Work Text:

The sea.
The cold.
The rocking.
It was quiet and calming.
The warm colours of the setting sun bounced off the ocean surface. The net hit the small boat’s deck with a wet slap before returning to port.

“It’s about time you got back,” Valkyrie called from the dock as the small blue boat came alongside. “You know, I’m starting to think you prefer this thing over us, Vilde.”
Vilde jumped from the boat, her haul easily carried before being emptied into the barrels of ice.
“I prefer the time alone. I like the quiet. And I like to focus on my work, it helps us.” Vilde replied, sealing the 6 full barrels.

“Wouldn’t you be able to help us more if you use your magic?”
“I keep telling you, your highness, I haven’t been able to use my magic since we came to Midgard. Not for lack of trying.”
“Maybe the reason you can no longer use your magical abilities is because you have subconsciously linked your magic to something important to you on Asgard and when your connection to that thing was broken you lost access to your magical abilities.”

Valkyrie and Vilde could only stare at Korg and his sudden appearance and wisdom.
“Noob master again?” Valkyrie asked as the pair followed behind Vilde as she carried the 6 full fish barrels into the storage freezer.
“Alright, I’ll sort him out in just a minute. I just need to finish talking to Vilde about this.”
“Okay, thanks Valkyrie.”
“For a man made of rocks he sure has a really soft shell, the opposite of you my friend.” Vilde ignored the comment, securing the freezer lock before disappearing into a green storage shed before returning with cans of blue and gold paint and heading straight back to her boat.

“Vilde this is serious.”
“What do you want from me Val?” Vilde asked as she painted over the gold lettering ready to redo it. “There’s so much work that needs to be done. And no offense to your highness but this isn’t helping.”
“This is work?” Valkyrie asked, pointing at the outline of the word ‘Sorcerer’ being outlined in glorious gold.
“Boats need maintenance, especially old ones.”
“But you’re not maintaining yourself. You’re going to work yourself to death. Do you even sleep?”
“Yes! Of Course I sleep.”
“You sleep on the boat… don’t you?”

The younger Asgardian ignored the question, continuing her work with growing irritation.
“Vilde you know he wouldn’t want you to…”
“”Well he’s not here! He’s gone! He left me… again! All because he decided to be a hero for once in his life while I was one of the lucky ones. So this is how I choose to play the hand fate dealt me, like you did.”
“I didn’t want it to come to this.”

Without a moment's hesitation, Valkyrie's foot connected with Vilde’s chest in a spartan kick. The unprepared girl was sent flying off the dock towards the water before smacking into a hardwood wall with a loud crack.

“Alvilde Harulf. We’ve been expecting you.”
