Chapter Text
Tim always loved snow. Back when he used to reside inside lonely and depressing Drake Mansion, he was always satisfied and mesmerized by the way the snow falls and it also often became his focus in photography… aside from Robin of course but *ahem*.
He still loves it, don’t get him wrong, but encountering snow themed villains will make you change your mind, cue Victor Fries. He would also still love it if he doesn’t get sick so quick, courtesy to the Council of Spiders for taking his spleen.
Today was snowing and they were advised to stay inside, Bruce forbid them from patrolling for a few days until the snow storm dies down, he also claimed that the villains are less likely to come out at times like this because none of them has the interest of turning into a fucking popsicle.
Bruce also prevented any of them from going outside the manor’s ground. So here he finds himself clutching at his camera, intently focusing on the window before him, trying to get the best angle to capture the snow falling down.
He was about to click the button when he hears his door creek open, “Timbo?” He hears his boyfriend’s deep voice call him. He turns and the man offers him a smile, “What ‘cha doin’ there?” Jason now enters and gives him a kiss before snaking his hands around Tim’s waist.
“Just snapping some photos of the snow.” Tim leans against Jason’s warmth.
Jason hums before proceeding, “Not to be offensive or anything but… why are you photographing the snow? And why are you underdressed, you might fuckin’ get hypothermia c’mere.” Jason pulls him to the bed and envelops him with blankets, spooning him from behind.
“I know, I’m sorry. To your question though, back when I was a kid, I used to be all alone remember? Weather here in Gotham isn’t ideal for much because it either rains or it’s too freaking hot, so I found snow very interesting and I don’t know, cool?” Tim chuckles along with Jason, “Pun unintended.” He remarks.
“I always got out and took the photos in the snow, but… since I lost my uh…” God, why is it so embarrassing to admit that I’m spleenless. And Jason’s my fuckin’ boyfriend goddamnit. “Spleen. I get cold and sick too easily so taking photos outside at this condition is most likely unideal.” Tim snuggles further into Jason who felt like he was a fucking furnace.
“Worry not, spleenless wonder. I think I can help you with your problem.” He turns Tim so he was facing him, and boy does he want to kiss that stupid smirk adorning Jason’s face.
Then it clicks, “What problem exactly?” Tim’s baffled face is enough to motivate Jason.
He stands up and leads Tim to his closet, taking in 3 hoodies and 3 sweatpants and hands them to Tim. “What is this?”
“It’s so you don’t get too cold dummy.” Jason answers nonchalantly. Tim still doesn’t get it and instead raises a brow.
Jason groans, “For the smartest Robin they claim you to be, you could be really dumb at times.” Jason boops his nose, making Tim scrunch up his face. He’s so goddamn adorable, I can’t wait to heh… warm him up later. Jason takes away the dirty thoughts and focuses on helping Tim. “Fear not, I still love you. We’re going outside, but we won’t be exposed to the snow storm. We’ll cross the lawn to the shed behind the manor, it overlooks the entire manor and I reckon you’ll get good shots outta there.”
Tim’s eyes widen and a smile forms to his lips, like Jason told him that Christmas lasts for the whole year. Tim pushes up to his toes and gives Jason’s chin a kiss. “Thank you so much Jaybird!”
“You have plenty of time to thank me later.” Jason leers and winks at Tim.
Tim’s smile turns into a manic grin, “Oh, so that’s how it is… Don’t worry, I’ll help you warm up later.”
Jason only hopes that they weren’t at the manor, for all they could know, cameras might be riddled— not might. The manor’s rooms were definitely riddled with cameras. Whatever, Brucie and Barbie could just fuck off or enjoy the show. Jason smugly thinks.
Jason and Tim passes around the living room before heading at the hidden exit at the south wing of the manor. Tim was vibrating with excitement, clutching his camera and giggling adorably, at least to Jason.
Damian eyes the couple as they pass by, “Where are those two imbeciles going?” He asks Dick who was reading something too.”
Dick shrugs. “I don’t know, but I think they’re heading outside judging by the thickness of Tim’s clothing.”
