Chapter Text
Graduation was rapidly approaching at McKinley High, Kurt was devastated after getting a rejection letter from Nyada.
He nailed his audition, Carmen had respected his bold song choice. Or so he had thought...Rachel had completely choked and still got in, while him and Finn had just stood in the choir room in stunned silence. What were they supposed to do now?
He was happy for Rachel, they're friends of course. But he was tired of being overcast by her shadow, as well as Blaine's, if he was being completely honest with himself.
Him and Blaine had argued an awful lot lately and it was weighing heavily on him. He was tired of pretending like it didn't hurt.
Blaine had changed, they both had, Kurt could feel himself starting to pull away in an opposite direction. Blaine would get so angry sometimes, it scared him.
Kurt closed his locker with a sigh and hurried down the hall to his last class of the day.
Finding a seat next to Blaine, he pulled what he needed for class out of his bag.
Blaine noticed the downcast look on his face and slightly raised one of his dark, triangle shaped eyebrows, "what's up?" he asked.
Kurt didn't say anything, just laid his head on the desk with another sigh. Blaine turned back to his notebook.
Kurt was pretty quiet during class; not saying much to Blaine, who glanced over at Kurt a few times during class.
When class ended, Kurt and Blaine gathered their things and made their way out of the classroom. Blaine walked with Kurt out to the parking lot, his hand resting on Kurt's lower back.
”How about popcorn and a movie later?" Blaine asked, as they neared Kurt's navigator. "Not tonight, I've got homework" Kurt lied. Blaine wasn't buying it though, "Kurt, graduation is on Tuesday, how much homework could you possibly have?".
"Blaine, please stop, I'm just tired" Kurt said, his voice cracking slightly "I'll see you tomorrow,ok?", he said as he mustered a half smile. "See you tomorrow" Blaine said, shouldering his bag and getting in his car.
Kurt made it about halfway home when he couldn't hold back the tears that were coming, as everything hit him.
He pulled over and laid his head on the steering wheel, sobs racking his body. He had to get to New York somehow, he just had to.
He could re-audition for Nyada next year, but he didn't want to wait that long. He started crying even more. It wasn't fair, he put everything into that audition, only for his hopes to go down the drain.
He pulled back onto the road, wiping his tear stained eyes on his sleeve. Usually he would use a tissue, but he didn't even care.
He pulled into the driveway; his Dad sitting in the living room when he walked in the house, with red eyes from crying "great" Kurt muttered to himself.
Burt turned to look up at him, "You okay kiddo? Did something happen with Blaine?" he asked. "No, I'm ok, just tired Dad." Kurt replied.
He was about to go downstairs to his bedroom when Carole called from the kitchen, "Kurt sweetheart! Dinner is almost ready, will Blaine be joining us? Finn is with Rachel". "No, just me" Kurt replied.
"Okay sweetheart, I'll let you know when dinner is ready" Carole said. Kurt went to his bedroom, he honestly just wanted to be alone right now.
He climbed into bed and snuggled under the covers. Not too soon after, Carole called down the stairs to tell him dinner is ready.
