Chapter Text
There were only a few hours left until the dinner, and Jenny had just left. Her eyes started getting glossier by the tears forming. After all that she had done for her and Nate's relationship, finding out that he was still pining for her best friend had been a punch in the gut. Harder than she's felt since finding out about their one-time hookup. But no. This was worse.
This time it was after she gave him another chance. Another time his attention was towards someone who wasn't her. She never wanted to admit it out loud but she knew. They were breaking. Their future she had been imagining since she was little, was coming to an end.
She didn't know what to do. Her mother seemed excited earlier about dinner. Mentioning Anne talking about wanting Blair to try on her wedding ring. Blair had been dreaming of wearing the band around her finger for so long while living a fairytale life with her devoted companion. Blair Archibald had been the dream for so long, but now it was over.
She didn't want to do anything with the Archibalds anymore.

Now Blair was sitting on the Archibalds couch. Nate next to her and their parents across on the other sofa.
"Blair, why don't you try it on." Howard Archibald encouraged.
"No thank you," Blair responded. "It's alright."
"Yes, I would like to see it." her mother added.
"Anne, give it to Blair." Nate's father pushed again.
"Dad she doesn't want to try on the ring," her supposed prince-like boyfriend responded.
"Howie, why don't we just let it alone?" Anne replied.
"Just give it to the girl, Anne." Howard pushed once more. Anne got up and slid the band off handing it to Blair.
Now holding the ring she long desired since her childhood, she didn't feel excited. If this was a day ago, Blair would be dancing with it on admiring the piece. But now when she slides it on, It doesn't feel right. More uncomfortable than pleasant.
"That's what I'm talking about," Howard exclaimed.
"Well it's very pretty." her mother complimented.
"Looks magnificent" Howard added.
"Thank you." Blair quickly commented, sliding the ring off.
"It's perfect for you," Anne adds.
Blair can't help but think how it doesn't feel that way.
Then Nate gets up and he and his father go to smoke the cigars that they supposedly purchased.
Blair then wishes that her mother and Anne can also leave the room. The only thing that she can think of at the moment is the un-easiness she feels.
"I just need to go to the bathroom. I'll be right back," Blair says. The ladies continue talking as Blair gets up. She walks across the hall to the window on the other end, needing a fresh breath of air.
Looking down she sees Nate and His father talking on the street. Then out of nowhere Howard strikes his son causing Nate to fall on his back. Police arrive at the small scene she just witnessed, as Nate gets back up and murmurs something to the cops as he walks away. They take Howard away after finding something in his pockets.
Blair rushes down to talk to Nate.
"What are you doing?" she asks, closing the limo door he was trying to open.
"I'm going to Victrola. I promised Chuck it's important to him".
"I saw your father getting arrested. Why didn't you come to me? I would've listened."
"I've tried Blair, but every time I try, somethings got your attention," he says. "A dinner party, you know. A masked ball."
"Yeah, let's talk about that masked ball," She urges. "Let's talk about how while I was waiting for you to find me so we could finally be together, You were confessing your feelings and kissing Serena!" she yelled. "I thought I was doing everything right."
"It's not your fault."
"Do you love me?" she asks with tears in her eyes.
She knows he doesn't need to speak to get an answer. She sees it on his face.
"You should deal with your father. He needs you," she says. "You know what? I don't."
Blair opens the Limousine door and gets in. She couldn't believe that all these years of chasing after Nate, he only had eyes for someone else. That he didn't love her.

The driver opens the door and she sees Chuck waiting.
"Where's Nate?"
"I think we just broke up."
"What?" he asks.
"I don't want to talk about it. I just want to escape. This is what this place is for, right?" she says as she walks in. As she walks in she sees dancers up on stage dancing to the music playing on the speakers around. It's certainly a place to escape. Chuck takes them to the front seat right in front of the stage.
"Champagne?" he offers, holding Dom.
She nods and he pours her one in a glass. Blair takes it and leans back into the couch. She looks up at the dancers. "How do they look so free and happy?" she thinks to herself. Then she looks to her right seeing Chuck spill a little bit of wine on his sleeve. She starts to giggle. Chuck looks up as if he's never seen her before, and smiles. She's left breathless.
