked from the base all the way to the tip, tasting pre-cum on your tongue. He groaned against your pussy, which made you excited. You slowly started to suck on his tip then worked your way down. It was agonizingly slow, but you wanted to be able to handle his length. You hollowed out your cheeks as you made it down to the base. Your tongue danced across him while you bobbed up and down against him. You started going faster and his grip on you tightened. You could only hum from pleasure while his dick was in your mouth, but you knew you were about to finish.

“Fuck,” you whispered and felt your walls tighten as you came all over his face. He licked up your cum and wetness while you finished your orgasm. Your legs shook and you weren’t sure if you could move off of him. Luckily, he took care of that for you by rolling you off of him.

   “Please,” you panted, “fuck me.”

He happily obliged and flipped you over. You arched your back and lifted your ass up to him. You were shaking from your previous orgasm and from excitement.

He teased your opening by rubbing himself between your folds, gathering up the wetness. He then slowly started to push himself into you, waiting for you to tell him anything. You winced at his size, but your walls were starting to adjust. You felt his stomach against your ass and knew he was all the way in. His hands gripped your hips and he pulled out of you before going back in. He was going slow at first, but then started going faster. He moved to hold your entire body with his arm and leaned forward so he was right by your ear. His hand crossed your body and went upwards to wrap around your neck. This would hopefully keep you quiet. He started going faster, each time he was hitting your g-spot. You were overcome with pleasure, his moans in your ear just furthering the sensation in your pussy. You knew you weren’t going to last long with your second orgasm. You could already feel your walls starting to tighten as he pushed deeper into you.

“Budi dobra devojka i dođi po mene,” he whispered against your ear, giving you permission to come. You let your control falter as you felt cum pooling around his dick. He continued to fuck you through your orgasm, chasing his own. The overstimulation was killing you in a good way, but he pushed deep into you one more time before you felt his warm seed filling inside of you. He pushed out of you before rolling off of you. He watched you lay there, both of you panting from exhaustion.

“Is that what you want,” he laughed.

You turned your head to the side to look at him. His perfectly neat hair was out of place. He looked attractive to you like this. “And then some,” you replied.

He smiled at you before getting up and heading to the bathroom. When he returned, he had two damp washcloths and told you to flip over. He used one of them to clean up the mess of his cum between your legs, and the other to wipe up the sweat from your body.

“Where’s your hairbrush,” he asked once he finished cleaning you.

“My bag,” you said with confusion.

He left and came back with your hairbrush. “Sit up,” he told you and sat behind you on the bed. He started brushing your hair, getting rid of the tangles from your wet hair. His movements were light, and it was very relaxing. You could feel yourself getting tired once he had finished. He left once again and returned with your clothes.

“Thank you,” you told him as you started putting on the clothes he supplied you.

“Of course,” he replied and gathered up his clothes and the washcloths. “I am going to do everyone’s laundry.”

You finished buttoning your pants and moved close to him. You looked up into his eyes. He responded by wrapping an arm around your waist and pressing a kiss to your forehead. You enjoyed his affection and noticed he liked to take care of his guests. Although he wasn’t brushing Sam and Bucky’s hair, you saw the way he interacted with them; like he wanted to make sure they were okay.

“Let me put on your bandage.”

He picked up the previously dropped medical supplies and started dressing your wound. You had never felt this much concern from someone since you were a kid. No former relationships had been as loving as the situationship you found yourself in. You assumed that it would just be a one-time thing, but you felt drawn to him. Zemo of all people. You didn’t understand it, but you wouldn’t complain if you found yourself in his bed again.

“I’m going to shower, why don’t you lay down in here for a bit,” he finished bandaging you and gave you a kiss on the cheek before retreating to the bathroom.

You laid on the side of the bed and on top of the covers. You wish you could sleep, but you knew you had to be awake for the task ahead of you. You all needed to find Madani. She was they key to finding Karli, the leader of the Flagsmashers.

