I stroke the door key, the last obstacle that interferes with me and my target.
As I rubbed the dust away I noticed the words scribbled across it; “Crescent.” My eyes widened, my breath got heavier, that was my wife's maiden-name. My dead wife's Maiden-name. Then I glanced at the sword by my side, the last gift she gave me before she was taken from me.
I looked back down at the keyhole to notice it wasn't a keyhole, it was a slot. My eyes flickered between the sword and slot. Memories of my wife's words flow through the air as if she was beside me right now. “The Crescent family has made swords for centuries, it's said that they have sorcerer's blood flowing through us” She then giggled lightly “But that's just a myth, right love?” I opened my eyes and lifted the steel sword and plunged it into the slot. Turning it, listening to the old gears turn. I could feel my heart fall heavy as the door slowly opened.
I smirked and went to pull the sword out only for the door to slowly close. So I let it go keeping it slotted in. I leaned down to be eye level to the handle and pressed a kiss atop it “I had hoped to have you with me to ruin the man who ruined us”
I grabbed a small dagger to use as my main weapon, along with checking my other equipment before heading to combat; Two small hand guns, another dagger, medical kit and one grenade.
Glancing back at my wife's crafts that were strung together with love and war and continued my way through the corridor.
A grainy chuckle. His voice.
I ran towards him dagger in hand ready to attack, but he blocks with a sword of his own. “Do you really think you could kill me so easily?” He mocks “I'm not like your beloved”
My hands gripped the dagger tight as I felt rage take over “You keep her out your filthy mouth”
We swung back and forth until his better sword had sliced my dagger in two, and he had me on the floor, his sword against my neck. My breath coming out in small gasps as I try calming my anxieties and look for an escape.
The man, who seemed cocky by nature leaned towards me. Instantly I clutch his shirt and yank him closer and hold my gun to his head.
“Go on pull the trigger” and I did yet... “What how?”
Nothing happened the man still stands before me. “Fool” he mutters.
“I am no fool” I growl.
I pulled out the grenade and watched the fear flicker in the man's eyes “Are you crazy! What are you doing?”
“You'll share the fate my wife did”
I pull the safety pin and let the bomb go off as everything around me crumbles away and turns to darkness. My mind repeating;
“Emily, we will be united in each other's arms once again my love”
With my vengeance complete. I am at peace.