“Doesn’t Drake get sick fast due to his lacking of spleen?” Damian just asks to make sure, not because he cares and is worried for Drake, he just wants to know.
Dick takes his attention away from the book he was reading and nods, “Yes, that’s pro’lly why Jay equipped him with that much winter gear.” Dick tears away his eyes but smiles fondly, then looks back at Damian, “Why Dami, do you care about Timmy?” He teases.
The teen’s face reddens fast, “N-No I don’t! It’s beyond my cares if those two get into danger, plus, it’s just snow, what could go wrong?!” He defends himself.
Dick shakes his head, smiles and returns to reading.
Tim stares at the thick layer of snow, “Uhh… so how do we do this exactly?”
Jason shrugs, “I don’t know, you’re the planner baby, think of something.” He demands.
Tim rolls his eyes, “How about you step first, and I’ll follow through your path ‘til the shed.”
“Good idea actually.” Jason praises, making Tim smirk.
Jason takes a step and “Holy shit, this snow is deep!” He exclaims.
“It’s only your foot, what more will I suffer with that?”
Jason rubs his chin, “I can carry you?” He suggests and looks at Tim.
“No, I want to do stuff on my own too y’know. Damian is practically gagging at us when we do PDA, so I want to do this.” He smiles back at Jason.
“Deep, but alright, just tell me if something goes wrong.”
Tim nods and Jason takes a step forward.
It doesn’t take too long for them to make it to the small shed and boy was it worth it. The view was amazing, the angle and the way Tim pictures the snow falling gently as it overlooks the manor’s windows and roof covered in piles of snow. “This is amazing!”
“That’s one way of putting it.” Jason remarks, agreeing.
Tim takes a lot of good shots, some of which were even Jason posing for the camera, a blur shot of the manor, a snowflake Jason caught on his mitten, some weird ass lookin’ ice crystal that fell down which Tim is sure that was just snow that didn’t shatter, they even took a couple selfies and Tim’s heart feels so full.
Because now, the snow is not his only muse, there was Jason now. Just like before, when he used to be the Robin Tim took pictures of.
Tim leans into his boyfriend’s warmth as they review the photos, “Thanks for this Jason.”
Jason tightens his grip around him, “No problem babybird.” He kisses the crown of Tim’s head, the raven locks littered with snowflakes.
“As romantic as this is, Timbo we need to get ya inside, I’m kinda freezing my balls here and I’d rather not, when you help me warm up later.” Jason waggles his eyebrows.
“You’re such a dork.” Tim voices fondly.
Jason fake pouts, “Yeah but you love me anyway.”
“Damn right!” Tim proudly says, before he walks out first.
As they were walking along the snow, Tim stepped on something solid and sharp, it felt like it pierced something on the sole of his left foot but it doesn’t really feel like it hurts, just… cold and numb. It was a bad idea leading. He thinks to himself.
“’Ya alright there Timmers?” Jason’s worried voice breaks his trance.
Tim nods vigorously, “Yes, I think I just stepped on something but it doesn’t hurt. Let’s check it inside, just avoid the last step I took.”
“Got it.”
Once inside, Tim forgets the check the wound and instead runs towards the aroma of Alfred’s hot chocolate.
“Ah, Master Tim, Master Jason. I see you guys smelled the hot chocolate, this batch I’m heating up is for the both of you as I saw you two taking shots and having fun in the snow.”
Alfred is an angel. Tim thinks to himself. “Thanks Alf!” He speaks before grabbing the mug of steaming hot cocoa and immediately taking a drink.
“Thanks Alfie!” Jason voices out before taking the other mug Alfred was handing.
“It’s no trouble at all. Now, Master Timothy, would you mind sharing me some of the photos, I want to print some and put it in the photo book I was constructing.”
Tim looks up from drinking and gives the butler a nod before standing up and showing him the camera. Alfred ended up asking for all the photos to be printed.
After shedding their winter clothes, they head for the living room and Tim feels the exceptional coldness in his left foot.
“How was the photo shoot?” Dick asks, looking at Tim and gesturing for him to come over.