You should have been in the living room consulting with Sam and Bucky, but you weren’t sure you could walk there without your legs collapsing underneath you. You could blame it on the fight, but then they might try to assess the damage. They did not need to see the bruises on your hips.

You decided to walk to your room, lest you were found in Zemo’s room. Your legs were shaking slightly, but the more you moved the more the shakiness faded. You passed through the bathroom, but Zemo didn’t see through the fogged-up shower in the corner of the room. You opened the door to your room and found it similarly decorated to Zemo’s. The sheets were a different design, but that was the only difference. One of the boys must have moved your stuff into here while you were bathing.

The shower had turned off and you laid in your own bed. You thought you could doze off but a knock sounded at your door.

   “You need to see this.”

You opened the door and found Sam on the other side. You followed him onto the couches in the living area. Bucky was on his phone and Sam pounded on Zemo’s door telling him to come out.

Zemo stepped out in a robe. He hadn’t bothered to put on a shirt and his chest hair peeked out from the top of it. He had brushed his hair back, but that same stubborn piece had escaped and rested on his forehead.

Sam paused and glared at him, “when did you take a shower? You never went into the bathroom.”

Zemo, calculated as always, had the perfect response. “I have my own bathroom. You and Bucky share one, but I get my own.”

That satisfied Sam enough that he gestured you and Zemo to the couches. Bucky held up his phone. It was today’s news report.

Flagsmashers bomb local GRC supply center.

“She’s out of control,” Zemo muttered.

“She only became violent when provoked,” Sam said. “She had the supplies, so why did she plant a bomb?”

   “I know why,” Zemo spoke.

Bucky rolled his eyes, “I forget that you know all about bombs after you killed twelve people.”

Zemo folded his arms, “I knew about bombs before I was a criminal. You all forget I am former military.”

“I never learned how to assemble a bomb when I was in the air force,” Sam pointed out.

Zemo raised an eyebrow, “me and my squadron carried out assassinations by several different methods. I coordinated the attacks. I am a criminal mastermind and brilliant with tactical objectives.”

   “Brag much,” you scoffed.

“Anyways,” he gave you a look, “she wants to make a statement. The only reason she would do this is to draw attention to her cause and let them know how powerful she is.”

“I have to talk to her,” Sam said.

“I’m afraid she is beyond reason,” Zemo told him.

“She in pain right now. She’s dealing with loss,” Sam sighed. “She is vulnerable and might just listen. I have to try.”

“First,” Bucky stood up, “we need to find Madani.”

-

“She’s a pillar of the community,” Sam said to your group while you walked to a local refugee center. “They are bound to have a large get-together because of her death. That’s where we find Karli.”

You approached the refugee commune. People stared at your group and walked away.

“I’m going to go talk to people and find out when and where the funeral is,” Sam said before going up a set of stairs.

Bucky did not look like he wanted to talk to people. There was also the possibility that people would recognize him as an Avenger or as a killer. Zemo might be recognizable from the news to the adults, so that left you to try and get information. A group of kids were drawing on a sketch pad in the corner of the courtyard. You slowly approached them and asked to sit with them. They reluctantly said yes, and they handed you a piece of paper.

“I’ve never been good at drawing,” you admitted to them.

“Inga is our best artist,” a little girl with blonde hair told you. She had big brown eyes and looked to be about seven. “Look what she drew me!”

She held up a picture of a horse. It was an excellent drawing. You could tell it was a child that drew it, based on the shaky lines, but other than that it was amazing.

“Is that your favorite animal,” you asked her.

She thought for a moment before answering. “No. I like cats.”

You smiled at her and she smiled back, but she dropped it and peered at something from behind you. You turned and saw Zemo approaching your group.

“I come bearing gifts,” he said and pulled out a paper bag and his wallet. He took out a wrapped treat from the bag and handed one to each of the four kids.

   “Turkish delight,” he told them.

The kids were hesitant to eat the candy, but then Zemo handed each of them fifty euros. Their eyes widened at it, and they opened their candy to eat after pocketing the money.

