Chapter Text

First Thing They Experienced/Did When They Reached The Surface

Sans: Before looking at the sun, it was taking in that first breath of fresh air. He still remembers it despite the resets, the very first time he smelt it, the crisp evening air interwoven with faint scent of the forest that surrounded them when they had exited the mountain. Nothing could ever compare to that moment.

Papyrus: He was in such a rush that he didn’t really know where to even begin! But then, he saw the sun, the way it had glowed brightly and the sky that was dyed with calming orange that almost reminded him of his magic. He learnt that, it was in fact, a star and was excited at the prospect that he was able to see a star so up close. It’s a memory that he holds dear to him.

Blue: He ran. He ran as fast as he could up the hill, looking over the various flowers that surrounded the area and the scenery that was laid before him. As much as that blew him away, he had to admit, Blue loved the feeling of the cool wind against his bones, the gentleness of it and the way it had carried all the various scents along was his favorite part of being on the surface.

Stretch: He blinked. Had… Had they really made it? It took him a while but when he heard the sweet melody of the songbirds in the distance as he walked through the forest was more than enough to know that this was really happening. He closed his sockets, feeling his shoulders sagged with relief as he allowed himself to listen in on the enchanting tune that signified a new beginning to him.

Red: The rain that soaked his bones was what he first felt. It wasn’t like anything down in the underground, no. This wasn’t artificial, nor was it from magic.. This was natural. The warmth of the droplets that seeped into his bones and clothes was grounding to him and he had closed his sockets, his own tears getting mixed in with the rain before he had continued to make his way through a new chapter in his life.

Edge: He looked around, noticing some of the wildlife animals that had been wandering about. He didn’t think much of it until he came across a little bunny that hopped in front of him. He knew if animals that didn’t speak, but to see one right before his eyelights was surprising. The human was beside him, urging him to lean down and hold his hands out. When the bunny had hopped into his hands, he had felt a part of him come back, one he thought was forever lost.

Black: The warmth of the sunlight against his bones. Being in Snowdin and well, basically the entirety of the underground, Black has never really experienced much warmth that was soothing and comfortable (Hotland was anything but that-) but when he stepped out of the underground, the sun was there to greet him, bathing him in warmth for the first time in his life. It’s why he looks forward to the sun rising ever since then.

Rus: He had heard of the sea, waves that move on it’s own with a steady rhythm. But nothing compared to when he actually saw it with his own eyelights. It was almost nighttime when he had finally reached the beach, the sea was reflecting the shades of the sky. He had never left his spot for a bit, just sitting there and taking in the smell of the ocean and hearing the waves crash against each other.

Wine: Despite being excited about finally leaving the underground, Wine had taken the time to reflect on his past instead of taking in what was around his first. There were feelings that he had never experienced, and the realization that they were finally out had was slowly sinking in. It was just so hard for him to believe it, that he only fully realizes it a week later when he wakes up from the birds singing a tender tune along with the early sunlight.

Coffee: He was scared. Being thrusted into a world of unknown possibilities after leaving the place that he had spent a majority of his life in. He had every right to feel that way, but as he walked through the forest with his brother, he spotted a fawn, stumbling on it’s frail legs. He had gotten worried for a bit, only for the fawn to look at him and walk up to him, nudging it’s head against his hand. He figured that it may not be so bad, after all. He was still scared shitless tho, just lowkey

For both Thistle and Chestnut, they had pinched themselves to make sure that it wasn’t all some twisted dream. But once they had made sure that they were still outside, that they could smell the fresh air that surrounded them, the faint noise of the birds, and the breeze brushing against trees. It was full of life yet it held some tranquility to it. That maybe they can finally have that peace, too.