“It went well.” Tim remarks before sitting beside Dick, who immediately enveloped Tim in a limb breaking hug. Tim doesn’t mind, he’s so used to this.
Tim now voices out his discomfort. “Dick, I swear this isn’t about you, but something feels uncomfortable in my left foot.”
Dick disentangles, “What happened?” Worry envelops his voice.
“It just feels… I don’t know, cold?” Tim doesn’t know how to describe it.
“Fool, you came outside, from extreme amounts of temperature, so of course it’s normal that it’s cold.”
“I am well aware of that, Gremlin. But shouldn’t be my whole-body cold, not only my leg? Specifically, my left?”
Bruce hums, “That is strange. Do you feel anything else, out of the ordinary?”
Jason intervenes, “Didn’t you tell me you stepped on something?”
“Oh, right. It felt like I stepped on something like glass but it felt really cold, then my foot went numb, but after a bit it went off, and now it’s back.”
“What do you think you may have stepped on?” Bruce asks.
Alfred enters, “I believe whilst we were scrolling through the photos, I saw a faint coloring of blue, like a crystal of sorts, or it could be just ice, but it won’t hurt to check.”
“Can you be the best boyfriend ever and take it from my room?” Tim pleads.
Jason rolls his eyes, but nods. “Top most shelf, middle camera.”
Tim hums, confirming where to look. He reaches for Jason and give him a chaste kiss before sending him off.
“You guys are so lovey-dovey it’s gross.” Steph fake gags and then follows up with laughter.
Tim smirks at her, “Deal with it. You and Cass do it too, dummy!” Tim stuck his tongue out.
Stephanie rolls her eyes and just before she retorts, Jason comes in, bearing the camera.
“Thanks!” Tim scrolls through the photos and finds what he’s looking for.
Bruce inspects the photo, “Well, the color of it seems too unlikely to come from the sky, plus, a hailstorm comes in large quantities, not just one by one. The uh- ice is opaque, in contrast to it’s usual transparency.”
Tim feels the coldness move from his foot, to both of his hands. “Now it’s at both of my hands.” He touches Dick’s skin just to prove.
Dick flinches and flees his hand like he was burned, “That’s cold Tim! It felt like literal Ice!” He exclaims.
“To the Cave.” Bruce’s stern voice cuts their antics and Tim obliges, the others following him with Jason clutching his shoulders.
“Do you feel anything strange?” Bruce asks.
“Nothing, it otherwise feels normal, just a bit cold, but I could still move them so it’s not numb.” Tim describes.
“Alright, now let me take a look at the sole of your foot.”
Tim nods and offers it to Bruce. After a few seconds, Bruce confirms. “I dusted the ice off, but nothing bleeds and there are no cuts present, the ice didn’t melt, it sat there like stone but it did feel cold when I touched them.”
Bruce takes the small tongs and takes the samples to the small lab in the cave.
Tim still feels alright, but the slight coldness aren’t leaving his hands. His hand still feels the same, it’s just a little cold, but Dick said it felt like he was touching ice when it made contact with his skin.
Jason was still clutching is shoulder, providing Tim with reassurance.
“I won’t be taking any skin or blood samples since I think this is just something like a side effect, how about we all sleep and see if something is odd tomorrow morning.”
Tim nods and steps down from the cot, Jason takes his hand, “Dick wasn’t kidding, it really feels like ice.”
“How come you’re not flinching?”
Jason chuckles, grip tightening around Tim’s hand, “I was resurrected by the pit remember? Cold doesn’t do much with me since I’m warm all the time, kind of a power I kept from all the pit’s madness and all that.”
“Then why were your balls freezing huh?” Tim raises a brow.
“I was just kiddin’ Timmers.” Jason scoots a little closer, “But the offer is still up baby… I ain’t forcin’ you though something might be wrong, hopefully there’s nothing but I don’t want to make you any less comfortable than you are now.”
Tim hugs closer to Jason’s warmth, thankful for his boyfriend’s patience.
They snuggle together in bed, and fall asleep.