He gave them a wave before standing farther back next to Bucky. They were within earshot, but far enough away that the kids wouldn’t be unnerved by their presence.

The children ate their candy in silence while you attempted to draw. You could hear Bucky and Zemo talking. They were keeping their voices low, but you had good hearing.

“They are very good with children,” Zemo told Bucky. “Does she have a child of her own?”

“Not that I know of,” Bucky answered. “I think most kids are scared of me though.”

“That’s true,” Zemo replied, “but you probably do a fine job when they get to know you. The trick is to talk to them like they are adults, even toddlers. It helps them learn words better and they feel important.”

“I can’t baby talk anyways.” You heard footsteps back away and figured Bucky was going to try his luck with finding Madani’s funeral.

You finished your drawing of a cat and gave it to the girl who said cats were her favorite animal. She smiled at you and clutched the drawing close to her. You thanked all of the children for letting you sit before getting up and finding your way back to Bucky.

“What was Zemo doing,” he asked once you approached him.

“Giving the kids candy,” you replied and leaned against the stone wall.

A silence fell between the two of you as you watched Zemo make his way through the courtyard. He was giving the children money and candy. He stopped to talk to some of them, but you weren’t sure what he was saying.

“Did you have fun the other day,” Bucky asked you.

You shifted your focus to him, “what are you talking about?”

“If you didn’t feel the same you should have told me.” He looked down.

“I didn’t want to ruin things between us,” you said.

He sighed and turned to face you. “I understand that but it threw me for a loop when you-“ he paused, “you know. I’m getting over it, but it did hurt.”

“I’m sorry,” you put a hand on his arm. “I didn’t want to confront you. I am just having fun right now and don’t want to deal with feelings. The blip took away years of my life, now I just want to live my life to the fullest.”

He laughed, “helping your friends track super soldiers while sleeping in the same apartment as a war criminal certainly sounds like living life to the fullest.”

“You got that right,” you grinned and saw Zemo heading back towards you and Bucky. His eyes moved to see your hand on Bucky’s arm. You pulled it back suddenly.

“Cute kids,” he said before walking out of the refugee center.

Sam appeared from down the stairs. “I got nothing.”

   “Same here,” you said.

He put a hand up to his head. “Let’s go see if Sharon knows anything.”

-

Back at the penthouse, Zemo started brewing tea for everyone. Bucky and Sam were bickering again over who knows what. You sat at the counter near Zemo, out of ear shot of the other two.

“You thought I had a kid,” you said as he was pouring tea into glasses.

“I didn’t think you heard that,” he said and looked up from pouring the tea. “You haven’t told me much about yourself, so I wasn’t sure.”

“I like kids, but not sure I would have my own. I got other things on my mind.”

“Understandable, but maybe James would like kids one day.”

“Excuse me,” you said a bit too loudly. Sam and Bucky turned to look at you, but you waved it off.

“I saw you two earlier,” he focused on finishing pouring the tea. “You would be a good partner for him.”

You scoffed, “we literally plotted against him so he would get over having feelings for me.”

He looked back at you, “you could have just wanted to be with me and needed an excuse.”

You gave him a dumbfounded look. “The business party idea was yours.”

He shrugged, “I did want to kiss you again.”

You lowered your voice, “and I slept with you. Does that convince you that I don’t want to be with Bucky?”

“Sleeping with someone doesn’t mean you are absent of feelings for someone else,” he pointed out.

You threw your hands up in exasperation. “What is wrong with you? Are you jealous?”

He shook his head, “No I am not. Just curious.”

You groaned, “if I knew you were going to be like this, I wouldn’t have slept with you.”

He laughed, “so does that mean there won’t be a second time?”

“No,” you moved from your seat, “you’re pissing me off.”

Sam and Bucky turned from their conversation to look between you and Zemo. He had his brows furrowed and was still staring at you.

Back to the way things were when you first encountered him, you thought.

   Another lap around the racetrack.
